5th Gen Official English Name Discussion

I've been browsing one of the Bulbagarden threads, and came across these proposed English names (I'm limiting myself from most of the Pokemon, so I can't post their Japanese names. But they shouldn't be too hard to figure out...)

Baboom - fire monkey (Hihidaruma or pre-evo)
Orangubang - fire monkey (Hihidaruma or pre-evo)
Arachtric - electric spider (Denchura or pre-evo)
Thorantula - electric spider (Denchura)
Crocodune - ground gator/croc (Meguroko)
Sarcophaghoul - sarcophagus (Desukan)

I would LOL if I ever heard a Pokemon Stadium announcer say "It's ORANGUBANG!" It's very fun to say as well! :cer_laugh:

Sarcophaghoul seems to exceed the current 10-character name limit; the only alternatives I can develop would be Sarcofagul or Sarcophagl... But those detract a bit from the original awesomeness of "Sarcophaghoul"...

See, if you hadn't mentioned it, that never would have crossed my mind! :cer_laugh: I think the "BANG!" part is to reference a firearm...not that OTHER 'concept'...

But you have to admit, it rolls right off the tongue nicely!

Jp: Iront -> Us: Irant, Anteel, Antanium,

Jp: Buffalon -> Us: Afrox

for the big 1: garbagiga [garbage+giga]

for the big polar bear: polursa [polar and ursa]

i think mijumaru's us name will be ''ottceon'' or ''shellott''.

I think Buffalon's name could be Afrox as well. If you look at Buffalon straight away, you'll notice it has an afro. XD; Except this would relate to an ox and not so much a buffalo.

I haven't seen which Pokemon you're referencing as I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but "Garbagiga" sounds like it would be very fun to say (I don't want to see the 'giga' prefix overused though; we've already had it with Regigigas...)! I might nickname the Pokemon "Garbagiga", though! :D

Almost all of those are really good, it would be cool to see them actually become the real names.

Someone (Not sure who) on here once said that the fire starter should be named "Pignition" and I think that ones good. The final evolution on it should definitely be named "Boarbaque", whoever made that one got it perfectly. :D

Except maybe the "a" should be an "e" as in "Boarbeque". >_<
