Pokémon VR: Game of Chance (IC)

Dash
-> Pallet Town

It was somewhat surprising to find that by the time Dash had finally reached the vicinity of the elusive Pokemon lab on the southern edge of town, he was not too exhausted. He quite literally dashed from one end of the town to another just to reach the laboratory as quick as possible. "Well, I guess I am more athletic than I thought. Good to know," Dash smiled to himself.

The general area was pleasant, with the lab resting on a hill overlooking a rocky beach. The gentle breeze ran through his hair and the sun was beating down on his red eyes. Dash instinctually removed the sunglasses from his hair and placed them over his eyes for the meager protection they would provide. "Thank god for these. Otherwise I'd be going blind right about now."

Dash surveyed the hair, mostly looking for some random items or anything that seemed useful. He couldn't explain the habit, but it felt like something he would do if he was trapped in a video game. Being someone who strived to obtain 100% completion rates in every video game he played was a nasty old habit. At least you could say he was ambitious. Seeing nothing of note, Dash grunted. He wanted to avoid the beach for now, pretty sure he would come back there later. Also, Dash lacked a swim suit on him, making a mental note to buy one later.

Dash dragged his feet back to the entrance to a lab, and noticed a figure in the distance with long red hair tied up in pigtails. Her outfit was different to say the least and Dash would honestly say the character resembled someone ripped out of a video game. Looked familiar but the name eluded him. Regardless of the fact, the character looked a bit different the most of the other NPCs he encountered. Maybe she was important? Dash would need to find out. She was the only other person in the area, so Dash figured she was probably here for the Professor as well.

"Hey you! You here to check out the lab too? Wanna try to check it out together?" Dash asked the girl as he approached her.

Chloe Evergreen
Chapter 1 - Part III
- Pallet Town -

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon VR: Game of Chance (IC)

" On the right track! "

As Chloe sat on a nearby patch of grass, with Volt in her arms, she looked at the town and saw the minor differences from the old game. It was a bit larger and there were more houses, not just the two that you would see in the game. Moreover, there was a big building which looked like a school, or at least that's what Chloe thought. Despite all this the lab was still in its usual place, just like in the anime, on top of a hill at the edge of the town.

" We should get going now. I don't want to get into other kinds of trouble. "
Chloe said looking around. It wasn't crowded at all. Only a few people were outside, but theywere in a small number so it was ok for Chloe.

"Chinchou!" the pokemon agreed as his trainer got up and started walking.

She was walking straight towards professor Oak's lab. The girl wanted to find out what happened to her and why was she here, and the best man to ask was Oak. The place was peaceful and refreshing, a lot better that Route One where those stupid bird brains attacked Chloe. One thing was for sure, she will not catch a Pidgey even if she was paid. Leaving that aside, Chloe was still very confused on what was happening to her, thus the reason to find the professor, but what if he wouldn't have any answers to her questions. What about then? What will she do? These thoughts were soaring in her mind as she passed building after building. The girl had a worried face and it didn't take long for Volt to notice as the girl, even thought didn't talk very much, was too silent even for her.

" Chin! "
the pokemon cried wanting to get a reaction from the girl.

" Hmm? " she finally responded after a few seconds. Her thinking made her lose focus of her surroundings.

"Chinchou! " it said again pointing in front with its angler.

Chloe turned her head in front and was surprised to see that she was already in front of the lab. " Oh we're here! "

"Chinchou? " the pokemon asked the girl.

" Don't worry I just have something on my mind. " she replied smiling back. " Let's go in! " she continued and took a step towards the front door. Indeed it was a mystery how she reached this world, but it was good to know that she had at least a friend here with her. She opened the door slowly and entered saying a loud hello. There was no response, only a long gray corridor that who knows where led. Chloe was sitting still wandering what to do next, but as always, fear clouded her judgement.

" Guess he's not here so we should head...." she said, but before she could end her sentence Volt sprung out of her arms and ran further along the corridor. " Volt come back!!!!" she yelled but the pokemon had already taken a turn and was going on. " Why do these thing happen to me?!? " the girl said in a soft voice. Chloe started walking after Volt which was getting further and further. She didn't dare to run as she feared something might pop out of nowhere, so steady and cautious was the best way for her. After a couple of minutes of walking, that felt like hours for the lonely Chloe, she saw a door. What was different from the ones she had just passed? Simple. It was opened so her pokemon had surely entered in.

