4th Gen Nintendo DS Improvments

i like the look of the dsi XL but for pokemon games the ds and ds light are more recommended, and yea you can vs people online
theres usealy a few on, like i never have to w8 long to get 1 mach anyway

Like is it always the same people? Or like other people with other sets of pokemon plays, because I want to keep myself busy by playing against them and the DSI seems like a good deal IMO, because I like browsing the internet and the DSi lets you do that. So I may get that.

You should have no trouble finding anyone online to play, now that new games are coming out. And especially since people from all over the world play Pokemon. And what I do is I use a DSi to play the game, and the original DS to trade or use PalPark.

I don't think this belongs in Pokemon D/P/Pt. I think this belongs in Pokemon General, or technology. I'll ask Zet about this...

Okay, forget it~

Even though you can browse the internet with the DSi. It's still really really slow, and it's not really worth it. I mean stuff on the DSi is fun for a little bit, but it's not really that great after a while. Just get a DS lite, because if you get a DSi, then you won't be able to transfer your Pokemon from emerald over, which means you will have to start fresh again.

I played emerald, I don't have it lol, and I want to start fresh.
And what do you mean by slow? I hear its faster.

I mean sites take a while to load. I mean it's okay if you want to do stuff like check email or something. But still, there's not much use for it. But if you don't own emerald, sure, get the DSi. Still, the ds lite costs alot less. But, it's up to you.

Oh ok, thanks. :) [][][][][][][][]

There's actually a standalone internet browser available for DS/DS Lite too. However, the DSi browser has the advantage of supporting Flash (I think), which the original DS browser doesn't.

Alright Ihtesam, I've been where you've been, so hear me out..

1. You need to have WiFi set up at your house, if you don't, see Nintendowifi.com, yes it does involve you paying for some things.

2. Yes, a lot of people play online on WiFi. It's not a random generated battle scenario though. You need their friend code, and they need yours in order to battle. So to battle online it usually requires a little bit of arrangement.

3. Yes a new DS IS coming out, but as far as I know hasn't even been released in Japan yet. When it comes to America/Other places they are going to cost about the price a DS costs when it first came out. But this will probably cause a price drop in the DS systems out now.

Pokebeach.com says:
The Nintendo Summit was held in San Francisco today, and while the rumored DS successor was not addressed, Nintendo did announce the North American release date for the DSi XL. It will be released in the United States on March 28th for a price tag of $189.99.
The fourth DS incarnation features a screen that is 93% larger than the current DSi as well as a jumbo stylus. On its launch date, the DSi XL will be available in either a burgundy or bronze color and will come pre-installed with two DSiWare Brain Age games, Photo Clock, Flipnote Studio, and the DSi Browser. The system was originally released in Japan on November 21st and was called the Nintendo DSi LL.

Good luck with your Generation IV endeavors, Ihtesam! I'm in a similar spot like you; I still have a Game Boy Advance SP coupled with Pokemon Emerald and FireRed Versions (playtime is limited to school seasonal breaks, though...), and I'm borrowing Sapphire Version from a friend (I lost 2 Pokemon Sapphires earlier though... :(). I'm still waiting for a DS, but from what I've seen, DPPt are major improvements from the RSE-FR/LG era.

And HG/SS are gearing up to be, IMO, the most awesome remakes ever (of any game, period). A Nintendo DS Lite, Pokemon Platinum Version and/or either HeartGold or SoulSilver Versions are what I'd recommend, but it's totally your choice.

I'm just worried about whether I can get a DS Lite, Platinum, and HeartGold before Generation V arrives in full force... I really do not want to be stuck with a DSi, because Emerald and FireRed playtime will be for naught. :(

On a side-note, does anyone know how long Wal-Mart, Target, GameStop, and/or GameCrazy will be selling DS Lites, Platinum, and HeartGold? I'm worried about whether I'll be able to fully immerse in Gen IV in time, and the fact that I'm missing out on so many events (like the current Night Sky's Edge Jirachi) isn't very good and doesn't bode well for a Trainer like me! (Thanks in advance for help!)

Oh cool, well I don't have the DS yet, I will hopefully get it the 19th, so Ima bump this thread back up when I get it, I sure will check that thread out, and thanks alot :) and what do you mean by brilliant? Will it be wayyy better then Platinum? Then I may just get the Soul Silver or Heart Gold instead, and do many people go online(wifi)?

Get a DS lite since it has a DS cartridge but the DSi does not. I would suggest Platinum and either Heart Gold or Soul Silver. And yes a lot of people play on Wi-Fi just need their friend code or play Wi-Fi Plaza. And then that should be all. It is the best pokemon games and they built them to be much more fun then the GBA ones. So you should have a great time with the new generations.

Wifi Plaza seems interresting and thanks alot people.

The DS Lite CAN NO LONGER access the Internet. However, I suggest purchasing a new one as it will wear out in a year and a half, but it'll still work even without the LR buttons- the only downside.

Other than that, I am 14 and I still love Pokemon.

Hey, well I have a Game Boy Advance SP, and I played Emerald and its awesome! Now for my birthday, in 19 March, I will turn 15 and I wanted to get a DS(mainly for Pokemon) I wanted to know how improved Pokemon got and I still don't know the differences between Diamond,Pearl and Platinum, so please tell me that lol and people are saying that a Nintendo DS 2 is coming out soon, is that true? Because I may get a Nintendo DS now.

How old are you, and which version do you have? 12,Diamond,Platinum
What's the difference between Diamond,Pearl and Platinum? Pokemon,Improvements,Platinum has bigger "storyline"
And will the upcoming pokemon games be good? Are they worth buying? Well if you ever played G/S/C you will NEED these. 9/10 in Nintendo Magazine, never mind them being just epic. (Get these FIRST! Coming out on March 14th)
And do alot of people play Online(WIFI) Because I need competition. Eh-hem you need competition? You cant handle it if you dont have D/P/Pt since every online person gets good moves/level 100 and usually ev trains and gets decent IVs and they can own you. Look in battle section of this forum.
Thats all :P

And DS 2? Thats not what its called I thinks its DS XL (eXtra Large) with around 90% bigger screens (Umm you would need HUGE pockets for that XD) And it is confirmed

Wth? It can so access Wi-Fi. Unless you dont mean Wi-Fi but Internet as in this website then it never could

I personally recomend the DSi because I am playing my version of Pokemon platinum on it forlike the first time in ever. Thd DSi is worth the buy, my only complaint is it is seemingly immposibe to put a screen protector on with out bubbles on it. Also get Platinum first instead of HG or SS because if you played Silver, Gold, or Crystal it will have the same story. Besides most of the features of the game is the same on Platinum.

Umm no. I mean ''the DS2'' theres rumours, its a completely different thing from the DS, but I doubt its coming out anytime soon, the DS is getting so many good games at the moment. And As long as theres people at the wifi plaza, then its ok. But how do people communicate with each other?

Through the microphone on the DS

heres right, you can talk over wifi with the mic. (i have done it before). by pressing X before the battle, you can turn it off.

its kinda awkward, but its a pretty cool feature. its very simple too.
well, most people i battle turn it off.

I have neverused it before I just read it on a site I was on but I would get Platinum first okay.
