Darn right, Morkula. I responded to the Zelda Retrospective in my LJ. Give me a sec and I'll copy and paste it. They did a lot wrong.
And...attention Wiiless Canadian gamers. Restocks this Friday. But it's half of what there was on Friday. And after that? Well, best of luck to you. And to me. I hope I get one.
EDIT: The following is a Zelda Scribe attacking a Timeline theory. You have been warned.
First of all, they kind of forgot a game. XD Where is Four Swords? Aonuma said that game was first (prior to The Minish Cap being released). That is like the only official placement we have and they forgot it. XD
Second. This is a split timeline. I hate split timelines. I'm sticking with a single timeline; always have, always will.
Link's Awakening's placement is way off. Several Japanese sources have confirmed that LA the sequel to A Link to the Past (this was before the Oracle Series; which I feel goes in-between the two). While one of Link's Nightmares (or the Wind Fish's Nightmares; I'm still not sure) is Ganon (who he would've fought during OoT), the other Nightmares include several ALttP villains including Agahnim. No way whatsoever could Link have had a Nightmare about Agahnim if Agahnim didn't even exist yet. @@
You can't return to Hyrule from Termina via an ocean. Termina is a parallel universe. An alternate dimension. To return to Hyrule you have to go back through the Lost Woods' portal, which is why Link is back in the Lost Woods at the end of MM.
The Sleeping Zelda Legend. This even gives me problems. Because you have so many princesses named Zelda by the time you can actually place this thing and have it make sense. Essentially, in TWW there is no Zelda. There is Tetra. Tetra was not born a princess. She was not born as Zelda. Her mother was pirate. She was born a pirate. Her name is Tetra. She is simply of the royal bloodline, but a pirate, not a princess in hiding. She is the heir to the thrown, but a pirate. Even after the events of TWW, she is still Tetra, not Zelda. If every female heir to the thrown was to be named Zelda, and she was named Tetra, then there's a problem here. More maybe TWW is just screwy since it having several Zelda being coincidentally named Zelda prior to the TWW makes no sense either. :p
But...to support what I was saying, here's something they missed. Part of the sleeping legend involves the Triforce of Courage being split. So...it is split prior to OoT, and yet complete again during OoT? That doesn't work.
Aonuma's comment may be wrong. At least I think it is, anyway. If you translate the Hylian text that is featured during the intro to TWW you can see that either he was mistaken, he was mistranslated, or something. But, the intro pretty much disproves his comment.
And...GameTrailers? Play a linked version of the Oracle Series, not just separately. It's the same Link. It's one big journey. How on earth could the same Link end up in two timelines at once?