" Volt are you here? " she said letting the door wide opened behind here so that some light could come in. To her surprise and shock, the room was filled with hamster wheels, that each held a Ratatta that was running, producing electricity that flowed to a big machine in the middle of the room.

" Never would have expected to see this! Now where would Volt be? " taking a few steps into the room checking carefully every inch for a glimpse of her pokemon. She made it all the way to the machine and looked at it for a few seconds, then turned around. " Guess he wasn't he..WAAAAAAAA!" jumping a few feet towards the door as she felt something touch her shoulder. Chloe then turned around and saw a tall and slim man with a lab coat on.

" Sorry to have frightened you. I just wanted to know what were you doing here? " the man finally spoke, taking a few steps towards the girl. Chloe took a step back and hid behind the frame of the door with only her head out so she could speak.

" I-I-I-I'm a pokemon trainer. I just wanted a talk with professor Oak. "
she replied in a soft tone.

" Oh I see, you must be one of the new trainers." Taking a step out of the room so he could be next to Chloe. " I'm one of professor Oak's assistant, Jeff." Raising his hand for a shake.

The girl hesitated for a bit until finally raising her head to respond to the man. " I-I-I'm Chloe Evergre...." she replied but before she could end her sentence she got cut off by Volt, who sprung out from the corridor, running as fast as he could.

" CHINCHOU!!!!!! " he shouted as he jumped onto the lab assistant.

"What a nice specim...AAAAAAAAA!" Jeff yelled before falling down, jolts of electricity keeping his body in place. Volt had used a Thunder Wave attack as he earlier heard Chloe scream and thought she was in danger.

" I'm so sorry. He was just trying to protect me. " she said kneeling down next to the assistant.

"Chinchou!" he agreed, proud of his work.

"Chinchou say you're sorry! " the girl said turning to her pokemon.

"Chin?" he replied confused.

"Don't worry about it. It will wear off in a few minutes. Just help me get at least up, the floor is kind of cold." He said with a stiff lip. Chloe helped him get up and leaned him next to the wall. " So what business do you have with the professor? " he said as he wasn't going anywhere for now.

" Umm..... I'd prefer to speak with him personally." The girl said in a shy manner.

" Well I'm sorry to say it, but the professor is gone on an important project and won't be coming back very soon. "

"......This is bad. What am I supposed to do know?!" she said looking to Volt.

" Well why not continue your journey and see where it leads you. Maybe on your way, you'll find professor Oak and if he comes back I'll be sure to notice him of your presence here. " he said finally being freed from the paralysis.

" Thank you very much. We'll be leaving now. " Chloe said with a fake smile on her face, then started walking towards the exit.

" Good luck! " she heard behind her. She was really worried now as she put all her hopes into professor Oak explaining all of this to her. Now she was back to zero. Chloe pushed the door and went outside into the bright light, pacing slowly to the nearest bench. She sat down and put Volt next to her, then put her head back onto the bench with her eyes closed.

" What am I gonna do now? I have no clue what's going on."
She said putting her hands on her face, as she was getting frustrated.

" Chinchou..." the pokemon said hugging the girl's waist, letting her know that he was there. It was very strange how, despite being in a pokemon game, Chloe never once thought of the fact that she was indeed a pokemon trainer. One that many of us, including her, dream of being.

" It's not that I'm lonely. Your company is more than pleasant. " she assured the pokemon that was getting worried. " I just have no idea what to do now. " she said patting Volt on his head. The pokemon then got up and started searching with its anglers into Chloe's bag. After a few seconds of searching, he pulled something out into Chloe's hands. She was now holding her Pokedex. Volt then pointed at Chloe's belt where she hanged all of her pokeballs, including the one that belonged to the water pokemon.

"Chinchou!"
he cried with a serious look on his face.

" What should I....Oh I see." She said starting to giggle. She was looking at the Pokedex and her pokeballs that belonged to none other than her, the thing that Volt wanted to tell her finally popped in her head. " You're right. I was too focused on why this happened, instead of trying to enjoy myself and finding a solution along the way."

