Percy Jackson: War of the Gods [T] [Best Rookie 4Q '11]

Jayson let his arms fall to his sides as the boy he had just spoken too went off and began giving out orders and assignments to everyone else present. He didn't like to go about unacknowledged, but he simple stood quietly and watched the other boy go about his business. He wasn't going to make a scene, not here. Plus, he's got his own things to worry about. Jayson thought. He sank back into the crowd and let the bodies wash over him. There wasn't much he could do at the time, so he opted to not do anything.

A short while later the Artemis child approached Jayson, who at the time was busy looking around and, more specifically, into the forest. It seemed dark in there, but it was probably just because he wasn't in it yet. Plus, it was still early, and the sun still had time to get its light through the branches. Still, the darkness of the trees was unsettling to Jayson nevertheless. He's been in the forest before to play Capture the Flag, yet for some reason, he can never seem to remember that as he gazes into the intertwining trunks that lead to blackness. It was like diving from a high board, almost. It looks so high, so dangerous when you're right about to go off of it, yet you know you won't be so bad and that you'll never get past the danger unless you jump off.

Jayson remembered that there was someone approaching him. He abruptly turned his gaze and acknowledged the boy with a look. He listened to him speak.

You and I will guard the flag. You may think my power won't be boosted like yours but..." the boy trailed off. "In this place, there really isn't much sun to boost you either." the boy finished, grinning. As it seemed, despite being literally from the moon and the sun, at least they did have some things in common.

"Yeah, I've noticed..." Jayson replied, but it was a mutter to himself.

***
"Half bloods take your positions, you have five minutes before the game begins!" Chiron called aloud, galloping off with a group of children.

"C'mon, we gotta head over to the flag." Jayson heard to his side. Turning, he saw the Artemis boy once more. He grinned and began sprinting to the lake.

Jayson's own grin spread across his face. "What? Scared I'm going to take the best spot?" Jayson called and began running to catch up. He didn't want to be to revealing with his words, although among the other chatter it probably wouldn't of mattered much. Then again, there would also be little benefit to the other team if they knew Jayson was defending the flag, as it was rather obvious that there would at least be some Apollo children guarding it.

Jayson had to pick up his pace a little bit to get within a god distance of the Artemis kid. Jayson was still in the empowering sunlight, so that helped a bit. Besides, what was wrong with a bit of exercise? He was going to be recovered by the time anyone on the enemy team got near the flag anyways.

"By the way, what's your name?" Jayson asked the other boy, now running next to him. "I've seen you around camp but I never caught it."

Looks like nobody wants to post. Well, the duty falls to me. :P

Jared Angelo
Camp Half-Blood
Forest

As Jared ran for his position near the flag, he heard a voice call out to him. "What? Scared I'm going to take the best spot?" the voice called playfully, it was Jayson. Jared took a look behind his shoulder and said "Nah, you can have it, I can shoot anything no matter where I stand." Jared replied as they raced on. By now, Jared was getting rather tired, he could run fast, but not too far, and the Apollo behind him was swiftly catching up. "By the way, what's your name?" Jayson asked, he was almost ahead of Jared, who picked up his pace. "I've seen you around camp but I never caught it." he continued. Jared looked to his left to see Jayson running right beside him now. He panted a little before saying "Name's Jared. Angelo. Been here for about a year." he smiled. "And you're Jayson, right? Pleasure to meetcha." he told him, and as if it was a way of greeting, he sped up and got ahead of Jayson again. His hands were getting sweaty, which was bad news when guarding a flag. His bow kept slipping out of his hand, although it was a rather cold day, so he should cool right off once he stopped running.

Finally, they got to their destination. Maybe a little too close too, as Jared almost fell into the river, and they had to back ten yards from their flag. "We should probably do back to back. If we're both looking in the same direction the enemy could slip past." Jared told Jayson. Back-to-back was just an expression, though, not like in the movies. You just had one person looking one way, and another person looking the other. It worked really well with eight people, since you could have someone looking North, north-east, east, south-east, south, south-west, west, and north-west. "They're definitely gonna send an Ares our way, so we should get lots of arrows to immobilize them." Jared mentioned to Jayson. "I might've sent an Aphrodite to protect the flag too, y'know? It would've been handy because she could charmspeak anybody into putting the flag back." Jared started conversing. "It was too risky though. What do you think? Would you have done it?" he asked Jayson.

