No mythical Pokémon in this generation

Maybe I'm just not up to par with how mythical Pokémon are handled. From what I noticed, my history with Pokémon has always been late. In fact, Pokémon Violet is the first game that I bought upon release, but even then, it took sort of a while for my game to arrive in the mail for me after pre-ordering. I believe that I purchased Pokémon Brilliant Diamond close to its release as well, but that was a remake with no new Pokémon in it. I even got Pokémon Sword as a Christmas gift in 2021. Because of that, I'm not really sure if it is normal for a mythical Pokémon to not exist when a game is first released. Is this normal? What do you think of this generation not having mythical Pokémon? Do you think we can expect to see some later?

Gen 8's Mythical Pokemon, Zarude, was added to the game during the first DLC and distributed a couple months after.

    Gen 7:
-Zeraora: first distribution in July 2018 in Japan. USUM released in November 2017.
-Marshadow: first distribution in July 2017. Sun/Moon released in November 2016.
-Magearna: first distribution predates Sun/Moon (July - September 2016) yet is marked as available in Sun/Moon.
Curious, does not seem to have launched earlier than the rest of the world in Japan. Next distribution was December, so a couple weeks after release.

I could go back further, but it doesn't seem to be uncommon for the Mythicals to be released at later dates.

I wouldn't be surprised if they added one during one of the DLC's like they did in Galar.

Mythical Pokemon have almost always never been legitimately obtainable at release, the one exception that I can remember being Victini. The thing is though, they were always in the game's code from the very beginning, and so people knew they existed and could even obtain them (though only through hacking or glitches) before they were officially revealed and released. It wasn't until SwSh (Zarude) that they straight-up did not exist in the game at release at all.

So there currently being no mythicals in S/V is not unprecedented, but still a new thing. Might get one or two after the DLC drops.

Mythicals is a designation I never understood why Game Freak bothered to make anyway, legendaries and mythicals are basically the same thing, there's little if any meaningful difference between the two.

I'm sure they'll add at least one or two, but I really wish they wouldn't. Mythical Pokemon have had some really cool designs over the years,
but I've personally never been a fan of time sensitive Pokemon, or Pokemon only obtainable in a spin-off game like Meltan/Melmetal in GO,
or the original color Magearna only being obtainable in HOME. (and only to those with the mobile version, cause to hell with people that don't have a smarphone like me I guess lol) It's one of the reasons I really like some of the newer games like BD/SS, cause they just give you older Mithics as long as you have a save from the older Switch games. I really hope that becomes a thing for the rest of the currently 'unobtainable' Pokemon in the series.

Well the first one, Mew, was sort of a modern myth, in that even a lot of people in the company that made it didn't know it existed it was programmed in that late! I see Gen 8 being them finally being able to do something they probably wanted to for a while now - add Pokémon in at a later date. Just a shame it came as part of pricey DLC rather than, y'know, shipping a fully functional game.

I liked Meltan and Melmetal as a concept, but given how bad Go is getting nowadays I hope they make a way to get the other Gimmighoul form legitimately in the main console games.
r.e. OC Magearna they absolutely do not consider people such as yourself to exist in their customer base haha. I really like that there is a tangible reward for the not-insignificant achievement of completing the National Pokédex, and in fact hope there is another one stacked on top of it for either Gen 9 or Gen 10 as we pass 1000 Pokémon. But only because I've grown accepting of mythicals. I still hate that I can't actually get 493 in my old Gen IV games.

I would expect that if they do something similar to BDSP's giving you Mew and Jirachi, it would be in Gen 5 remakes if they come (I don't think they will tbh - I'm expecting SV + DLC to be it, then the next generation on a Switch successor). Keldeo, as its already been made available in SwSh, and Meloetta would be cool. Especially given Meloetta has so little of an impact. You just find it in a bar or something I think, so they could easily just make that be available to anyone with a previous game (PLA and SV being the obvious candidates).
But if they're just going to give us Rotom covers or similarly useless items…why bother?

The funniest thing about this? I actually could, really easily in fact. I have most of the true National Dex in US right now, I'm just missing a few Pokemon from Gen 6, (which are also pretty easy for me to get due to owning both X & Y) and most of the Pokemon from Gen 7, as I haven't actually played through them yet.
I have a complete Dex in both Shield and Violet as well (not including the SW/SH DLC mons, yet).
Only problem is, I can't actually obtain the reward! Cause they locked the mystery gift 'feature' to the mobile version of HOME! *Starts to cackle like a madman*
