nowhere to go, nothing to do

Something I hear a lot of people experience, and have experienced myself, is simply lack of interesting things to do.

People often complain about young people being unproductive, spending a lot of time watching TV and playing video games, etc.
My question is, what would you like to see more of in your area? Somewhere to go that is really genuinely interesting to you. Maybe it's something we already know, but you don't have near to you, like a theme park or swimming pool; or maybe it's something new and unheard of. Whatever it is, please share it!

Hockey rinks. They are pretty much non-existent in Missouri. I wouldn't even mind synthetic ice!

Other than that there's plenty to do, offroad courses, fishing spots, there's like 3 parks all within an hour drive of where I am, bowling alleys, ect.

Barely anything to do here. But you can go bowling or to the beach or pool, the supermall?

There is nothing here to do unless you have lots of money.
I would like more things to do that are cheaper like an stake park.

I somewhat agree. After all, I'm not in college and I don't have a job. Sometimes it can be hard to find things to do.

Luckily, we do have a swimming pool, and I go there all the time. We also have nice beaches. I personally think we should have more museums in my area, since I find those interesting. I'm also fortunate to have friends who like the outdoors.

A 'hang-out' area for young people.

By this I don't mean some rubbish youth centre. Those suck.

No, I just mean a nice public place that is tranquil where young people can go to do one or two activities and chill out. In a way, a public garden with a small house-area. Young people can do martial arts or learn to cook. Essentially just gain a skill.

I wouldn't want any music stuff to be going on though, if I'm honest. We had something like that nearby my home once - no one wanted to go anywhere near the youth area because of the amateur musicians making a racket.

I mean, I live in Jacksonville. We have a beach, pools, skate park, any kind of sport you could desire area, anything really all within 10 minutes of my house. There's a lot of things that can keep you busy and I tend to do a lot of those things through out the days. For example, I'm going to the beach in like an hour.

Here, too. I live in a 'tourist trap' on the beach. It's really lovely. Right-turn-only season is coming up. =p

I'm not sure I really understand the question, though. If this pertains to people being unproductive, how would adding a park change that? Then you're just entertaining yourself elsewhere -- doesn't seem like much of a step up from TV, just a little more activity. And sunblock.

So I'm gonna have to agree with Bruce here. Give the kids somewhere to learn a valuable skill in a way they'd enjoy it.

Personally I think local councils do not want to invest in infrastructure for young people because us gathering looks like it could cause trouble, or is a waste of money for them.

I can understand this, but it also confuses me. Getting kids off the streets when they're younger and giving them something to do, finding something they're good at.. It gives a sense of pride and accomplishment. Confidence, even.
In turn, it generally keeps them off the streets when they're older. You'd think lowering the crime rates would be worth the investment.

The city I live in isn't a particularly small one, nor is it a large metropolis like the nearby Toronto is so if worse comes to worse, I can just venture out there XD The only activities I actually do around here is playing badminton with friends, and the occasional dinners with my sister; malls have become obsolete in my life besides the video game store. There's nothing of special mention though. Like I said, thankfully Toronto is close enough a drive, and it has plenty of things to do~

I live in a city where we're #1 for teen pregnancies and #1 for drug use among teens because there is simply nothing to do. If you're not an elderly citizen or retiree, you're typically on welfare and a single, young mother if you live where I'm from lol It's really sad :(

I'd like better and cheaper transport to Toronto, ON (or even Barrie, ON) so that kids will actually have something to do. We're the gateway to cottage country and have few amenities. The biggest Springtime "fun" we get is the Perch Festival, and face it, the typical teenager would not want to spend all afternoon fishing.

So better transportation, better stores (our downtown is 50% bankrupt stores)... The cottage feel is great, but we need to expand on it somehow to keep people interested in moving here and developing in our economy. There are so many municipal laws that keep companies and businesses away from our downtown core that it's no wonder people are forced to shop at Walmart.

Well where I live there are a lot of things to do, but because I'm so lazy I can't be bothered to do anything at all. I could be playing football, going cinema etc. but instead half the time I just sit on my arse at home and do nothing. sigh

To be honest, I wished we had an arcade ;;... Our place or rather our area has a park where we all hang out and stuff and mostly their are people selling food and clothes(and illegal dvd's ;3).. But yeah I don't usually go out because its summer here its like totally hot...

Having an arcade would be awesome!! Id love to hang out there and compete with others.
I would also like to see more soccer/basketball fields, those are great to have matches during the summer months

I would also LOVE a park. There hardly are any parks around my area and a big grassy and/or hilly area filled with lots of shady trees with green sweeping foliage and expansive walk paths with a lake or two would be extremely welcomed. It would be a great place to just come and relax or go for walks or jogs or to hang out with friends and family for picnics or activities. The shady trees would provide excellent protection from the sun's eternally harsh heat, which is useful in an equatorial country such as mine. There are such parks around, but not that many since most of my area has lots of construction and very little space. If it was possible, I'd visit it every week.
