Using Netflix in the land of internet piracy seems a little odd to me.

It can tend to be more convenient. Same reason I sometimes use Crunchyroll at any point in time. Bonus points because they're on consoles and are thus made more portable, so I can switch from TV to TV or Computer pretty easily.

My sister has Netflix so I use it, though rarely since I don't really watch live-action TV that often and movies are also a rarity (though, when I was younger, I used it quite a bit).

For TV, though, Hulu's definitely the better choice. Fantastic selection of shows and a surprising plethora of anime, subbed and dubbed, and older ones too. Great cable alternative, really.

Okay machomuu summed it up.

It's more legal than internet piracy too. There's that.

Sequential downloading removes a lot of the waiting and unless streaming sites have improved a lot since I last tried them you aren't getting the best video/audio quality.

Whatever floats your boat though, I suppose.

Yeah, but not all devices can go on anime streaming sites, handle mkvs, or make transferring mp4s/avis the quickest affair, hence the convenience. Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Netflix are widely available services that you can use with your Smart TV, your gaming devices, and your Chromecast (or similar devices). Going on streaming sites or moving your torrented anime to these devices or to any TV not already connected to a computer is an incredible hassle otherwise, and I'd rather not have to keep lugging my laptop from place to place to watch things (My 32' TV's my usual anime-watching spot because my Laptop's always connected to it, so torrents, downloads, hurrah or whatever, but in the off chance that I want to watch something on my 70' for the sake of visual/audio bliss, it takes a little work).

Personally, I do prefer downloading anime to take advantage of MPC's upscaling/downscaling capabilities, but if I want to watch something and I just happen to be near my larger TV (or if I want to watch a visually stunning movie, though in this case I'll generally have it and, again, want to take advantage of MPC), having the others around helps.

It's ultimately quality vs. convenience and what matters more to you in the moment, really.

What I do when I know that I'll be away from my computer for a while is to torrent a bunch of stuff on to an external HDD. Then I can connect it to my phone, TV, etc. and watch it from there.

Also, mpv > MPC-HC.

I dunno, man. MPC-HC + madvr is pretty amazing. Especially thanks to the smooth motion and up/downscaling.

As far as External HDDs go, don't have the money, currently. Plus, if I wanted to watch anime in a versatile manner that way, I'd have to go the avi/mp4 route, and I'm not 100% sweet on even the smallest quality loss brought by conversion.

33. Legal streaming services are just easier to use, really. Don't have to worry about malware from non-legal streams and don't have to go digging to find an active, fast, reliable seed that runs the risk of your ISP receiving a DMCA and then terminating your service.

Also, in my experience, smart TVs that can play MKVs don't know how to interpret the soft subs in MKV files. If they're hardcoded subs they'll show just fine. Softcoded, not so much.

Well I usually just use HS anyways. They can be trusted.
