Bliss' response has inspired an idea for a new thread, haha.

I was honestly kind of thinking this too; if not the Professor, maybe the assistant? Although his personality suggests that he'd rather work alone I think, so who knows.

If they somehow incorporate Mega Evolution into the main plot(again) for SM, I think it would be neat to see him again. I was honestly expecting him to show up in the post-game of XY after encountering that NPC who met him on Route 10.

I personally would love to see Colress as our regional Professor in SM, if not, we can go with Bliss' assistant idea too!

Who would you like to see again and why? How important and relevant they should be to the (main) plot?

As unlikely as it is, I would like to see Colress again especially with that NPC on Kalos Route 10 mentioning him. Knowing most new generation games, older characters seem to only make minimal appearances or not at all, so maybe the best I could see is him getting mentioned again.

They should honestly bring back a few main characters from earlier games for anniversary-related cameos. Alder could begin a sing-song about the virtues of the metal generation and especially the Silver version, etc.

Really, though, unless the regions overlap, not sure about older characters being given too prominent a role. Firstly, this might disturb canonicity if they're too old, and secondly they probably want to start up a new region, if that's what they're going with primarily, with mostly new inhabitants and so on compared to the recent games.

With the possible connection to Kalos still a possibility (as far as I remember that is still a possibility anyways), I could see some of the characters from the XY games come back, such as Sycamore (especially if there is a connection to Mega Evolution) and I'm thinking Looker will come back again since hes been very prominent in the games the last few years.

I had forgotten about the Colress mention in XY so that would be pretty cool if we got to see him in the new games. I always thought he was cool character and seeing him again would interesting for sure.

Here's a thing. Game Freak has a tradition in naming the professors from trees. Oak, Elm, Birch, Rowan, Juniper, and Sycamore are the professors. Colress is not a tree, and he was from an evil organization; therefore, I'm highly confident that Colress is not going to be our next professor.

Right, which even makes me confident about Colress not being the new professor. As has been the tradition of nintendo of introducing a new professor in every new region Ash goes, this new region in SM is also gonna have a new one.

First, the thread isn't mainly about Colress. Second, Colress is just a first name. Third, my words are just wishful thoughts. Also on a serious aspect, they aren't going to let Colress become a regional professor since he was working for Team Plasma. (:

    Colress is not a tree
I suppose he could get a quick change to something like 'Cypress' in English, because he has left the team and hence can return to being named after trees and such, nonetheless there does seem to be some potential in charting the various characters in the Pokémon series based on marking whether or not they are trees.

Something just came to my mind. What if we see that the new elite 4 champion is some gym leader from past gen games, like Brock, or Clair, or that Opelucid gym leader(whose name i do not remember).. It would be great, isn't it?

It would be an interesting concept, but I still feel we'll be getting an entirely new champion going by most generational patterns. The Johto games were an exception since Kanto did make up the post-game, and B2/W2 took two years after the first Unova games.

I can see the possibility with Misty in particular! She had expressed an interest in traveling! Yeah, it's just 'one of those text', but that doesn't deny the possibility of GF picking up that part again (see Munna and Picknicker Carol in FRLG/FRLG's classic counterpart, the Gen I games).

I would love pretty much ANY returning character from a previous main game. One of the reasons I have the fondest memories of Gold & Silver was seeing the Gym Leaders and other characters make a return, especially seeing Koga become an Elite 4, or how Lance went on a solo crusade against Rocket, hearing about Giovanni and how Red became a Pokemon obsessed Master and kinda secluded himself Akuma style for someone strong enough to challenge him.

I think that's one thing the Pokemon games could re-learn, letting us get to know characters and see them grow/progress within these games. I would love to know what happened to Red, the past Elite 4 members. I'd also absolutely love to see Professor Juniper and Siebold return down the line.

I feel that if the region is connected to Kalos, Sycamore may act as professor in it, too. Or if we get a new professor, Sycamore could still have a larger role, similar to how Oak played a small part in the story of gen 2 (and introduced us to it, leaving Elm as our only prof. to not welcome us into the world of Pokémon).

Then again, if the region is connected to Kalos, we'll probably see a lot of Kalosian NPCs, as I feel Game Freak would probably not make, for example, a completely new set of 8 Gym Leaders when they could easily reuse most of the ones they already have.