Joshua Alden Emeress
Camp Half-Blood Forest

Josh stood at the a point he had planned, slightly North of the blue flag, a large outcropping stood out from the landscape. Josh lossened his left arms grip and pulled a trigger in his harness, his hidden blade shot out from its holster. He then raised his hands to his owl pendant and pulled from under his amour, he grasped it tight in both hands until he knew itwas time. He quickly exanded his hand and the chain holding the pendant released from his neck and curled around the pendant, folding over for thickness and somehow growing longer to accomaodate the growth. The chain hardened and the gaps filled, the top of the blade was made from pure stygian iron, the main blade of celestial bronze and the hilt made of raw steel, it had the pattern of an owl upon it.

The blade retook gravitys effect and was about to clatter to the ground when Josh caught it and gripped it tight in his right hand.

He looked at the others and said nothing, he simply nodded at them and smiled confidently and prepared for that horn, the one that would signal the games beginning.

"Look... it's nothing man, just drop it for now and..." Josh said quietly. X cursed to himself. He was never good with other natural being, and he'd get an F- in sociability, but it looked as if what he said made matters ten times worse for Josh. He felt really guilty, and was about to say something when battle horn sounded and a familiar voice spoke.

"It appears everyone has arrived." Chiron said to the demigods in the forest

"Half bloods take your positions, you have five minutes before the game begins!" After he finished speaking he ran into the forest with many Demigods sprinting to get into position before the horn blew again signifying the start of the game.

"Alright everyone take your positions! A1 follow me, we take our stand just North of the blue flag!" Josh shouted to get the attention of the demigods that weren't already moving. He seemed to have put aside what X had said, so he too decided to let it go.

He jogged after Josh with several other demigods. He saw another group of demigods through the trees, presumably A2. After a little time, the group halted in front of the river swiftly flowing down the center of the forest. On the other side of the river a small group of red-teammates were also preparing for battle. Their group was significantly smaller than A1. They're probably defenders X thought, because to put attackers right in front of your opponent's group would be really stupid. The other three Hephaestus kids were coming to join the A1 group from setting up verious traps. Hopefully Ergaleio had gotten his traps seeing that Maddox hadn't made it to his cabin.

Josh did some familiar movements to summon his weapon. A sword with a tip made from stygian iron, the main blade of celestial bronze, and the hilt made of steel, it had the pattern of an owl upon it.

Maddox summoned his own weapon. His right arm opened along cracks in its surface and unwound. Several parts moved in unison opening the arm more. Several rods from mechanisms, extended and merged. With the whirring of several gears and several electrical currents, the rods broadened and the tip expanded considerably. Many parts simultaneously clanked and stopped expanding. The mechanism soon began to fold up compactly and the surface of the arm closed snugly over it. In his hand he held a one ton double headed hammer approximately three feet from the bottom to the top of the hammer. Severl kids who hadn't seen the hammer or it incarnation before flinched backwards.

Maddox stood perfectly still in a menacing battle stance wielding his battle hammer and staring right at the red team awaiting the sound of the horn.

-I narrowed my eyes thought as one of the Aphrodite irls commented on my suggestion saying that I would bhould fine and that I should just carry another Hermes kid with me. The only problem I had with that proposal was that Athena's cabin was on the other team, and they had probably already guessed that my team would send my cabin in to go for the flag. I was almost positive that the Athenas had something planned something exactly for the Hermes. The rings on my fiIngers suited impatiently, and I looked up quickly and then back down again holding out my hand and catching the the soft feathery something that a friend of mine had dropped from above. Pocketing the item, I decided to examine whatever it was during the game if I had time, or after it, because he wouldn't have given it to me if he didn't think it was important.

