I wonder if including Kanto in gen 2 and the remakes is the only thing that makes so many people like the games. I mean, I don't really hear people talking much about how it takes forever to train in those games, because the level balancing is just so off, or the fact that there's not much to explore in Kanto, anyway. Not saying that the games are bad, I like them as well, but just splashing in another region isn't really all that's needed. It needs to be populated as well, so it actually feels like more game and not just more walking.

Yeah, that was part of why I didn't care for Kanto in Generation II, as everything was so weak. But I know people do like Johto on its own, as there are a lot of areas in that region, so maybe even without Kanto they still would have respected the games.

(Also, I just realized that i've tied Peitharchia for the highest amount of posts in this thread.)

As one that generally didn't care for GSC, at least not today, I did like HGSS. It had some opponents that could prove to be difficult, and there's the post-game, which is right up there with that of B2W2 for the most interesting amount of content.

But I don't think HGSS had as great variety as some of the newer games, which is something i've liked them for.

I've always said that if HG/SS had Emerald's version of the Battle Frontier, it would be my favorite game, hands down. Like it's been pointed out, they definitely aren't the strongest storyline wise, but it was all the little things like the Pokeathlon, the Follow Me feature, the GB Sounds, etc. that made me want to come back to play.

I don't really make much use out of Emerald's frontier anymore. As I might have said before, part of that is because I prefer to play on more convenient technology. Lame excuse but yeah. I remember liking the Battle Arcade in Platinum, that was fun for one.

A new Super Mystery Dungeon trailer showcased:
Spoiler:

Playable Pokemon are Pikachu, Riolu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie. Japanese release date revealed to be September 17th.

Also, it seems like there'll be a lot of Legendaries appearing in the game.

Okay, that Super Mystery Dungeon trailer actually looks promising. If we do get to use all the Pokémon, it'll surely do us more than Gates to Infinity did.

In Generation III, Magneton was only used because of Skarmory (and to a lesser extent Forretress), but it at least had decent Special Attack going for it, if literally nothing else. It did get a buff in Generation IV in the form of an evolution, which trades a bit of Speed for more defenses and Special Attack.

I wish I had the capability to really try out Trick Room, I know I did with a Dusclops in an Alpha Sapphire Wonderlocke near the end of the game, but I haven't tried it in anything too serious.

Ah yes so many Pokemon that can work wonders under Trick Room. Reuniclus and Escavalier being total powerhouses, and not to forget Mega Slowbro with its amazing tanking abilities. 5th Gen in general really cared about the move for some reason given all the mainly slow Pokemon that generation introduced.

If I remembered Trick Room was a thing I probably would've used more Pokémon that would benefit from it.

Trying to make a competitive team for in-game is a bit of a fail to be honest.

If you throw as much coverage as you can, to avoid being walled. You're good to go.

~Battle Frontier bro~

That's basically it, make sure you can hit literally every type of Pokémon with 2x damage (save for Eelektross and the pre-Gen VI Dark/Ghosts) with decent Pokémon, you're mostly set.

I always hate how rigged those trainers in the Battle Maison (and the Battle Institute) get. Their strategies always scare me, as well as surprise moves they may have, some of which I'd never expect.

I recall running into a Carvanha with Speed Boost once. That was very scary given it had like really good coverage with STABs + Ice Fang. There have also been some other shockers I came across, but I know how much the opponents love to check your team and such.
