Diversity is almost an issue for every regional dex, B2W2 and XY are not sharing this problem with the other games as the Unova sequels got 300 Pokémon and there is a total of 457 Pokémon for all three Kalos regional Pokédex.

The Hoenn region is unfortunately still lacking of diversity despite the addition of certain evolutionary families. For example, let's take a look at the initial battles with the Hoenn Elite Fours.
    • Glacia has 2 Froslass, 2 Glalie and a Walrein.
    • Phoebe has 1 Dusclops, 2 Banette, a Dusknoir* and a Sableye.
**The replacement of Dusclops for Dusknoir is a slight improvement from the originals. However, they still belong to the same evolutionary line**
    • Drake has an Altaria, one Kingdra, 2 Flygon and a Salamence.
**The replacement of Shelgon for Kingdra is a slight improvement from the originals. It might be a shout out to the Emerald version as well.**

    So here's the discussion...
Do you think they should have added more non-Hoenn natives to the Hoenn region Pokédex to increase the diversity issue or should they stick to the original as possible?
Which Pokémon they should add to the Hoenn rosters?

    Let's discuss!

Diversity has always been a problem with the e4 since the first gen. The first gen did have an excuse because of the lack of pokémon. I mean this is the first remake where they added the new evolution/pre-evolution states to the first dex. And they changed the teams. The other 2 remakes sticked with their original teams. Because this is a remake they didn't really have a choise of adding new pokémon to the pokedex, but as soon as you get your 8th badge you can get the national dex so I think they should have changed the teams to not include doubles.

Pinkie is so gonna have a field day with this, but aside from that I feel like adding new things into the regional Dex that weren't related to the native Pokemon already would ruin the point of the games being remakes. The only new stuff added was the 4th Gen cross-evos, and that also saw some of the teams being edited, even if they were mostly from the same evolution lines. However, it's more about certain types being scarce that are to blame for duplicates and they wanted to stick close to the originals as much as possible while still making it fresh.

I really wanted them to add an updated pokedex like we had in X & Y because that made the teambuilding in X & Y so fun and a lot better than previous titles. But I knew that we wouldn't get that because it's a remake and they won't just add in like 300+ extra Pokemon from different regions but it would have been nice. I guess it was good getting the few extras that we did get though.

You aren't the first one to mention this issue, as Hikamaru pointed out.

    1. Definitely, diversity is an important factor that could make or break the game experience, not the game's features.
    2. Add in the Pokémon who received Mega Evolutions in ORAS such as Slowbro and Steelix, as well as the Pokémon you could only find from the Dex Nav.

Ironically it's a tough one for me, despite I'm the OP this time! Haha!

But my dearest friend [supporter]OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire[/supporter] and games like the DP as well as other hacks by PC members reminded me how important is diversity. While I'm not much of a fan with non-natives invading a region that supposedly have noting to do with them, XY and B2W2 actually proved how important diversity is, specially when they are contrasted by other games that are suffering the diversity issue.

Honestly, I don't care much about diversity. 150 Pokémon is enough. 1st gen lacked diversity, but when your only Ghost-type is Gengar and your only Dragon-type is Dragonite, that's not so important.

I wish they had added more Pokemon that can be found regularly and before the National Dex is obtained. There were a lot of Pokemon that were DexNav- and Mirage-only and it just seemed like a lot. I was fine with Elite Four having Hoenn-only (if they use all different then teams will eventually start looking the same), but the wild Pokemon could have been changed.

I am definitely on the pro-diversity side. Having started with Unova and Kalos, I find gyms leaders + elite 4 with repeated Pokemon super irritating since it lowers the difficulty and is such a waste when there are over 700 Pokemon to chose from. Pokemon from the same evolutionary line are still acceptable, but the exact same Pokemon is too much (thank goodness I did not have to experience Lance until the World Tournament where he had a changed team).
