Ruby and Sapphire Remake! why wouldn't it be in Hoenn right!?

Well... I'm not convinced this will be set in hoenn. Here's why.

1.) The Backpacker from X & Y version saying something about a region that isn't Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, or Kalos. Did that backpacker have any significance? Was he talking about the next games or something else? If he was talking about the next games then maybe Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire won't be set in Hoenn.

2.) The short little video said "Explore a dramatic new world".

    new/n(y)o͞o/
    adjective
    1.
not existing before; made, introduced, or discovered recently or now for the first time.

By definition, Hoenn is not new.

So what I'm saying is it doesn't make sense to me why it wouldn't be in Hoenn, but it seems like it might not be. Any thoughts?

It was explained somewhere that OR & AS is a remake of Ruby and Sapphire so it is undoubtedly Hoenn Confirmed. I'm thinking the new region the backpacker stated would most likely happen on the third version where XY and ORAS stories converge most likely.

I did wonder about this myself, but Iwata recently stated these games are outright remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, not sequels or anything. And they just couldn't be remakes if the games took place in a new region.

Maybe the backpacker is referring to a new region that you can visit in the post-game of ORAS? ...Well I can dream, can't I?

By "new," I'm 99% certain that they mean "after over 10 years, with how much the system technology has improved, Hoenn will have so much new life breathed into it that it feels like a new place." Their attempt at hyping up fans led to some confusion, but as was said, it has been confirmed that these are straight-up remakes. There is no reason why the game (or at least the main portion of it) would not be set in Hoenn.

For me, "Explore the dramatic new world" might mean introducing different perspectives of how Hoenn region is depicted, because I heard that ORAS are definitive remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, so they have to make it different yet still in the same Hoenn region. And I think maybe the backpacker might be mentioning the new region which will be in Generation 7.

"new" might just mean better graphics and visuals. I'm hoping for something like a new "evil team" and/or storyline. 3rd gen was my favourite so I have high hopes for ORAS

Maybe the "new" region from X and Y does exist in OR/AS after you defeat the Hoenn League and finish the main storyline, as the backpacker that gave you the strange souvenir said "we will be visiting his region in due time", maybe there are Pokemon we haven't even seen that could be on the Pokedex... Maybe the strange souvenir correlates to OR/AS.

I'm thinking the region the backpacker mentions is the region of either the next generation or the region of a spin-off. Like Orre or some spin-off that is in the works. But not ORAS. Since it's been confirmed that ORAS are indeed remakes, they will most definitely take place in Hoenn. It seems they're being advertised a "new world" because 1) it's a new world to the new generation of kids who only recently started playing Pokemon. They were either too young or not alive when Ruby and Sapphire came out and this is a new experience for them. 2) There could possibly be some extra post-story or island similar to the Sevii Islands. 3) New and better graphics and visuals in a style similar to X and Y.

Put simply if these games weren't set in Hoenn then these games wouldn't be full remakes, Satoru officially stated that these games are in fact full remakes.

The Backpacker from X & Y version saying something about a region that isn't Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, or Kalos. Did that backpacker have any significance?

In 5 years, there will be a brand new region for Gen7, the backpacker is talking about a place that doesn't exist yet. But when you replay XY in 2017 you will say, "OMG the backpacker was from gen7."

*Numbers are approximate, guys, no need to debate the release of Gen7*

New game, man, not new region. They said new world, they are referring to seeing Hoenn in 3D. They say new game, they are referring to a game they haven't released before. In all means, we do not know whether it would be in Hoenn, but where would you expect Ruby and Sapphire remakes to be? Sevii Islands? No doubt everybody here would want it in Hoenn.

Since it's confirmed that Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire are REMAKES they will be set in Hoenn and will have some small changes just like in Heart Gold / Soul Silver that remade Gold and Silver with some changes like the expanded pokedex , the Safari Zone and the Pokeathlon.
However it might have a sub-region for post-game side quests ( Much like Sevii Islands in Fire Red and Leaf Green )

As said elsewhere, new was also used to refer to Kyurem in Black 2 & White 2. It's pretty much confirmed that the games will take place in Hoenn since a remake involving a new region would be completely redundant, as it wouldn't be a remake in that case.

It'd only make sense for them to be set in Hoenn. They might include other regions/new areas but I'm certain that for the majority of the game with be set in Hoenn and surrounding areas. As for "new," I'd say they were referring to a "new" game with "new" graphics, features, game play and storyline changes etc.

Given the games are traditional remakes as opposed to a sequel, the games will pretty much be set in Hoenn but I'm hoping that they can give us a huge postgame compared to what the original games had. Remakes in the past did give us lots of postgame content so I'm expecting them to not let me down here.

If it's a remake of Ruby and Sapphire, why wouldn't it be in Hoenn...? If it wasn't in Hoenn, it wouldn't be considered a "remake."

Perhaps that crazy backpacker was talking about the 7th gen or the second versions (if there will be) of X and Y?

"In addition to the thirteen Berries that can only be cultivated through mutation, another fourteen Berries do not appear in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y and can be obtained only by trading them from other regions."

It says ''Regions'' not ''Region'', so they're talking about Hoenn and another region, I don't think there will be a second region in ORAS. So it will be in or a sequel or another remake, I don't think they will be remaking DPt soon so maybe a sequel of XY will have the region the backpacker is talking about.

Well, since the game is obviously in Hoenn, do you think they'll add another new area for players to explore like the Sevii Islands or do you think they'll just keep Hoenn the way it is?

What do you guys think they'll do?

Hoenn is confirmed, which is fine. However I would almost bet that there will be a "new land", as an addition to Hoenn. In the FRLG remakes, we see the Sevii islands, which was a great addition to the remade games to expand the storyline and game's length. In HGSS, Kanto could be considered as the "post game area", even though it was in the original Gold, Silver, and Crystal games. Having said that, HGSS added a plethora of new areas. The Pokéathlon Dome, Cliff's Edge Gate, Route 47, The Cliff Cave, Embedded Tower, Route 48, Safari Zone (gate), Frontier Front, Battle Frontier, and the Sinjoh Ruins. That's a lot of post-game content, especially if you consider Kanto. Now, the first half of HGSS is arguably as long as (or close to) the length of R/S/E's main storyline. And given that the games give you a lot more hours since they hit the DS consoles; I'm willing to bet that there may very well be more than just Hoenn in OR&AS.

A new region may be a stretch, but a new land is certainly something I'm thinking will prop up. This is a remake, not a re-release; you're promised new content.