A few moments later I heard some talking to the left of me, and turned to behold Chiron in his full horse form. I watched as he announced the beginning of capture the flag, which would begin in a few minutes, and then turned quickly and grabbed two extras from their respected groups, one Apollo and one Demeter. When I actually got a good look at the two campers, I recognized the Apollo kid as Jacob Sol, and the Demeter as Rebecca Smith, both of them had been at camp for at least two years, so they had some experience under their belts.

"I need your help, if you want to. I have a mini plan in my head, and it involves more running than running sneaking if that's okay with you guys." I said with slight humorous sarcasm, causing them to snicker slightly. After the laughter, I continued, saying " Okay so Rebecca, I'm going to need your agriculture abilities, and see if you can make some sort of bread or something with lots of fiber, if you know what I mean... prunes actually, that would be good." Rebecca nodded, and then set to work growing the prunes, and while she did that I turned to Jacob. " I'm gonna need your arm more than your bow, because it will be your job to get those prunes into those guards mouths." Rebecca finished the growing, and together we all set off walking and hid in a thick grove of trees waiting for the game to begin. This was gonna be fun.

I would join this in a heartbeat if I wasn't so addicted to the Percy Jackson RP series I do on a different site. well...that and I prefer hades to any other major god or hecate for a minor. I will still think it over see if I can get out of the snare the other RP has me in.

(edit sry didnt realize this was started I only read the first page.)

Ariala

Ariala sighed a bit thinking. Was she really cut out for fighting to get the flag. She was really new here and hadn't really played this before. "I don't know what I'm doing" she muttered before deciding to go see if she could help guard the flag. Turning she ran off in that direction and saw Jared and Jayson she believed their names were. "H-Hi" she said shyly. "I'm Ariala. I... w-well I don't have much experience with this game so do you think I could stay back here and guard the flag with you guys?"

Forest, near Red flag

Not too long before Jared had started conversation with Jayson, a young girl approached the two of them. At first Jared thought she was an enemy, and quickly set his hand upon his quiver ready to draw an arrow. But as she got closer, Jared realized she was on his own team, she was obviously a Demeter child, Jared could tell by the staff in her hand. Before long she got up in front of the two older kids. "H-hi" she stuttered, "I'm Aralia, I... w-well, I don't have much experience with this game so do you think I could stay back here and guard the flag with you guys?" she said, timidly. "Sorry, rules say only two guards are allowed at the flag." Jared explained to the girl, taking his hand from his arrow. "You're a Demeter, right? You should be helping the Apollos through the forest." Jared suggested. But he noticed how young she was, obviously she felt a bit intimidated by the Apollo kids, and they, being occasionally too proud as it were, would probably never let a little kid lead them through the forest. She was lucky, though, nowadays not many kids could be lucky enough to be claimed at thirteen. Something was happening, Jared didn't know what, and all the gods were taking significantly longer to claim their Demigod children.

He didn't really know what to do with the kid. She was a Demeter so she couldn't get lost here, but she couldn't stay and guard the flag either. She probably couldn't lead the Apollos either, being as proud as they sometimes were. "The bell is about to ring, kidd-o, you better find a position." Jared said. "If you don't know what to do, you can always sit this one out. The first match can be a bit awkward." Jared offered. He looked in the distance too, awaiting for the sound of the bell.

Mallory Miller
Demeter Cabin
Camp Half-Blood, Capture The Flag

Mallory listened to the instructions that were being given out to the members of her team. She had to say, these people knew what they were doing. Not that she figured they wouldn't. Most of these kids had been there longer than she had. She had been there, what, a year now? Perhaps getting close to two years. She started losing track a while ago. She stopped paying attention. The days and nights weren't separate for her. It was all one big night for her. One big space in time. Honestly, she wished that she could just. . . get away from that place.

As the demigods who were giving orders continued doing just that, she realized just how utterly confused she was. She understood and memorized what each camper was suppose to do, only matching orders with faces, but something puzzled her. She hadn't heard a word about the Demeter kids yet. She just continued to listen, and finally got somewhat of an idea of what she was suppose to do.

