Mandarin North is fully scripted, featuring International Police and Team Rocket! Working on Sunburst Island/Crystal Cave with a proper Mateo cameo and sidequest :)

cant wait to play it, it looks really promising as I love the vintage gbc style. also love the artwork, kudos to whoever the artist is

Sunburst Island - 100% complete!
Before moving on to the next section of the game (Route 55 and Pinkan Island), I'll be taking a break to add a new side area: Rind Island South/Millsweet Camp. This is going to be a Magikarp-centric point of interest where you'll be able to collect Magikarp JUMP forms. To be efficient, I won't get too hung up on the minigames there, yet, but at least get the maps and some scripts done for it.

This side area is north of Mandarin Island North, allowing you to get Magikarp much earlier than the old orange, where it was only attainable en route to Victory Road after the last badge.

I just finished the beta and love the work that you put into it. I'm very much looking forward to this release, everything you've shown looks amazing so far! You are great at this and I hope you know how much the community enjoys your content

Looks amazing! How is the development going? Looking forward to your next update! And I agree with Sharky64

Hello, I took a break for the holidays. Mostly been working on menus this month, fixing the town map and some bugs in regards to the naming menu. I have also overhauled the Pokegear to work solely as a phone.

Buildings on Rind Island have been mapped and added, though I haven't started work on Magikarp forms or Prof. Quackenpoker's sidequest.

Whew! I saw that the original post was 2023 and no game was available. I was worried this was yet another incredible, yet abandoned, game concept.
Imagine my joy when I see you've been active recently.

I'll be waiting for this. I love the Orange Islands and have messed around with thee few available hacks for it, but none have ever got it quite right.
This? This gets my hopes up. Best of luck.

Hey all, progress is smooth~

Mapped Route 55 and Pinkan Island, they have undergone a pretty big transformation!

Spoiler: Map Spoilers

Along with this I have implemented a system that gives purpose to useless berries such as Razz and Pinap, in the form of PokeBlocks.
PokeBlocks are crafted by the Berry Master's grandaughter on Mikan Island. She will require one berry of a specific color to make the PokeBlock, and she won't use berries that have a purpose outside of PokeBlock crafting. There is a 20% chance she will burn the PokeBlock instead, which can also be used to initiate a swarm (Crunchyblock).
PokeBlocks can be used at special Feeders located in a few areas in the game, much like the Safari Zone in Hoenn.

Putting in certain PokeBlocks at these feeders will cause a swarm to appear at your current location.

The following Pokeblocks have been added:
Grassy Block
Fiery Block
Chilly Block
Zappy Block
Lovely Block
CrunchyBlock

...and can be used at the following locations:
Altering Cave
Pinkan Island
Tarroco Island
Metallica Island
Camomile Island

Stantler appearing as a result of using a CrunchyBlock in Altering Cave, a rare Pokemon scarcely seen in the Orange Islands.

This is looking so good. Really appreciate how fleshed out these concepts are. 😁

Super dope! Noticed the inclusion of nature's, will that be optional? The lack of nature's in GSC made the game less of a soft reset grind.
I don't think it will be optional but I could look into adding Mints to change the natures as needed?

Just a follow up to this, I added Mints for every Nature (including the dupes that dont have an item in official games) and they now function correctly. Unlike in newer games where its an unofficial nature change (doesnt actually change Nature), this will actually change the Pokemons Nature permanently.

Ability Capsule (now called ABILITY UP) will work similarly, though I haven't programmed it yet. EDIT: Ability Up works now!

I just finished playing through Orange (absolutely loved), and I am SUPER excited for Island Walker!!

Will HMs still require teaching to a pokemon to be used, like in Orange? Would love to have more free move spots, especially with dive and rock climb being included.

I think the focus will be more on making HMs balanced to where you'd want to use them in battle, while also allowing them to be overwritten by other moves if you want to learn something new.

The required Cut trees have been scripted to be permanently removed once cut down, so after those, Cut is entirely optional. I'm a fan of what I did with Surf in the old orange where it became a water-type Return and may do something similar for other HMs.

I'm a fan of exploration and HM obstacles do add to exploration, so I don't think I will be removing them, just supporting other playstyles by adding some QoL to how they work.