"Chin!!!!"
the pokemon burst when the girl understood what he had to say.

" I always dreamt of being a pokemon trainer and battling gyms, even though beating a game and beating someone in person will be a lot harder for me. But nonetheless I'm not gonna back out anymore from this opportunity. Thanks for the wake-up call. " she said and got up, Volt jumping on the ground. " Guess it's back to Route One with us and off to Viridian. " she said starting to walk with a big smile on her face, a smile that hadn't shown up on her face for a long while.

chapter one - part two
//.this is not a pipe

Violet stared at the letter in her hand in wonder for a moment. Had it really been there the whole time? It…must've. But then…oh, never mind it. She tucked the pokeball in her left hand in her armpit and unfolded the letter.

'Welcome to the Pokemon world, Violet!' Huh. They got the name right, at least. That was good. As the letter continued, Violet learned it was from Professor Oak, and that she must have been in the Kanto region, because it mentioned Pallet Town. It wasn't until she read the bit about the pokedex and pokeballs that she felt the weight of the purple messenger bag on her shoulder.

"Strange…" she muttered, glancing inside. The bag was simple enough, one large pocket and two smaller ones outside of that that were closed with a button. Inside the main pocket were the empty pokeballs and potions, just as the letter had said. A quick slide-of-the-hand into the side pockets revealed a device that felt sort of like a cell phone or gaming device – the pokedex. Ignoring her 'dex for now, she returned to the letter.

'For any further queries, just follow the tutorial that will start right when you have finished reading this letter. I believe you will do fine if you only dare to take the first step. After all, the only way to finish the game is to keep playing.'

Violet lowered the letter and stuffed it in her pocket. Wasn't there supposed to be some kind of…tutorial now? She glanced around, but found nothing but trees, grass, and the sandy path a few feet to her left. "Hello…?" she called up to the sky. "I'm…ready for the tutorial now!" Still, nothing happened. Violet sighed. "Come on, I don't have all day!" she shouted, still looking up. Yet again, nothing.

Oh, well. It wasn't like she needed a tutorial or anything…she knew how to play Pokemon. And this wasn't any different than that, right? Although…the last line of the letter had caused a bit of an uneasy feeling. The only way to finish the game…is to keep playing? She shrugged. Wasn't that the normal rule with video games, though? Obviously it didn't end until you had finished… Still, the way it was pointed out was slightly suspicious. But she wouldn't pay it much mind; she had a Pokemon to introduce herself to.

Violet turned the pokeball so the button faced her, her thumb brushing over the outline of the circular ridge. She was just about to push it when, out of nowhere, something darted at her through the trees. Violet's mouth dropped open in surprise, but before she could scream, a large hand clamped over her mouth, threatening to suffocate her.

"Don't say a word," a low voice grumbled in Violet's ear. She didn't listen. Instead, she flailed and flopped about in the man's arm, finally breaking free. Her captor was shockingly old, with white hair and a huge bald spot on his head that reflected the sun. He was only a few inches taller than Violet herself, hunched over and skin-and-bones thin, and she wondered how this brittle creature could possibly have ran to her in mere seconds. She opened her mouth to yell again, but before she did the man held up his hands.

"Stop, stop!" he croaked, his voice higher now. "I mean no harm. It's just all…that racket you're making…is scaring them away!" The man seemed frantic, and his speech pattern was oddly broken up, grouping phrases together to take random breaths.

"Scare who away?" Violet inquired, looking around. She didn't see anybody except for the seemingly crazy old man. Could he be seeing things?

"The Rattata. The…Rattata! They're hiding…scurrying all about, you…were scaring them away!" Rattata? What use could this man possibly have for any Rattata? As far as Violet was concerned, Rattata were pretty useless. Most of the time she avoided first route Pokemon entirely – no use training up something that wasn't going to be very useful later on. Of course, there were some exceptions to the rule… Although she would never admit it, Violet was a fan of Bidoof and Bibarel, two Pokemon that were always hated on. And a couple of other first-route Pokemon caught her eye too. But Rattata wasn't one of them. Before she could ask the man what he needed the tiny rats for, he turned and began to walk away, giving a swift gesture with his hand for Violet to follow. With a shrug, she did.