She heard the orders that they were to begin in five minutes, and it was now time for them to get to their positions. Letting out a sigh, she watched as everyone began moving to their rightful places, standing completely still for a minute or two, just observing where everyone was running to. She never did much in camp games anyway, so it wasn't very likely that many would notice her absence. At the same time, she didn't want to just disappear, that would be rude, and it might likely get her in trouble.

Something caught her eye after a moment, right before she went to move along. A member of her cabin, Ariala, was following after two children from their team. She couldn't remember their names, but she knew they were going to guard the flag. No more than two could do that job, if she remembered correctly, and Ariala would make a third.

No need to let her wander on her own. I'm of no use here anyway.

Mallory started to walk quickly, wanting to reach her before the game started. There couldn't be a whole lot of time left before that point, and it would really screw with their team if they weren't even near ready by then. She heard what one of the boys said to the girl, confirming her thought on the flag rule. Ariala was new, so she probably didn't know most of this. Then again, she wasn't all too aware of the aspects of the game either.

As soon as the boy stopped talking, Mallory stopped just behind Ariala and grabbed her arm. She took in a deep breath through her nose and swallowed, trying to make her mouth less dry. She nodded and smiled at the two boys before whispering to Ariala,

"Just follow me."

Before any of them had a chance to speak back to her, she turned and pulled lightly on the girl's arm.

Now what do we do? she thought to herself as they walked back a little ways. What were they suppose to do? She knew they had said something about them, but what was it? They knew this forest better than anyone. Were they suppose to be guides? She couldn't remember.

Just wing it, I guess. Look through the forest and keep an eye out for the other team...or...something.

Alex Newton
The Forest

When I talked to Maddox of the Hephaestus cabin, he gave me some important advice, that was actually pretty obvious anyways. "Hey! Al! Warn your cabin to not give in to the Aphrodite girls!"

"Sure, X... See ya in the game." I muttered, and walked away.

I geared up, putting the armor on. I felt... comfortable, in this armor, as I traced a finger on the symbol of Ares, painted in black on my armor. I felt at ease, I felt calm. And feeling calm was quite an achievement for a Son of Ares. I picked up a helmet, feeling it in my arms, weighing it... then shook my head, and put it down. No helmet for me.

I gazed back and saw Benjamin still struggling to put his armor on. I sighed, shaking my head. He was hopeless. Sometimes, I even doubted whether he was a son of Ares or not. I helped him put his armor on, then said, "Look sharp, Benjy!" He gave me a small smile, and nodded. "You're gonna be protecting the flag! You need to look intimidating!" I said, trying to cheer him up. Looking at his expression, I think I made him even more nervous.

I looked at all of my other buddies from the cabin. Time to brief em. I clapped my hands, and yelled at the top of my voice, "Hey, guys, listen!" When nobody listened, I sighed. Only one way to get their attention, I guess. I punched the nearest kid to me, and he waddled around, dazed. Everybody's head turned to me, and I was secretly glad that I got their attention.

"Allllright everyone, we gotta get ready for the game. A few simple instructions though. Number one, stay away from all girls, specially of the Aphrodite cabin. Number 2, if you see any fast kids of the Hermes cabin, punch em in the face, and knock em out on the spot." I said. A crude way to explain it, but yeah, that's the only way all of them listened. They roared and waved their weapons in the air when I finished my speech.

I heard the horn, and Chiron announce that we had about 5 minutes. Better get started then. I saw Josh run off into the forest with his team, time to get my team ready as well. "Alright, my brothers and sisters... head over to the creek, behind me, and get ready to kick some demigod butt!" I gave a grin, and charged into the forest, with the others roaring behind me. I stood near the red flag, and in the distance, I heard the horn blow. The game, it had begun.

(OOC: The game has begun! Post about initiating your plans! 8D)

Camp Half-Blood
Forest

Jared looked behind the thirteen year old Demeter and saw another Demigod approaching. She was a Demeter too, was everyone now coming for a spot as a guard? It seemed not, this Demeter was far older and more experienced. She approached the little girl and nodded to the two boys before tugging her sister's arm away. Both Demeter kids seemed clueless at what to do, so Jared shouted after them. "Hey, you should probably help guide the Apollos through the forest. Try to gather some herbs too, for medicine. And make some traps if you could." he shouted as the two slipped off into the forest.

