News: Pokémon Sun & Moon Officially Announced [Summary of news here!]

Just thought I'd throw something out there. 13 hours ago, Pokemon's Facebook page made a post "Who's That Pokemon?" It's obviously Togepi. But! Why Togepi was my first question? Togepi is one of the most important Pokemon anime-wise. Misty carried it for ages, you saw its journey evolving, and then eventually becoming Togekiss. It's important. I haven't seen them post that sort of thing for months (I did a quick check back) and with nothing happening Sun and Moon-wise (everyone is concentrating on Pokken)... do you think that this could mean Togepi's line could possibly get a Mega Evolution in these games? Or is it just random? Honestly it's sort of in the middle of everything. Any content they should be posting would logically be related to Pokken given it just was internationally released. So what's up with that? Random or actually potentially related to the games?

I think it's coincidentally random, but I definitely would be happy to see a Mega Evolution for Togekiss happening if it's the case, because I want to see more new Megas in these games.

Misty's Togepi was never shown to evolve into a Togekiss. It only evolved into a Togetic before she released it so that it can protect the other Togepi.

Probably mixed it up with Dawn having togekiss.

Also misty getting rid of togetic was kind of dumb.

The kingdom was mirage island basically. It had like a millionth chance of appearing, and they got rid of the guy from there. The odds of him getting back were very unlikely....

Anyway, this also probably means nothing, but mega togekiss would be cool.

As Zoroark and ORandAS said, Misty never had Togekiss but Dawn did. I already like Togekiss' normal design so I could imagine the Mega design being hard to pull off perfectly.

That's irrelevant anyways. I was just guessing - I didn't watch the anime then. What I'm saying though is Togepi is important to the anime (relatively at least). They could've chosen any Pokemon. Togekiss would be a perfect Mega Evolution, and reminding people about Togepi NOW would fit in perfectly with the timeline of Sun and Moon (in regards to having to wait a little under a month for information). Just was a thought, is all.

Also another thought came to me in a dream last night. Yokai Watch is super popular in Japan currently - do you feel the games might take elements from Yokai Watch in order to capitalise on that popularity? Maybe design Pokemon similar to Yokai? Or do you think that might be too risky of a step for Pokemon to take? How do you think Yokai Watch's popularity might have an impact upon Sun and Moon?

I am pretty sure Game Freak may have been taking some inspiration from Yo-Kai Watch in regards to elements, but as for seeing Pokemon designs inspired by characters from Yo-Kai Watch, I'd imagine it as a bit of a risk because Pokemon's designs are more simplistic when you look at it.

Not to mention that Sugimori mentioned that he wanted simplier designs for the next generation back in Gen VI.

Going by this, I'm mostly expecting the only real complex designs to be the legendaries and some final evolutions.

Magearna looks anything but simple so I feel like they didn't end up sticking to that "return to simplicity" idea. Only time will tell though. I do hope you're right and the legendaries are the ones with the more complex designs.

On the topic of Yokai watch impacting S/M. . .I definitely think it will. While it doesn't have the same worldwide popularity/pop-culture phenomenon that Pokemon does, I doubt GF will just ignore it as it still immensely popular in Japan. I've been thinking that in response to this, S/M will be a bit more "Japanese" in that regard. Yokai Watch is popular due to all of it's cultural references, etc, so I'm thinking that GF may decide to return to a region based off of Japan much like how gens 1-4 were. The box legendaries could even be based off of Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi, although that may be a bit of a stretch, especially with so much evidence pointing towards a hawaii-based region.

on a side note: yay we're two weeks away from being. . . . 1 week away from corocoro leaks ;_;

Came across these on Tumblr...

Spoiler:

This looks fake, given the edited screenshot of XY's wild encounter scene. However, I think that for a likely fake Pokemon, it's still a cool design.

Spoiler:

Possible Steel-type Eeveelution? It may look legit, but I'm still taking it with a grain of salt.

Both look very fake. The second image... if it were "leaked" by someone official (the Twitter handle wouldn't be a real one) there would be more coverage over it. That and both designs don't really fit into Sugimori's style.

(Also not exactly the most appealing looking Pokemon ever...)

I kind of like the dragon and eevelution, but both are completely fake.

If anything that's "lleaked" so far comes true, I can bet that it will be the grass owl, fire rabbit, and water dolphin thing.

Oui, Masuda tweeted a message saying something about this episode being "more urgent than usual". He could be over-hyping, but how is a show that's already hyper moreso than usual?

I don't know what it's supposed to mean, but maybe it's making us think we might get our first official piece of S/M news even before the next CoroCoro drops. I do feel like they're likely going to reveal something that will likely make me feel disappointed though.

I think they're going to wait till the episode where all three of them appear to announce something.

I'm either expecting this to just be typical pokenchi stuff (like. . a skit or something) or an announcement of an announcement (Like,"Hi, I'm here today to tell you to tune in next week for sun/moon news!)

Something along the lines of the first footage of OrAs they showed?