The elderly man led her into the trees, walking her silently on a path that existed only in his memory. Violet brushed her hand over one of the odd trees and found it felt exactly like a normal tree did. 'Normal tree, huh? I guess here I'm not used to normal…'

"So…" the man interrupted her thoughts. "What was all…that yelling about anyways?"

"Oh I was just…um…well nothing, really I just…kind of like…I guess I had stubbed my toe on a rock, yeah!" For a moment she'd pondered telling the truth, but 'I was yelling at the sky to give me the tutorial' didn't sound like a very good – or sane – reason. "It hurt quite a bit."

"Ah, I see," the man replied. He turned abruptly into another section of trees, leading Violet deeper into the forest. "The name's…Max, by the way."

"Violet. Nice to meet you, um, Max…" Max nodded, concentrating on something in the distance. "So, uh, may I ask where we're going, exactly?"

"Why, to the…Rattata, of course!" Max answered, speeding up his pace a little. "It seems my grandson has found…a couple." He pointed in the direction they were walking, but Violet didn't see anything.

"Oh, right. What do you need the Rattata for anyways?"

"Work, ah…mostly. They can…chew through really anything. Useful…little buggers, they are!" Well that made sense. Violet never had a reason to chew through anything in Pokemon games before. Hopefully she wouldn't have to in this one, either; she really didn't want to have to use a Rattata for anything.

After walking a few more yards, Violet began to see what the man was walking towards. A purple banner was tied around a low branch on a nearby tree, next to what seemed like an open clearing. Sunlight shone through the opening in the trees, and as they got closer, Violet could see it WAS a field.

Finally, after a few more minutes they reached the clearing. Max moved out of the way, and Violet gasped at what she saw in the middle: two Rattata were fighting each other, really going at it, like no Pokemon battle she'd ever seen before. It was so much more…real than in the games, and even a bit more harsh than the anime. They snipped at each other and tackle each other, rearing back and going at it again. It wasn't until he spoke that she noticed the boy on the other side of the clearing.

"Hey, Grandpa!" Violet looked up, and her heart skipped a beat. The boy was…incredibly good looking, much different than she'd expected. He looked to be about her (current) age, around 13 or 14 years old. His shaggy brown hair covered most of his head, and his bright blue eyes were so light Violet didn't even have the concentration to come up with some cliché simile to describe them. He was tall for their age as well, about as tall as his grandfather, and Violet could see the muscles of his arms under his hooded sweatshirt. He was gorgeous.

And suddenly, Violet remembered what had happened. Why she had been a he, why he was now a she, why she had created herself in the first place, why she'd made herself this way. It was for the boys. It was a cover up…her whole self was a cover up for some part of her she – he? – hadn't wanted. Violet was broken out of her trance as the boy spoke again.

"I left Sage at home…and the pokeballs were in the bag grandma is fixing up. I'm all out." The more he spoke, the more entranced Violet became, and she consciously had to make herself stop staring. Max sighed and put his hands to his temples, thinking.

"Hey, uh, Vivian…was it? Do you happen to have…any Pokemon on…you?" he asked, turning to Violet. Ignoring the wrong name, Violet reached in her sweatshirt pocket for the pokeball she'd found in her hand earlier. How could she have forgotten about this!? She hadn't even met her first Pokemon yet.

"Oh, yeah!" Holding the pokeball out in front of her, Violet pressed the button, unsure of what to expect.

(OOC: I decided to break this post up into two more parts, since originally it was going to be one but it was getting to be long ._. Hopefully the next part'll be up by tomorrow!)

Prince, Route 1 Part III

To Prince's complete and utter dismay, the ball stopped rocking, and the little red light faded. He had caught his very first Pokémon in the game. It was a Rattata. A stupid, ugly, common, little Rattata.