Not ten seconds later, the bell rang with a huge gong. The games had begun. Jared could hear a large group of Demigods-probably Ares kids-shout in the distance. He and Jayson had a lot to prepare for. He grinned. "Let the games begin." as he put a hand on his quiver of arrows. He wondered if he would see his sister Luna anytime soon. Since they didn't know each other well, it felt a little awkward that their first real meeting was in Capture the flag, on opposite teams.
Jared also wondered about the dog he'd seen in his cabin earlier that morning. It was a little large for a dog, but Jared didn't think it was a wolf. Who keeps a wolf for a pet? Hopefully not his sister. Jared wouldn't feel too comfortable living with a wolf. But he liked dogs, so he had no problem keeping one around. He'd heard that kids could keep pets if they wanted to, also depending on what cabin they were in. Some weren't allowed pets. This was probably Luna's pet.

Still nobody to attempt to get the flag. This was getting rather boring, but Jared couldn't play games, he had to stay alert. He pinched himself on the right arm to keep himself so. Despite the plan, Jared was half-certain that they would lose. Despite having Aphrodite and Hermes, Ares was always a nice addition, since they were raw attacking units. They were also bulky, allowing them to take kits before going down. But Jared was well prepared, his bronze arrows just itching to be driven through flesh.

The game was about to begin and Evan was already scrambling to his position. He had decided that he would also be grabbing a flag. He was fast anyway, so he doubted that he would bring the other kid from the Hermes Cabin down and he was excited to run with John.

John was known to be one of the fastest members of the Hermes Cabin. Evan didn't know much about him besides the rumors. He seemed like a person Evan could work with, but the only problem he really had with him was that they way he carried himself. The way he carried himself made him seem cocky.

A Demeter and an Apollo demigod were also on this team. He didn't know their names. Evan had only seen them around. From the few glimpses he ever had of them, Evan deduced that they were the types of people who faded in the background unnoticed.

"I need your help, if you want to. I have a mini plan in my head, and it involves more running than running sneaking if that's okay with you guys." John said with slight humorous sarcasm, causing them to snicker slightly. After the laughter, he continued saying, "Okay so Rebecca, I'm going to need your agriculture abilities, and see if you can make some sort of bread or something with lots of fiber, if you know what I mean... prunes actually, that would be good." Rebecca nodded and then set to work growing the prunes. While she did that He turned to Jacob. "I'm gonna need your arm more than your bow, because it will be your job to get those prunes into those guards mouths."

Evan seemed completely forgotten, but he didn't really mind. He doubted he would be able to do much with what John was planning anyway. Evan had never seen what a Demeter demigod could do with plants. It was breathtaking. The ground began to crack and shoots started to come up from the ground. It was like watching a movie. After the growing was done, they had decided to hide into the trees until the start of the game.

A horn had echoed in the distanced.

Gwen was feeling pumped. Though not a very excitable person, she wasn't one to blame. After all, she had been working on a plan--undoubtedly great, she says to herself--and she had the perfect person to initiate it with. Looking to the right, Emil was yawning heavily. To other people, it might have meant that Emil was ready to drop from whatever exhaustion has been bothering him, but Gwen knew better. This was as close as he can get to being excited, and Gwen was ready to take advantage of that. She could barely kept her feet still as she waited for the horn to blow. And then it did.

Gwen reached for Emil's hand and walked, very quickly, into the depths of the forest.

Joshua Alden Emeress
Camp Half-Blood Forest

Josh held his sword tight and tapped his fingers off his hidden blade. The horn blew and Josh jumped up onto the outcropping and rose his sword towards the creek.

"Ares!, Dionysus! Charge the dreek now!" In response to the horns blow.

"Flag guards into position! A2 prepare for Alexs signal! Hephaestus gaurd, prepare the blockades, A1 and Hephaestus offense, initiate plan Athenas forged arrow!" Josh had only come up with the name in that minute but it sounded good and the others would know what it meant.

