[PCL] PCL Championship II: Week 3

PCL Championship II: Week 3

Welcome to week 3! This week will be the final week to decide which three clans will progress onto the playoffs. May the odds be ever in your favor!

Also, sorry for the previous notification spam. It won't happen again.

Rules

  • All battles are to be done in the OU format on the PokéCommunity's battle server. (If both players agree to play a different format, they are allowed to do so, but it must be mutually agreed upon and the format must be one of the following: Ubers, UU, RU, NU, PU, or LC.)
  • All matches are best of one. You only have to do one battle for each week.
  • Post the battle replay of your match in this thread.
  • ATTENTION: Please schedule the match with your opponent via profile/visitor messages as soon as possible, then post the updates regarding your match in this thread. Inactivity or ignoring your opponent's messages may result in your opponent being given the win.
  • Read this thread for the full scheduling procedure. If you fail to follow the procedure, you won't be getting an activity win.
  • You can find your opponent's profile and time zone in the Clan Directory, but be sure to double check the time zone with your opponent!
  • Clan leaders can sub players by hiring mercenaries, which is done through the Mercenary Hiring thread.
  • There will be no extensions. We were firm on this point last time and we will be firm on it again for this PCL Championship.

As always, you may ask your clan for battling and team building advice in your clan's thread or Skype chat. You could regularly visit the battle server and ask for help there, especially if one of your clan mates are online. Check out PC's Battling & Team Building Resources, as well as the Team-Building Workshop.

Match-Ups

The deadline is Saturday, May 14th at 11:59 PM ET. HOWEVER, we will be posting the next week's match-ups on May 12th, one week from right now. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that you try to complete your match by the "soft deadline" of the 12th, but we will not enforce the deadline or make activity decisions until the aforementioned May 14th deadline. Again, there will be no extensions.

Wouldn't you need to know which clans win this week to figure out the matchups for next week?

Challenging user Youmu shortly :)

Yeah, this was a copy and paste error. The hard deadline is still the 14th, but we won't be posting anything before then even if the playoff seedings are locked in. Everyone needs to play out their matches first.

Speaking of which, the standings are:

1. Majestic Milotics (2-0, 7 wins)
2. Black Magic (1-1, 5 wins)
3. Ghosts of Perdition (1-1, 5 wins)
4. Team Orb (0-2, 3 wins)

(Black Magic beat GoP head-to-head.)

The top seed gets a bye to the finals. The middle two play a semifinal clan war.

So I went ahead and ran the numbers on this week's matches as far as I understand it, and here are the scenarios:

Scenario 1. Milotic > Ghosts, Orb > Magic: 1. Milotic (3-0) T2. Everyone else (1-2)

Scenario 2. Milotic > Ghosts, Magic > Orb: 1. Milotic (3-0) 2. Magic (2-1) 3. Ghosts (1-2) 4. Orb (0-3)

Scenario 3. Ghosts > Milotic, Orb > Magic: 1. Ghosts (2-1) 2. Milotic (2-1) 3. Orb (1-2) 4. Magic (1-2)

Scenario 4. Ghosts > Milotic, Magic > Orb: T1. Everyone that isn't Orb (2-1) 4. Orb (0-3)

That said, here is what each team need to do to miss playoffs or get the bye in text form:
Majestic Milotics: Cannot miss playoffs. Gets bye with win or 3-2 loss and Magic not 5-0ing in Scenario 4.
Black Magic: Misses playoffs with loss and Ghost win or tiebreak loss in Scenario 1. Gets Bye in Scenario 4 with Tiebreak win.
Ghosts of Perdition: Misses playoffs only by losing Tiebreak in Scenario 1. Gets Bye with win and Orb or tiebreak win
Team Orb: Misses playoffs with loss and either Ghost win or tiebreak loss. Cannot receive Bye.

Generic unbiased good luck to all teams, then completely biased GO MILOTIC!

And the 4th loss settles the Milotics' fate. We play next week vs the winner of Orb/Magic, and the winner of that fights the Ghosts. Loser of Orb/Magic is out.

Pardon the late activity decisions: I was graduating (and driving home)! Anyway, let's get to it:

punkysaur vs. Golgari
punkysaur contacted Golgari a week before the deadline, as seen, here, but Golgari never replied. punkysaur gets the activity win.

Sopheria vs. Rabinov
I hesitate to give either party an activity win since scheduling did not begin until four days after this week was posted, but as seen here, Sopheria did not reply for four more days and did not make any contact until over a week after the, uh, week was posted. So while Rabinov was not great, he did just enough since his opponent did nothing for so long. anything after that didn't matter. Rabinov gets the activity win.

Castform vs. KorpiklaaniVodka
Based on their scheduling conversation here, it doesn't look like either party deserves the activity win since there were no real follow-ups. In particular, KorpiklaaniVodka puts on a masterclass in bad scheduling by responding to multiple open-ended questions with "Ok" and then not coming on the server for the times he seemed to agree to. I don't see how either party can get an activity win here even though Castform clearly has more of a gripe.

The final standings are as follows:

1. Ghosts of Perdition (2-1, 9 wins)
2. Majestic Milotics (2-1, 8 wins)
3. Team Orb (1-2, 6 wins)
3. Black Magic (1-2, 6 wins)

More information on the adjudication of the tie coming very shortly.