His next instinct was to leave the Pokéball on the ground, but Smoochum began rolling it towards him, very pleased with herself. Prince scoffed and recalled her, attaching her ball to his belt. He picked up the other one, pleased that he was wearing gloves so did not have to touch the disgusting thing already (though nausea was building in the pit of his stomach). Perhaps it would have a use after all; if he hurried to Viridian there would probably be a noobish Youngster or two who he could trick into trading their starter with. Yes, he could pretend he was trading Smoochum, distract the fool and switch the balls over in his hand... Further distraction would be required while the trade was taking place; it would be a lot easier if it was a girl he traded with, for he could (not that he particularly wanted to) flirt with the mindless creature and take her mind off the trade that way.

He stared skyward as he contemplated this; once disembarking from his train of thought he glanced ahead. What was that, only a few metres ahead of him? Had someone gotten further than he, the mighty Prince?! Or was it another weirdo? It wasn't a Pokémon; it looked like a girl. He smirked to himself, for Lady Luck had just appeared...

"You there!" he called out, after clearing his throat. "Are you heading to Viridian too?"

Chloe Evergreen
Chapter 1 - Part IV
- Route One untill Viridian City-

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon VR: Game of Chance (IC)

" (Un)Fortunate meeting! "

After an hour or so Chloe and Volt managed to put some distance between them and Pallet Town. They were walking on the main road, or at least that was what it looked like, and had a clear destination…..Viridian City. The scenery was very nice and peaceful, with trees every now and then, that keep shade to the lush green grass that spreads along the field. Despite this, Chloe had enough of the route earlier that day when a bunch of Pidgeys decided to shred her to pieces….one thing was for sure as soon as she was out of there the better.

"I think I should catch a pokemon sometime soon." She said looking at her belt at the empty pokeballs. When she played the games she would always rush to the occasion to catch one to train but…..she wasn't too fond of the pokemon she saw here….Ratatta, Lillipup, Purrlion weren't really to her taste and in light of recent events a Pidgey was out of the question.

"Chinchou!" he said winking at the girl telling her that it wasn't any rush.

" Yeah you're probably right, I'll take my time." She replied then started thinking about how this was way different from a game so she should think her moves carefully.

"Hey you there!" someone shouted from somewhere to her left. Chloe turned and saw a dark haired boy, that was looking towards here. " Are you heading to Viridian too? " were his next words as Chloe doubted the fact that he was talking to her. Chloe looked near her and didn't see anybody so the boy must indeed be talking to her.

" Um…yeah." She finally spoke out grabbing her left hand with her right as she was nervous. Chinchou was next to her and was looking carefully at the boy and his actions. The boy was nicely dressed and looked like a gentleman with his fancy suit and dress shoes. However, Chloe was a bit reluctant to the boy as the clothes were too formal to journey into the open roads.

"I hope he doesn't want anything too bothersome from me." Were her thoughts as she was sitting there motionless. Then she looked at Volt so she could get some courage and handle the pressure. " OK calm down. Maybe he just wants some directions. I'll answer them quickly and never have to see him again." She said to herself and then raised her head towards the boy.

AzureRockets
Route 1
Chapter I, Part IV

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon VR: Game of Chance (IC)

"Azure," she replied automatically as words saying 'Route 1' floated above her and disappeared. Wait, shouldn't the tutorial know her name? The letter did? Or maybe this was just something to make it feel a little more personal. And Viking? That was a noun, not a name (though refused to point out that her own name was a colour). This was a game, she had to remind herself and barely real life, as real as it felt. She had to be more relaxed. More like her online self.

Well, a little. At least.

So, she had to catch a Pokémon. No sweat. Bronwyn never watched those stupid tutorials about catching Pokémon, instead button mashing until it was over. No sweat. Lower HP, throw PokéBall. Merry would do all the work.

"Alright," she said, stepping into the grass. God, that was so much like a tutorial, getting her to do all its dirty work. What lazy bums. She almost expected random music to pop up and try to surprise with a Pokémon but instead, she heard a flurry of long grass, a shriek and a Pidgey flop uselessly over and onto its back. Azure had to hold in her laughter. How useless! Oh well, she had to start somewhere.

"So, Merry, what kind of attacks can you do?" she said to the ghost. He wagged his tongue at her again. Was that meant to be an answer?

"Gaaast," he moaned.