In response the offensive force charged the creek, the guards assumed their positions, the hephaestus began to bring barricades up and his fellow Athenas stood behind the defensive line, hiding, ready to be called in when needed.

All that was left was for A1 to begin.

Josh jumped for the outcropping and landed before his group of demigods.

"Blessing of Athena be with me..." Josh muttered. He felt a slight power fill him, like his intelegence was bolstered.

"Today my friends, we fight to withstand the rights of our cabins, wether the battle is something as small as a game of capture the flag or something as huge as a battle with the titans, we will fight for honour and we, will, WIN!" Josh raised his sword into the air and the majority of the crowd cheered in response.

"Now we move!" Josh said as he led A1 around the outskirts of the forest in order to silently move towards the flag.

Jayson had caught the boy's name. Jared Angelo, he called himself. Jayson nodded and followed him flag, giggling as he nearly fell into the stream. He noticed that his strength and feeling of overconfidence started to fade as the darkness of the forest deepen around him. His wide grin subsided to a look of no particularly strong emotion.

Jayson and Jared had decided that they would stand back to back, sort-to-speak. It made sense, this was the best way to face all directions at once. Though Jayson suspected that the quickest and easiest route would be the most heavily assaulted, as logic dictates. Then, waiting, waiting, and yet more waiting. Jayson, whose bow had already been in hand, lowered it in his boredom. Just how long would he be waiting? It's been awhile since he last played CTF, so he had forgotten just how long these games could take. How long will I be waiting? Jayson asked himself again. Here in this forest, this dark forest. Jayson thought, shaking his head at the notion.

As he waited, two Demeter girls approached him and Jared. Jayson chose not to speak, though. He was still contemplating his waiting.

Finally, he heard a large group off in the distance. A horn blew. His lips spread into an outright smile. "Let'd do this." he said, raising his bow once again. This was his chance. For the first time in who-cares-how-long, Jayson would be shooting some moving targets. Though his delight was soon broken, as still nobody attempted to get the flag. Once again, he was waiting. Once again, he was waiting in this big, dark forest. Boredom overtook the Apollo boy again.

To break the silence of waiting, Jayson let a sigh escape his breath. "See anything yet, Jared?" He asked, not turning to see him. He already knew what the answer would be, but he just wanted to strike up a conversation.

Hmm, Jared and Jayson? Those names sound way too similar to me. I'm going to have to find another name for him. Jayson decided, somewhat impishly, a small smirk meeting his lips.

(Sorry first, I think this may be a bit bunnyish, if it is please let me know so I can change it.)

-As we waited for the horn to sound, a lone thought found its way into my head, and expanded, and when I grasped the meaning of it, I face palmed myself. "The other Hermes kid!" I whispered harshly to myself. How could I have forgotten my other runner? Both Jake(nickname) and Rebecca had heard my mini rant, and looked stared at me with suspicion to which I sighed and rose slowly.-

"I forgot someone... you guys stay here, we should still have like a minute and a half before that horn, so I'm gonna go back and get Evan. I won't be long!" I said, already sprinting to the starting area, dodging trees and hopping over roots and patches of poison ivy. When I got back, there were still a few people who had not taken their positions, and looking around, there were still a few who didn't quite know what they were doing. Among the few, I saw Evan and ran up to him without stopping when I reached him, and instead was jogging in place.

"Dude, come on, the games about to start! We only have like 10 seconds! Sorry about leaving you before, but we gotta go!" I ran off in the direction I had come from, stopping to turn and motion him to follow. Inside my head I was still counting the seconds left in my head. "6...5...4...3...2...1!" I reached the hiding place, and motion Jake and Rebecca to start running and I followed, turning back again to see if Evan had followed, and he had only a few paces behind me but not breathing hard or anything like the other campers, he seemed more relaxed with it, kinda like me.

