4th Gen Pal Park!

So, in Diamond and Pearl, we got many new features that relate to backwards compatibility, the ability to capture different Pokemon depending on the GBA cartridge you have in the 2nd slot of your Nintendo DS (like the Gengar in the Old Chateau, for example), and then, the Pal Park. This wondrous location is opened to you once you've finished filling the Sinnoh Pokedex.

Basically, the point of the Pal Park, you insert a GBA cartridge into slot 2, and go to the Pal Park. There, you can migrate Pokemon from your Game Boy game, e.g. Migrating a Blaziken to Platinum to use or trade. You pick 6 Pokemon to migrate to your DS game (sadly, once they're gone, they can't come back), and then you catch them, just like the Safari Zone. You can migrate any Pokemon that doesn't have a HM move in its moveset.

So, what did you think about this new feature? Did it help you on your travels?
(just remembered this is in HG/SS...wrong tag).

I was a big fan of the Pal Park, as there were many Pokemon that I'd spent a lot of time on training back on the third gen games, so it was really nice to not have all that effort go to waste.

It was a little disappointing that you couldn't access the Pal Park until the later stages of the game, though. It would've been nice if we could've transferred over, say, some of the first or third gen starters to use instead of the second or fourth gen, but I'm glad that we at least got some form of transfer, unlike between G/S/C and the third gen (even if it was tough, technologically).

Yeah, definitely enjoyed this feature. Especially once Hg/Ss came out, it was good as it meant I could get as many ribbons as possible on my Gen III pokémon (for starters, their original game's pokémon league, then Sinnoh league, then beating Red). And if I hadn't been able to transfer my Dragonite and Charizard to Platinum (before Hg/Ss came out) I would've been absolutely gutted.
My only problem with it is the 24-hour thing. It's just so...literal. I mean, if I use it at 8am, I can use it the next day any time after that, but if I used it at say 23:59, then I end up missing an entire day! I would've preferred the timing to be done on date, not actual time. Other than that, a good feature.

Unfortunately I didn't utilise Pal Park as much as most others have. My only Pokemon Gameboy Adv Game was Emerald. It turned out to be a fake so I threw it away. Of course this meant I wasn't able to really use pal park as much as I had hoped. Nonetheless I think it's a great feature.

Even though Ruby was the only 3rd Gen game I had a whole ton of Pokemon on it, I was still able to utilize Pal Park well, although it was on SoulSilver in my case. I did enjoy this feature since you can transfer high-level Pokemon over so you can make the Kanto gyms a cakewalk, assuming you're playing HG/SS. It was a pretty good feature I have to say.

I used the pal park a lot between my three 3rd gen games. it was a great feature that made getting Hoenn/Kanto pokemon easier to get with out using a cheat thing like an AR.

At first, I didn't like Pal Park, especially in DP days where your DS and GBA game clock had to sync and you had to wait. HGSS doesn't care about that though, thankfully. So I always use HG for that. And I especially liked Pal Park after we got gen V's transfer system. I dislike having to hunt down my Pokemon though. I mean, I caught them once before, why do I have to do it again?

Pal Park was, and still is, a very useful tool for me, one who spends his time mostly completing his Pokédex than battling..lol.

The most annoying things about it were, as other people have mentioned:
>The 24-hour lock-out, this was EXCEPTIONALLY annoying..
>The fact we had to find our own Pokémon again.. this was difficult especially if I had a rare Pokémon with a low catch-rate...

Still, the Pal Park was, and still is, one of my favorite pastimes on Generation 4 games. :)

Personally I thought Pal Park was great- I could bring team members from an older game into a new generation and environment. Although some of the features were irritating and it was frustrating running around like a headless chicken while searching for your Pokemon, overall it was a nice concept and I'm glad they implemented it. I didn't use it often though honestly, since I was rather lazy and couldn't be bothered to transfer all of my Pokemon over from Emerald. :p