"So I guess I can cross Hyper Beam off the list," she said boredly, trying to think as the Pidgey rolled around, trying to get on its feet. It managed to and waddled forward then pecked at Azure's knee.

"O-ow!?" she said, stepping back. "You're not meant to hurt me! Merry, do something!"

"Gaaast," he stuck his tongue out. Azure shot a look of daggers. Oh, was she really meant to yell an attack out? That's lame.

"God, you're so funny, aren't you?" she said flicking her hand at him, only for it to pass through him. He grinned back sheepishly. "This isn't fair, just scare it or something!" Merry didn't hesitate, only floating slowly over to the Pidgey. As soon as it caught sight of him, it almost wet itself. Stupid Pidgey.

"Gaaaaaaast," he moaned in the bird's face. It stood completely frozen, paralyzed by fear. She didn't even know if Merry had used a move or it was just too timid and clumsy to function. Oh, wait, her PokéDex, did that tell her the moveset? She flicked it out as Merry wagged his tongue around at the Pidgey. Oh, here it was. Lick, Hypnosis and Spite. Well, they were all exceptionally useless against a Pidgey.

"Just use Hypnosis," Azure shrugged.

"Gaaast," Merry moaned but didn't even have to launch a beam before the Pidgey's eyes went upwards and it flopped onto the ground.

"Wait, what? Oh, seriously, who really cares how it goes down," she sighed heavily and pulled out one of the PokéBalls, giving it a good toss at the Pidgey.

Prince, Route 1 Part IV

He stepped forward, twirling the parasol (which was fast becoming a habit of his) as he went. Upon closing the distance between them, he could make out her Pokémon better. It was small, like Smoochum was, but minus the bright, button-like eyes and the inflated pout that looked as if butter wouldn't melt. Instead of the stubby arms it had awkward fins, and antennae protruded from its head. Despite its appearance, it was still more appealing than the cursed Rattata, which he realised was still in his grasp.

Prince quickly assigned the ball to his belt and ran his free hand through his hair, managing a small grimace (his version of a smile). Judging by her body language, she wasn't accustomed to being in the presence of one such as he - then again, not many people had this privilege in their worthless lives. He looked at her hair - an odd colour, though not quite so odd in this realm - her face, her clothes and immediately assumed she was another air headed teen whose opinion would be as helpful as a paper umbrella in a downpour. He could think of many more comparisons to make, but ushered them away in order to make room for his plan.

... That was an ugly fish...

"Oh," he nodded pleasantly (ugh, how he hated this sort of thing; the sooner he could be done with her the better). "As luck would have it, so am I. A pretty--" he swallowed hard, hating the fact that he was complimenting someone beneath him. "Uh, girl like you shouldn't be hiding in the shade like that. Why don't you walk with me, you can hold my parasol if you'd like. I'm guessing you're a new trainer too?"

... An ugly fish indeed.

The person then dashed his way over to Nabooru. "Hey you! You here to check out the lab too? Wanna try to check it out together?" he asked the Nabooru as he approached her.

Nabooru blinked. "Sure thing," she replied. "Hm, would you mind if I ask you your name first? My name is Nabooru; I suppose I'm... a new trainer here?" Nabooru giggled at that, even though she knew she was in a game. She then crossed her arms.

"You know, you remind me of a fairy tale," she then said. "Once upon a time, there was a great wizard who rampaged the village of nordina. Then, this magistic rainbow-colored boy came in and set the wizard in a pot of fire! The boy was so fast that he defeated him in 5 seconds; and then, he made his wife in about 7 seconds... I think it's romantic..."

Nabooru was now in her own little world.

Dash
-> Pallet Town

"My name? It's Dash. Nice to meet you, Nabooru!" Dash said offering an awkward and hesitant handshake, as he had to control his urge to hug the girl. Dash, being the energetic, childish soul he is, enjoyed hugs more than the next person, developing a habit of hugging people that he met and actually liked. Dash liked Nabooru based on first impression. She seemed nicer, far nicer than the other NPCs he met. "I am a new trainer too. Maybe we should travel together then. Traveling alone is never fun. At least not in my opinion. Hope you are up for it."