On another note, this is something I brought up in some other thread but I guess the same idea applies here, too. Some characters work really well as "cameo fodder" because they aren't really very in-depth, so just appearing as a cameo doesn't really "ruin" their character. But then there are some characters who are very in-depth, and just appearing as a cameo could leave a bad taste in your mouth that they weren't utilized to their full potential.

For example: Cynthia. Awesome, but not very deep character-wise. So her appearing as a cameo character in BW feels appropriate because she can battle you with her powerful team and have this sort of "aura" of just how cool she is. Nothing about her character is "lost" and she remains "herself."
On the flipside, Looker. A character who, to a good number of fans, is known for helping add depth to the narrative he joins in. So him appearing in ORAS just to give you the Audinite, with amnesia for absolutely no reason whatsoever, feels almost insulting to his character. Why is he there? Why does he have amnesia? Why does he have the Audinite? Fans ask these questions because they've come to associate narrative depth with Looker. But in this case he was demoted to "standard NPC:" any nameless NPC could have given you the Audinite and nothing would have changed about the scenario. So unless Sun & Moon play off the plot point of Looker having amnesia, the whole scenario was pointless and Looker "demoted."

So when it comes to certain characters, especially those associated with a lot of narrative depth, they can't really be "cameos" without degrading them in some way--and personally, I'd rather those characters not appear at all than appear in a way that is completely disrespectful to their character. I know that Colress was used as an example, but playing off of that, he'd have to be a pretty major character to justify him being in Sun & Moon, otherwise it's not really gonna feel like Colress--rather, he'd have to have an appropriate reason for being there. This applies to other major, in-depth characters, too.

There are definitely appropriate ways to incorporate such characters as mere cameos, but the key thing is "reason." Nobody wants to see their favorite character show up only to be upset by how they were handled.

Like, I would love it if, for instance, this was the region where N and the BW protagonist finally met up with each other (bonus points if there's some sort of data retrieval function like in B2W2 where you can have the protag be the same as yours in BW). But that kind of thing would require at the very least a heartfelt scene to play out, not just have N stand there doing nothing.

Zinnia for Pokemon Champion of whatever-the-hell-this-region you guys

I dunno from what I saw in ORAS she's probably not coming back. Seems like she's headed for the stars... or something like that. I think Steven has a better chance out of any people in ORAS to make a comeback. He seemed pretty important.

You know, if we had Cynthia appearing in two different regions I wouldn't mind Steven making a cameo in 7th Gen region, especially with him being a popular character among fans like Cynthia is.

""I was finally able to bring everything to an end. I thank you for that. I think I'll spend some time now trying to find out if it's also possible to forge a new beginning for something once lost. Until we meet again,
    Zinnia""

C'mon, she's not dead. :P She's probably traveling. Even if Zinnia doesn't end up as a Champion as most Zinnia fans wish. It's possible for her to reappear in SM like how N appeared to help Nate/Rosa during the climax. :D

It is not impossible. I mean in gen 5 we saw Caitlin as an E4 member. She was a frontier brain in gen 4. We will probably see Looker again, but I would really like to see emma again in her suit.

There are several 'old' characters in Pokémon that I like. Professor Oak is the first Professor and as well as giving many players their first Starter, is famous for his notorious forgetfulness.

Blaine may be the coolest old man in the series particularly in the Gold/Silver remakes and to a lesser extent in the Gen 5 PWT and of course Gen 1. Drayden not only has a wise teacher Aura but also is noticeably tough...he wrestles Dragons.

In terms of 'old' as in returning characters I'd like to see most of the Kalos Gym Leaders given more exposure. For whatever reason the only Gym Leader the developers chose to give any depth to was Korrina and everyone else was just there. Valerie in particular could have been used more with the addition of the Fairy Type but got no exposure just like all the non Korrina Kalos Leaders.

In terms of potential returning characters potentially Sycamore could be a Champion. In the games he is clearly shown as having all three Kanto Starters and I think he has a Gible in the anime.

I can see Cynthia appearing again as a random bonus boss similar to the Unova Games.

Yeah but the old lady in the cave implied we wouldn't be seeing her anytime (we as in us). Although she might appear to a super powerful dragon in Sun and Moon. Although given that our likely mascots might not be dragons I don't know how you'd really get her to apply to the story.