The silence was incredibly boring. The only thing that broke it was the sound of the horn. "Finally!" Jared complained. The darkness of the forest giving him strength. He drew and arrow from his quiver and readied it on his bow. He lifted his bow up, and could hear the Apollo kid, Jayson, do the same. Unfortunately, the silence seeped in soon after, and both kids lowered their bows in boredom. Funny enough, Jayson still hadn't answered Jared's question, but never mind. He was probably focusing on the task at hand...if there was any task at all, Jared thought as he looked into the darkness. The Athenas would probably lead a team quietly into the forest to steal the flag. Jared was facing the flag, while Jayson was facing the forest. Still nobody came. "Feeling the slightest feeling of boredom?" Jared asked, although it was a rhetorical question.

A few moments later, Jayson said "See anything yet, Jared?" with a sigh of boredom. "I was about to ask you the same question." Jared mused. "They're probably trying to slip in unnoticed with a bunch of Athenas." Jared said. Frankly, he though certain Athenas could really be know-it-alls if they wanted to, often forgetting that they, like everyone else, have ADHD or Dyslexia. They were like the brains of the camp. But since there had never been children of Athena 'till now, Jared wondered what that made Luna and he. Were they like the opposite of the Apollo cabin? Jared figured he and the Demeters might not get along once they discovered he and his sister liked killing animals for sport. Speaking of his sister, he wondered when-or if-she might show up. He was expecting a good showdown between them. He also wondered how the Aphrodites were doing for some reason, had they already managed to capture a few Hephaestus or Ares kids for their team? Hopefully so. Frankly, Jared ow wished he was out there, patrolling the forest for the stealth group of Athenas heading for the flag. Maybe he might even come across his sister. Apart from the Demeters, Jared figured he knew the forest well. He'd come here countless times for hunting, and the forest was initially the area that hunting took place at, so it was no surprise that the Artemis kids would know it well.

After what seemed like an hour of thinking of one thing after another, Jared chuckled slightly. "Man, you'd think a stealth team of Athenas might get here a little faster." Jared joked. Although he secretly wished they would. Jared didn't really care whether or not the Red team won, he really just wanted some fun.

"Man, you'd think a stealth team of Athenas might get here a little faster." Jared said jokingly. Jayson chuckled slightly. "Yeah, I know what you mean." Jayson replied. The two have been waiting a long time, at least what seemed like a long time. Too long, thought Jayson. He was constantly twitching his fingers, clenching and then unwrapping fists, just to have something to do. It wasn't long until these movements grew to the point where the Apollo didn't even have to think about what he was doing anymore. It was all so boring.

The Blue Team had even worn thin Jayson's feeling of anticipation, the anxiety that they could be coming at any moment. Now Jayson thought that nobody would even make a move on the flag. Maybe the entire Blue Team was on defense and was determined to take out every single potential flag-thief before even making an advancement on the Red Flag. That would be impossible though, any one, especially the stealthy Hermes, with half of a brain would hang back in the shadows if it was clear that they had no chance of getting through Blue Team defenses.

"What's keeping them?" Jayson rhetorically asked, once again for the sake of hearing a voice.

It was a few moments later that Jayson had remembered that he was still trying to find Jared a nickname. "Jared," Jayson thought out loud, "if Apollo and Artemis were twins, and we're sons of either one, does that technically make us half-cousins or something?"

Suddenly, a strange feeling overcame Jared, it was as if all the fun had been seeped out of shooting people. All the anxiety and nervousness of knowing someone was coming disappeared. "What's keeping them?" Jayson said behind him, although neither boy turned to look at each other. Jared knew it was a rhetorical question so he didn't answer, although if it was a real question Jared would probably have answered "Maybe they're messing with us." although he highly doubted it. Athenas were the brains of the camp, so to speak, but they weren't sneaky like the Hermes kids. They even had trouble telling a lie, Jared thought. He was a pretty good liar, he thought. The main trick was to plan your lies before the situation arises. Examine all possibilities, try to predict what the other person might say and then have a lie ready for it. It was easy, Jared had a lie equipped for any situation, if it should arise, that is.

