[PokeCommunity.com] Pesky status conditions... in Mystery Dungeon

The status conditions sleep, paralysis, burn, poison, freeze, confusion, infatuation and even the less common ones exist in the Mystery Dungeon games too, but the different play style gives them a completely different feel, sleeping Pokémon can even be found naturally. So tell me, what do you think about how the status ailments were translated to a dungeon style? Which ones are your favorites? Which ones do you hate most?

For the most part I think PMD has got the status ailments down pretty well. I actually like how you can find sleeping Pokémon just laying about the dungeon. It makes the condition seem a bit more natural. I think burn, paralysis and poison were all implemented pretty well too. I've definitely made use of burn in a confrontation or two.

I have to say that I've never really encountered infatuation in the games though.

I'd rather have seen burn and poison to do a set percentage of the max HP of damage, like in the main series. Poison does a lot of damage in the first part of the game, but later the natural regeneration is higher than the received damage, so it doesn't matter at all. I feel this could have been balanced better.

I disagree. I think I like this a lot better, because it makes it seem a bit more natural. It makes sense that as a Pokémon gets stronger, especially in a world without human remedies, that it would build up an immunity in a sense to poisoning, and that this kind of condition would really only be a threat to low level Pokémon.

I think they're all implemented pretty well except for Confusion! This is just a personal gripe of mine so don't they make me too seriously but man, the amount of times I've whited/blacked out in a dungeon because of constantly missing or attacking my partner etc. is just so frustrating! Of course it makes perfect sense and I don't think it should be changed but I used to hate it, lol.

(I've never played Gates to Infinity so I don't know if it was changed in that)

Hmm, I haven't looked at it that way, but is does seem to make some kind of sense. Nevertheless encountering Nidoran in early dungeons can easily be fatal when you get struck by their Poison Point, which had made me constantly bring a pecha scarf along, which took another spot in my inventory.

I still hate confusion >:( it's even worse in PMD! I'm with Turkish here I honestly think they suck and made me black out in a dungeon 992818940 times!

But yeah the confusion, sleep, burn in PMD are implemented very well, they should just keep it like it is.

omg i feel your pain!! if you thought confusion was annoying in the main series become confused in pmd and you'll want to throw the game out the window. watching them miss or walk the other direction is literally painful to watch. especially if it happens in a monster house forget it lol

I hate immobilize (if it was used on me). Sleep is the most useless one, while paralysis can come in handy along an OHKO move if you're in a Monster House. ^_^

Immobilize it just makes you more vulnerable if you can't move especially monster house. Whiffler can be annoying or handy it makes all attack misses even non-accurate checker like aerial ace and faint attack misses regardless their accuracy is -. Terrified not most handy if your the lead pokemon and handy on dungeon pokemon to flee out. Cross-eye is always most troublesome of vision treating your allies and enemies as substitute which you can't tell if your attacking an enemy or friend it most annoying if it happen to you and Blinker it just makes you blind and treat friends as were enemies, but thankfully it only occurs on seeds which is handy to toss at enemy nearby.

The status ailments work well in Mystery Dungeon, they can just be irritating as per. The most annoying is definitely confusion, hitting in every direction other than the target can get quite tedious.

Poison was also quite annoying, I remember some of the times I failed some explorations since I died to poison.

I think the status conditions of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon are unique, always loved them! They can be very annoying I know, but I really like them! Poison was a bit annoying for me, always trying to get rid of that thing :/
Let me tell you something, those orbs that give paralysis or other status conditions are soooo good in Monster Houses! If I didn't have them, I would lose many times!
The status that I must hate is confusion! I know you can get rid of confusion by walking around but the problem is when you or your partner are confused and you are battling agains another Pokémon ... the partner can hit you, you can hit your partner .... ufff, so annoying :/

The Mystery Dungeon incarnations of status considtions are definitely an interesting twist when compared to the main series. That being said, I would say that when not prepared for, poison and burn will be quick to put an end to your expedition. Sleep and Paralysis aren't too bad, though it becomes a completely different story when you're in a monster house. Confusion is the one I dread the most as it's unpredictability can lead to all sorts of trouble.
