An article featuring the community's top 5 favourite (complete) hacks in descending order. We can do a voting/nomination thread for a few weeks to find out which ones they are!

I think this could also work as a video so if anyone (Achromatic) is up for doing it for PC's channel we could feature that as well.

I like the concept, but I'm confident that a voting/nomination thread is probably not the best immediate course of action. I feel like these sorts of things need a clear criteria on how you'd judge them. The traditional criteria in HOTY would be uninteresting and boring to see again. Perhaps if you added more subjective and interesting criteria such as historical significance to the scene, completeness and even groundbreaking aspects introduced for the first time in the generation.

I feel like if we kept the voting pole and nomination system with the end results being judged based on current features, we'd basically be dismissing some great and famous hacks created throughout the years. Hacks like ShinyGold, Rijon Adventures, Genesis, and even Quartz to a degree!

From an article like this, I'd rather see your subjective views on the greatest hacks PC has to offer. I'd rather see what hacks influenced the writer's experiences than see something which represents the most popular hacks on PC. Maybe these can be separate articles. I do think that "Top 5 Lists" are extremely popular and definitely will be well received, however the goals and objective of your top 5 list should be based on more than solely popularity among currently active users. Some levels of subjectivity would make sense, because your list can't be absolute anyways :)

I'm expecting a community vote to not be too different than me, for example, picking the Top 5. But I guess it could be done like that and we can take Hack of the Year winners and popular threads into consideration. Glazed, for example, would very likely be in the Top 5.

Shiny Gold definitely deserves a shout-out, but as an incomplete remake of Gold I wouldn't see it in the Top 5, personally. It's definitely one of the most famous hacks, though.

Those were 2015's "active" hacks, and most of them aren't complete. I'm thinking more like top hacks of all time, hacks that fans should definitely play if they haven't yet. Hacks like Glazed and Light Platinum come to mind. But I understand if you don't like the idea or timing of such a video especially since the top 5 hacks of 2015 video is somewhat recent.

I personally don't see any of the top 2015 ones making it to the Top 5 we're looking for. Maybe two of them, but Gaia is very good but still incomplete, and Adventure Red has a lot of content and is very popular but still incomplete and not as polished as other popular, complete hacks.

People don't have the hindsight that we have of previous hacks though mate. I 100% guarantee you Adventure Red will be in a top 5 if it was voted for right now in a poll.

The top 5 don't necessarily have to be decided by a poll, but there could still be a thread for nominations. I'd like for the community to be involved and not just a group of people deciding the "top 5 hacks of all time" by themselves, but at the same time a lot of the members would likely just vote for what's popular right now. So we could try to do a bit of both.

I don't feel like either are a good idea, or anything really. But if you really feel like you want to do a 'pc top 5' then it's up to you.

If you do want the community to be involved then I'd say the best compromise is to allow members to nominate/name notable hacks, and then you can decide which of those should be featured in this list. If someone disagrees, well, that's what the comments on articles feature is for. :V

Alternatively, limit it to older hacks. Top 5 historical hacks, with some reason why they're notable and what made them so great in their day (and now).

I like the "historical" aspect of it, or creating the guideline that the hack had to be before a certain year. Personally, I think that it would be cool if the Top 5 wasn't just a Top 5 overall aspect - as those have been done time and time again - but what if the Top 5 had ROMs that had a certain element? Like consisting of a certain region or something? I'm not too knowledgeable on the ROM hacks here, but if you turn your Top 5 into one specialized in a certain characteristic or attribute, than I think it would garner more attention than a general Top 5.
