5th Gen Official English Name Discussion

From the same source of Pokewalker, it actually does seem the cities' names do have a theme, of CLOUDS! Here's what I've assembled of cloud names so far:
- Striaton City: Based off of Stratos clouds, which are layered clouds.
- Nacrene City: Based off of a Nacreous cloud, which seems to be quite savage and devastating.
- Castelia City: Based off of the cloud type of Castellanus, which are spiraling tower-like clouds. Makes sense since the city is full of skyscrapers.
- Nembassa City: Unsure on this, but I'm guessing something like the Nimbostratus cloud, which are quite foggy.

Omg that city name is as confusing as Alomomola (okay maybe not...XD;)

I wonder when the official site will update with these new city names (and screenshots, since I've been avoiding them :x)

At some point I probably should update the Pokemon List again if Kaori hasn't, as well as other stuff~

Oh and I also looove clouds, so the fact that B/W city names are based on clouds makes B/W more awesome...even if they're confusing to say.

sorry to say it everyone but these new names for the pokemon are godawful compared to the japanese names, most of them are just misspellings/mispronunciations of existing words they were either too lazy to spell correctly,or were just trying to hard to make it sound "cool"
cofagrigus is just awful, seriously what kind of moron thought that up?
klink? why not just stick with gear?
woobat? well just pronounce zubat and voila you get the idea...
timburr.... timber.... you got the point...
throh... throw... once again fail...
sawk... you mean that pointless piece of clothe people wear on their feet? *sigh*
Trubbish... Rubbish with a T... dear god who ever thought that up better get fired,i could think of better in my sleep (for example: Trashbag...)
Eelektross? just no
Druddigon............ Crimgan was better enough said....
Hydreigon.... 3heads ok.... but Hydrogen is nearly pronounced the same way.... anyone could make that mistake if they didnt know german seriously its not even a water type -_-"
Galvantura what was wrong with Denchura? i liked it, simple... easy to remember... easy to pronounce...
Tepig... The Pig... and no i dont give into that bull you all eat up "tepid + pig" my ass, its THE PIG, thats how uncreative they were, you guys just came up with a logical excuse.
i could go on for hours about these god awful names, but thatd be a waste of all our times& frankly thats an exaggeration :P

but i do have a few i like:
Volcarona <--- this was an improvement on Ulgamoth, which wasnt doign it for me, this Volcarona is far more awesome and is one of the few improvements

Tirtouga <-- Pirates of the Carribean referance anyone? sure its misspelled like every other bloody word/name in these pokemon but hey, i like it

Gigalith <---- this is an improvement its bloody awesome XD

Cubchoo <--- 1word: ADORABLE!

& Sinvy,Servine,&Serperior i can live with, even though the jap names were better& even Smugleaf,Smugster,&Smuglord was better

otherwise the names are awful people, the city names are more creative than the pokemon names :/

Whoa, something I just noticed, from Serebii's Pokemon list... Apparently, Darmanitan's Daruma Mode is now called Zen Mode. Can someone confirm?

It's the same with Meloetta's Voice Form, and Step Form.
They're now Aria Form and Pirouette Form...
Much better! :)

Serebii updated the site on the leaked names.

I stole the Lilligan and Mienshao alts by the way. ;)

@Volroc: Why does Hydreigon have to be related to water? It's Hydra + Dragon with a little German flair. Considering the multiple heads, having 'Hydra' in the name make sense. (And I'm guessing it's pronounced High-DRAY-gone. Pretty far off from Hydrogen.)

Also, Tortuga is Spanish for turtle, so it's only barely a Pirates reference.

I agree, though, some of these names are terrible. Bert & Ernie's English names are just..... sad.... >.<

Oh I really like the name Nimbassa City, it sounds sort of Airy and mythical. Well I guess it is based on clouds.

Really digging the cloud references this gen. :)

Well, since even more names match the rumored list and even Serebii seems to agree. I'm going to say that we know every Pokémon name.

I would of never noticed the cloud pattern in the city names. But, now that seems to be the case. I like the names.

Cilan, Chili, and Cress are clever; better than Dent, Pod, and Corn. Plus, I find it cool that their hair color matches in some way with their names.

I just heard a rumour saying Kamitsure's english name is: Charga

.....Now I'm always pretty positive when it comes to english names, pokemon designs and all that.....but this is too much really. :(

Charga? It sounds like the name of a dwarf in some fantasy rpg (a male dwarf I might add)......not to mention it gives me more an image of her being charred than charged.

I had my own idea for Kamitsure:

Felicity

Fel (from FEL Lamp) + icity (from electricity)

FEL Lamp: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FEL_lamp

Aloe's English name is Verra I was hoping her Japanese name would be the same.

In a way I was expecting something like this to come across as her English name. If it really is, I like it. It's like the product "Aloe Vera", which I'm going to make a logical guess and believe that's how they came up with it. v_v

I just looked at the English Pokemon names on Serebii, and the first thing I though was that it looks for most of them they got someone to just press random letters on the keyboard until something that barely resembles a word appeared on screen, and I feel I'll HAVE to watch the Black and White anime just so I can find out how on earth you pronounce most of them.
There are a few like the Fire and Grass starters where you can see they at least thought about it, but unfortunately not enough of them. It's a good job I have started giving my Pokemon Nicknames in the last few games, but even if I hadn't done in the past, I would be forcing myself to this time.

Charga sounds... bad. And Felicity would be nice, but whether the translation team is smart enough to think of that is another question.

Aloe's English name is Verra I was hoping her Japanese name would be the same.

That's still a rumour (and a PokeJungle one at that). God I hope she stays Aloe.

Wow, nobody likes Throh and Sawk. I think they're cool names. Very unique. And no, Sawk is not based off of that article of clothing. It's sock, like socking someone. A punch.
Short and simple. Throh is teh win.

Well, Bulbapedia hasn't updated their articles with the new names yet, apart from the confirmed ones, and I know why (they have to make sure it's confirmed from another source other than fansites to do so).

Anyway, I'm not fond of "Throh" and "Sawk." I understand their meanings, but they just don't sound right.
