I thought I would make this team for fun because I've seen a lot of greninjas and their animations are amazing! :D

How should I build my shiftry?

I'm making a ninja team (I posted it on the battle center but it has yet to be approved, but I really need a quick answer to this particular question) and I want to put Shiftry in it.

However its good moves like sucker punch, seed bomb, etc. are all from Gen V move tutors so I can't get them (I can't get it from the pokemon bank either because I don't have pokemon black or white)

So should I go with a special build or stick with a physical build?

    Thanks!

(Sorry mods for posting it on here but I really need a quick answer for this and no one has approved my topic at the battle center yet)

You are right you do lack many physical moves, but there are still egg moves to help you:
here is how to run succesfully a tanky shiftry:
    250+hp evs
    75+attack evs
    50+sp.def evs
    100+ def evs
    Item: leftovers
    Leech seed
    Bullet seed
    Swagger(or amnesia)
    Foul play

    Alternately:
    FULL STALL (special attacker)
    item:leftovers
    250+hpevs
    100+defense
    100+sp.def
    50+special attack
    moves:
    Substitute
    Leech seed
    Energy ball(or l. tornado)
    Dark Pulse

I am assuming you dont want another speedy sweeper because greninja and weavile are quite your best choiche

Thanks Caius! How did you know I was going to use greninja and weavile? XD

Also, do which of the two do you recommend? :O

    Thanks again!

Protean greninja, preferably sp. attacker (because you will lack one^^)
I d say teach him dark pulse, extra sensory, scald and double team, and equip him with a king's rock

Thanks! I looked around and found out that there aren't many ninja themed pokemon so I'm going to grab weavile as well :D

Hmmm I just realized Shiftry can go boom! with an explosion! Should I put that on him? XD It's like a smoke bomb! LOL! except deadlier

assuming he is followed by a strong revenge killer, explosion is quite viable, but not recommended
reason: with my build you wont have much special attack, and explosion damage doesnt scale up with your HP.
If you really want to make a glass cannon shiftry, with explosion, you should have at least 150-200 points in special attack, thus sacrificing durability (not to mention that even with 250 evs in speed many sweepers will outspeed you...)
So honestly, leave explosion to pokemon that are more speedy or have higher base defenses or speed ;)

Okay! Thanks! Could you give me some advice on the tanky shiftry build? I just counted the number of weaknesses it has and it's 7! D: Gosh darnit!

I was thinking, if I use sunny day and have solar beam on it, and since it has chlorophyll, would that work out well?

Thanks in advance again Caius xD

Shiftry is too frail for any kind of support. It's better off as a Chlorophyll abuser. Note that Sucker Punch and Low Kick are Poke Bank moves (you must teach Nuzleaf/Shiftry Sucker Punch in Gen IV and Seed Bomb/Low Kick/Giga Drain in Gen IV/V):
    -Leaf Storm
    -Sucker Punch
    -Dark Pulse
    -Low Kick
    Nature: Rash
    EVs: 4 Atk/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb
    Ability: Chlorophyll

    or
    -Swords Dance
    -Seed Bomb
    -Sucker Punch
    -Low Kick/Rock Slide
    Nature: Adamant/Jolly
    EVs: 252 Atk/4 SDef/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb
    Ability: Chlorophyll

    or
    -Nasty Plot
    -Giga Drain/Energy Ball
    -Dark Pulse
    -Focus Blast/Hidden Power (Ground/Rock/Fire)
    Nature: Timid/Modest
    EVs: 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb
    Ability: Chlorophyll

    or
    -Growth/Nasty Plot
    -Giga Drain/Energy Ball
    -Dark Pulse
    -Low Kick/Focus Blast
    Nature: Naive/Timid
    EVs: 76 Atk/180 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb
    Ability: Chlorophyll

    I don't have Black or White so I probably can't get it through the pokemon bank ;-;

PandaShogun, your thread in battle center was approved so I merged the two threads here. Hope it helps.

    Thank you very much!!! :DDDD

To add, to the team, Greninja shouldn't bother with Water Shuriken at all because it's fast enough not to rely on priority and the move is weak and unreliable. Scald only sees use on defensive Pokemon, which Greninja isn't. Make do with Surf or Hydro Pump as Greninja's Water STAB.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'll replace scald with surf!

My friend isn't at all competitive, at least I don't think he is. He just tries to beat me just as if I were an NPC :P

Well id say remove shiftry at all... as the op said he has no availability for black or white so no tutor moves from old gens.... plus its an all ninja team so there is no real setup for clorophyll

Shiftry is still viable as a mixed attacker, so don't count it out. Like what PlatinumDude said, Shiftry is best used as an all out attacker. I don't have much to say because PandaShogun and I have been exchanging PM's about Shiftry, so that's why I'm not posting sets.

Yeah! I am going with Slayr's build on Shiftry :D
You guys have been such a great help!

I just thought of something else-- should I replace Shedinja with an imposter Ditto (kinda ninja-ish don't-cha-think?) or should I keep Shedinja?

    Thanks guys once again~~~

Hey guys, sorry for the bump but I'm running into some troubles. I just bred a Sneasel with perfect attack, speed, and HP IVs, with a Jolly nature and EV trained it for ATK and SPEED, but I just took it to terminus cave to try and obtain brick break and it can't OHKO anything D: am I doing something wrong? Or am I just not using Weavile correctly?

    Thanks!

One thing I learned this generation is that hyper-offensive isn't really going to cut it anymore. Defense is huge this gen, so you're not going to get a lot of OHKO's. If you're looking to sweep, it's not going to happen with Weavile. The only thing that's going to sweep this generation is set-up sweepers. You're going to be able to pluck off a couple pokemon, but not a lot.
