Blaze in the Night

I realize this is already over, but I want to submit all the same!

Fire, in a way, is majestic energy.
It burn's and burn's forever more, it hold's much mystery.
It can be feared, it can save lives, it can be ignored.
Fire is a weapon that's much stronger than a sword.
If you were to set a blaze, many houses it would raze,
it would kill, and it would maim, but it's fire all the same.
In the night, fire can't hide, it gives a glow, it still seeps fright,
so when you can, use all your might, to avoid a blaze in the night.

People just aren't paying attention to it lately.

Hello to all my lovelies in the Poetry subforum! The mod team (and TJgamer was made aware too) have talked things over, and we have something planned to get new activity into this subforum.

This means, however, that Poem of the Week 5 will be ending it's long long run. Maybe that's a good thing, though.

The new thing isn't quite ready yet, so this thread will remain open until then for any last last minute entries.

If there are any questions or concerns about this, you can PM either bobandbill or me.

If this is going to be PoTW's last hurrah, I'd quite like to give it a shot (if that's okay?).

By the Campfire Light

Around the campfire,
We sang.
Dancing and laughter,
Joy rang.

And beside me,
There's a boy.
I like him.
His smile is coy.

Touching my finger,
He moves close.
My heart flutters,
As the fire glows.

His arm around me now,
And it just feels so right.
Though darkness is behind me,
I thank our blaze in the night.

Though it's way late and I have no idea what's going on with this, I'd like to chuck one out too, for precisely the same reason. This is one I wrote in my Maths exam today, with this theme in mind. It didn't really have a title, but I think I'll go with . . .

Crimson Dancer

Spoiler:

Someone is dancing,
A vivacious delight.
A flash of red on black lace,
A blaze in the night.

She leaps, twists and flies,
A magical dance.
The moment is now,
An infinite chance.

She steps, and you falter,
Breath caught in your chest.
You don't know what this is
But you know it's the best.

You watch, lost in time,
As the dance starts anew.
Though you're out of her sight,
She dances for you.

The light from without
And the light from within
Grow bright as you watch her
Flow, leap and spin.

Something magical's here
And you know it feels right.
But as you watch, it's the end
Of your blaze in the night.

It does make me feel a little bad about the PotW contest being cancelled. But hey, maybe new ideas will arise.

Crimson Rain

The clouds whisper soft sorrows
Their tears cascading in a drizzle
Late afternoon and the sun sinks
Turning deep orange
My excitement grows
Moments until it happens
And moments later, it's gone
I beg and plead for other to join
To behold the marvels
The wonders of the universe
Half the sun has disappeared now
Its surface turning red
Few ever see this spectacle
Too caught up in their past or their future
No one takes the time to appreciate right now
This gift
That is why they call it the present
Only the tip of the sun remains
The moon casting a reflective yellow-orange light on the scene
I count down
3...2...1...
The sun fades
The sky lit up
Like fire unto a lantern
Bathing the world in its unnatural crimson glaze
The rain becomes as fire
Warm and pleasant
Not searing or painful
I sigh
No one will know of this
Of this moment
When all the beauty of our world is unleashed
During the Fiery Rain
The moon is overhead now
No longer orange
But a pale white
The sun is gone
Never to be seen again
Swallowed by the Darkness
