Well, everything leading up to that point where he asked Jinbe to join makes it seems like a sure thing for me. Even to the point where I can ignore his bounty, strength within crew, and all that other stuff.

A lot of people find him boring, but I've liked the guy every since he consoled Luffy on Amazon Lily.

Plus, that smile Luffy had cannot be refused. :)

I'll join as well. I just finished the Enies Lobby arc in the anime and am taking a little rest before going any further. Marathoning 3 arcs straight takes a lot out of me :c

I've really only met with support for Jinbei, everyone I talk to thinks he's awesome and wants him in the crew except me and a friend from uni. It does seem really unlikely that Jinbei will turn him down, what with how it was all set up but there's still a chance! No offence, Jinbei, you're awesome I just don't think it's right to have you in the crew :P I agree with Coral, a completely new face would be awesome. But as someone said before Jinbei fills the roll of helmsman and is strong enough to survive in the New World and not be a liability, he would definately be an asset. The only thing I can think of that would make him say no is that apparently Oda said he wouldn't add anyone to the crew who was stronger than Sanji but ahh well, whatever happens I'm sure it'll turn out dandy.

Jinbe said no, for now at least. Which I guess takes care of people wanting him to join and people not wanting him to join. We both get something. Then we have the classic huge One Piece party/feast that is accompanied after every big battle. Then we get to find out some more about the poneglyphs and what they mean and it's always nice to hear some information about the void century.

Now I wonder how the revelation of Shirahoshi being an ancient weapon will play out? Will he keep her there or send her off? This clearly points to a couple more chapters before this arc is done.

Wasn't quite expecting that outcome with Jinbe.
But I'm pretty satisfied with it. I felt he should have stayed in Fishman Island.

Wow, bit of a shocker about the poneglyphs and Shirahoshi.
I wonder if Pluton was actually some great ability too.
Maybe Robin will reference back to it in the next chapter.

Well, I guess this chapter makes up for not having one next week. Lot of stuff going down!

Blackbeard becoming one of the four Emperors isn't really surprising, but the fact they're devil fruit hunting is! What's the purpose for this? Is this guy able to absorb even more than 2 in his body? Or is it just for the rest of his crew?

I guess even if they're powers were equal, Akainu (or Sakazuki now since he's been promoted) possessing Aokiji's natural enemy of fire, might have been the deciding factor. Apparently he's disappeared and no one knows his whereabouts. I smell a future ally for the Strawhats. ;D

lol@hody and his crew. Got what they deserved.

Curious to see what will happen to Caribou. He was just blasted away by Luffy, but his crew just arrived on Fishman Island too.

I loved this chapter! One of the best ones in a while.

I like that we got to know more about the ancient weapons.
But I'm a bit disappointed that there are only three; power of trinities, I guess.
I bet Pluton is still out there somewhere, it can't be dead...

I wasn't expecting the fight for the Fleet Admiral position.
I was really hoping Aokiji would become the next Fleet Admiral.
As Jinbe said, with Akainu leading, the Marines will become more antagonistic.

It'll be very interesting to see how Aokiji comes into play later on.

Caribou is just a sick creep. >.>
I don't think we'll see much of him after this arc.
But he is very good at sneaking and running away.

I just laughed at the New Fishman Pirates. xD
I think Hammond might get a short cover story, if Robin didn't end-up killing him.

Sounded like he's getting DF powers from the rest of his crew.
But I think only he can have two at once, and I hope it's only two at once...

Can't be bothered writing up a full summary, so I'll do it in dot points.
- Other straw hats (except Brook) got stranded
- Sanji had a giant nosebleed
- Luffy was a boss
- They need some special blood or something

Big Mom's recent appearance make her look like a character out of a Miyazaki movie. xD

Anyone else notice that her real name seems to be in western format?
Usually characters' names in One Piece are family name first, and then given name.
But I'm pretty sure her given name is Charlotte.
There have been a few other characters like this; Edward Newgate, Marshall D. Teach, Demalo Black, Trafalgar Law, Jean Bart.

I was wondering when Luffy would throw his weight around and start declaring islands under his protection. xD
But I wonder what Big Mom is like as a fighter.
I'd laugh if she tries to eat Luffy, but can't since he's a rubber man. xD

Chapter 653

Not a lot is really happening in the latest chapter but I am really excited for what is coming up. I'm curious to see how this whole thing with Big Momma will turn out with Luffy standing up to her, the exploding treasure and that fat lady pirate from Thriller Bark (I forget her name but iirc she's connected to Big Momma) so I can see that changing things. I'm also excited to see Smoker again sometime soon and to see how the Strawhat's fight on land!