"Jared," Jayson broke the silence. "if Apollo and Artemis were twins, and we're sons of either one, does that technically make us half-cousins or something?" he asked. "Well, technically, all of the gods are relatives, we're all cousins. But yeah, I suppose we have a closer relation than the rest of 'em. Funny enough, though, it's only me and my sister Luna in the Artemis Cabin. Chiron said our mom felt guilty about conceiving us, being a virgin goddess, so we weren't claimed until we were sixteen." Jared said. "By the way, my sister is on the Red team." Jared grinned.

Suddenly, movement! Jared immediately raised his bow to where he figured the sound was coming from. Then, from behind a tree, came...a rabbit? "Aw, great, one sign of movement and it's a rabbit." Jared sighed. But he kept his bow up anyway, trying to get a good aim. Then, he shot. And bam, the rabbit was dead. "What?" Jared chuckled slightly. "Hunting is awesome."

(Seriously, guys, there's getting less and less to read about. Let's get sum action already :P)

(OOC: What Wymsical said.)

Gwen walked quite quickly, under branches, over gray-tipped grasses, through late morning dews. She wasn't quite running, though she was close. In a sense, there's no point in running while in this phase of Capture The Flag, anyway. But she was so pumped that she needed to channel all that excitement into something--for example, walking very quickly.

Finally, after smacking back a tall hedge, Gwen reached a clearing in the forest. It was particularly beautiful--new leaves were sprouting from the branches, some soon-to-bloom buds encased in dripping dews, and the grass swayed gently in the wind. Satisfied for a reason she did not quite know herself, Gwen looked around and found that there was no signs of another human being around her. Emil, being said human being, was nowhere in sight.

"Damn," Gwen mumbled under her breath. "Emil, Emil, Emil..."

A rustle.

Gwen turned around, facing where the rustle was coming from, and found a tall, muscular camper, carrying what looked like a broad axe--except that it was enormous. Just the length of the blade was equal to the length of Gwen's entire torso. The double tips gleamed in the filtering sunlight, and its reflection cast a shine on the wielder's face--particularly the mouth, which was twitched up in a proud smile.

"What have we here, a lost Aphrodite?" the camper said. Looking from his physique, he must have been an Ares. Just Gwen's luck. Ares demigods were the easiest to charmspeak, not to mention the most rewarding.

"Hi there, hotshot. Mind showing me the way to, say, your flag?" Gwen started.

The Ares demigod smiled. "Seems like you've underestimated my intelligence there, sweet. I might not look it, but I'm pretty good at overriding that there charmspeaking of yours."

Ugh, Gwen thought to herself. Not good. Keep at it or retreat...?

"This forest...it's so dense. It sort of scares me, you know...? Now what's worse than a helpless girl lost in a forest, all by her lonesome? Won't you help me? Pretty please?" Gwen said to the Ares boy in quick succession, leaving no space for his logic to retaliate.

Unfortunately, it did.

"Sorry, m'lady. But my brothers will have my head if I fall for that, so I won't. Now then," the Ares demigod said, getting into fighting stance, "Better draw out that there pretty rapier of yours."

Gwen's face didn't show fear. In fact, if anything, it was amusement. She was smiling quite cockily, and was clearly above herself. "Why would I need to draw out my rapier, again? There are four Apollos ready to put you out of commission right behind you, you know?"

"What the--" The Ares boy turned around, looking for the deadly archers and preparing to block the arrows with his broad axe.

Neither existed.

But it gave Gwen just enough time to run away from him, and she quickly hid above a tree--luckily, she was a good climber--and saw the flustered Ares boy realizing that the so-called "Apollos" were a facade. Rage slowly materializing in his face, he took quick strides in Gwen's direction, but he headed straight out of the clearing, while Gwen was actually just on the edge, safely squatting on the highest branch of a tree.

This was pretty clever, Gwen told herself, but she couldn't credit herself with it. It was a Demeter girl she knew that kept saying "Use trees to your advantage. If you're a good climber then you're a good hider. When people are searching for something, they rarely look up."

In any case, Gwen kept still in her position for about ten minutes, until she was sure the Ares boy was gone. She climbed down and jumped off the lowest branch and onto the ground. Phew, she thought, that was close.

Then she set out to find Emil--and to beat the daylight straight out of him.