Also, since Jinbei turned him down (for now) what does everyone think of potential new crew members? I think a dancer would be cool and would go nicely with Brook's music. The dancer could be to Sanji what Brooke is to Zoro? (A dancer could be a girl as well which would mean more fanservice and One Piece really likes it's fanservice...). It would also fit with what Oda said about any potential new crew members, he won't include anyone stronger than Sanji or anyone weaker than Usopp. Brook is weaker than Zoro, also uses swords and has comedic relief. Dancer is weaker than Sanji? Fights with feet? Provides more comedic relief and fanservice? It makes sense to me although I'm just trying to back up what I think would be cool.

What is everyone else looking forward to in the New World?

I haven't been watching the anime much, since it's pretty much the same as the manga.
It's interesting to see the color schemes of all the different Fishman Island characters.

I was also surprised a bit at Hody and Decken's voices.
I guess I just expected them to sound younger.
But Hody's wiki page does say he is 30 years old.

And after some earlier wiki walking, I found out that Shirahoshi is only 16. >.>

The meeting between Hody and Decken seemed appropriately more epic and ominous than in the manga. xD

Chapter 653

Well, I wrote it in tiny, crossed out text on the bottom of my post but this is a new account, I'm Charliezard. I don't really care what I'm called, Charlie, Juicy whatever works.

I haven't been watching the anime much lately either although my brother just started watching it again (He got up to like 230 a while back and then stopped) so I've been watching a bit of the first episodes with him (And I did just watch the Arabasta arc myself). I just don't pay attention to the anime as it comes out anymore, the manga is so much easier. The main things I look forward to in the anime is the fights and Brook's songs. Other than that I just don't feel the need to watch it when I can read it so much faster. That being said the anime is a nice change of pace here and there and is a lot of fun to watch while eating. Eating and reading is a total pain.

Anyway, I figured I'd watch the anime and...

I said it before and I'll say it again, Usopp is a total badass after the 2 year skip. Watching this episode after earlier One Piece really shows how much he's grown... I love it!

I'd think the fact that there's 7 males and 2 females also hints that maybe a future crewmember would be a female although it's certainly not solid evidence at all... Hell, we don't even know for sure that there will be any more crew members. Future nakama could easily be allied pirate crews (I mean, it's highly likely that people in the New World would have their crews pretty much set.). Although they could really do with a helmsman...


Unrelated but why don't they make swords/bullets out of seastone? Or at least coat them with it?

Well, Nami Usopp and Chopper (human form) all seemed to share the duty on the Going Merry.
Franky (and Sanji sometimes) seems to be the main helmsman for the Thousand Sunny.
Jinbe is also a competent helmsman.

I don't know, really. Smoker (and Wiper, sort of) has been the only one to use Sea-Prism Stone in an actual weapon.
I think Usopp should get some Sea-Prism Stone arsenals.

Can't say I know fish names but yeah, that blobfish thing was funny. That reaction was priceless and so typical! I'm glad they didn't end up cutting it loose, they would have been so sad :(

To confuse Brook, duh... lol. They carefully planned those scars for when the Strawhats came by to make Brook think he was seeing Laboon.

I'm so pumped right now! It's all happening, they're officially on the same sea as Shanks! It's about to get real!

Yeah, but you'd think that since they're heading into the most dangerous sea in the world that perhaps someone who is a really experienced helmsman would leave them a little better off than the current crew (That was the main argument for Jinbei joining that I noticed).

If the marines have to go up against people like Ace and other logia types then you'd think they would invest in weapons like that... And if pirates wanted to be able to defend themselves from the admirals then you'd think they'd do the same. It just seems like something that should be utilised a lot more than it is but maybe it's really rare and using it for prisons and restraints is more important.

There's a chance we may even start to see more sea stone weapons since we've entered the New World. I mean, it would really help marines go up against Logia types like Ace without needing to be trained in Haki which ain't easy... And seeing as it's the New World there's bound to be more DF users and in turn, more logia types.

Does Iceburg's new secretary remind anyone else of Robin from Strong World?

So onward to the Island of fire and ice?!
And it wasn't even registered on the log pose.
I like how Nami is using Sea Clouds; a tie back to the Skypia arc.
I wonder if she can use anything other than Milky Road, though.

I'm a bit surprised by there being distinct "Samurai".
I thought though Oda might just stick to generic swordsmen.
It'll be awesome to see Zoro, and hopefully Brook, fight some Samurai.

Another thing I was surprised by was the dragon on Punk Hazard.
I didn't think Oda was much into dragons, at least for One Piece.
But after a wiki walk, I found out that Ryuma was actually from a one shot Oda did a while ago, which involves a dragon.
He also ties the one shot, Monsters, into the canon of One Piece.

Oh, and I guess it was Robin's turn for a bit of fanservice this chapter.

Let's see... I'll cover my opinion on the last chapter as well... They were awesome. Smoker is badass, samurais = swords and swords = Zoro. I want to see Zoro fight all out. That dragon looks totally awesome, well looked. That guy they met seems like Buggy (I mean who else could be just legs and Buggy was sorta hinted as a possible Sichibukai member) but if it's just a guy without a torso then that'd be cool xD Basically an awesome 2 chapters and I have more to say but I can't be bothered.