"You know, you remind me of a fairy tale," she then said. "Once upon a time, there was a great wizard who rampaged the village of nordina. Then, this majestic rainbow-colored boy came in and set the wizard in a pot of fire! The boy was so fast that he defeated him in 5 seconds; and then, he made his wife in about 7 seconds... I think it's romantic..."

"I like the sound of that story. Sounds like me, actually. Well, I can only hope that I am be like that hero. Getting the girl in the end does sound nice," Dash said nodding with a weak blush as he fiddled with his hair. Does that mean she liked the hair? Everyone else seemed to not be impressed by it. Or even hated it...

"Anyway, wanna head up now? I'll lead the way," Dash said. With impatience guiding him and ignoring everything else, Dash ran up the stairs leading to the laboratory, though he was kind enough to wait for Nabooru by the top of them, near the door for a few moments before bashing on the door with stern fist.

"Hey! Anyone home?! I'm looking for Professor Oak!"

Chloe Evergreen

The boy started walking towards her after she replied, twirling what looked like a parasol. The only thing Chloe managed to do, except sitting there like a rock, was to get Volt in her arms. The water pokemon kept her safe so she felt better knowing he was that much close to her. As he was coming close, Chloe notice that he just put his pokeball to his belt then brushed his hair and gave Chloe a small smile. She responded with a stiff one as she was getting more and more reluctant to the boy and a bit suspicious.

As he got to her he nodded and stated that he also was headed towards the same place as her. Then continued to what seemed like a compliment, but paused for a brief moment, which only Volt noticed, before carrying on with his charming and refined way of speaking. He suggested going together and not only that, offered her his parasol.

" What a nice gentlemen." She was thinking as he talked. " He's a bit upgraded from the previous games….a lot younger and looks better without a moustache. " Chloe realized as she remembered the old NPCs. But despite Chloe knowing that he wasn't real she sure couldn't be herself even in this situation. "Ok maybe I should practice on him…..he seems very advanced for a NPC, but maybe it's part of the tutorial or something. Plus a parasol would be rather nice in this sunny weather."

" I would be delighted. " she finally replied, trying to respond in the same refined way as he did. It was something new for Chloe but any step forward is a good one in her case. " I'm Chloe by the way. And this is Volt." She said showing her pokemon. Volt raised its angler for a hand-angler shake. As the boy shaked hands Volt let out a bit of a current just to jolt the boy a bit, he set in on a minimum level just so Chloe would not notice…..but the boy sure would.

Prince, Route 1 Part V

He scoffed internally at her response, but otherwise maintained his façade. Prince even - and he would have to wash the glove as soon as he found a laundrette - humoured the ugly fish's gesture and took its antenna in his hand. His stomach convulsed and then he felt every hair on his body stand to attention; something seemed to slap the middle of his palm and simultaneously crackle. Jerking away he glowered at Volt.

"Charming," grimaced the young man. Chloe was a pretty common name - there were a fair few in his literature classes who always sat together because they shared that name. It was stupid, in his opinion but then again most things were inane according to Prince. "My name is Prince. I keep my Pokémon
inside where it's safer for them," came his haughty sniffle as he held out the parasol to her. This was fairly interesting, despite his disinterest in the girl. Usually NPCs did barely anything other than walk back and forth, repeating the same line. Perhaps this was a new addition - technology was always advancing - meaning that NPCs were more interactive.

"I'm guessing you're a new trainer?" he began, continuing with the pleasantries. "Have you had many battles thus far?"

The compliments kept coming as now she was praised for her name. It wasn't anything special, it was just a name that she liked and decided to use as her avatar. Then Chloe found out how the young gentleman was called and just as she thought he had a name fitting for his appearance ' Prince. "This NPC is very advanced....maybe he has a deeper role in the game. " she was thinking as Prince handed his parasol. She took it and looked at it for a few seconds. She wasn't sure how to put it, if she used it just for her it would be rude but if the both of them shared it she would have to sit very close to him.

" L-l-let's share it..." she started saying. She could hardly believe her words. "...until we get there." Placing the parasol between them. " I like to have Volt around and he likes it better this way too. " she said smiling at her pokemon. The pokemon replied with a nod then continued to glare at Prince, watching careful his every movement and words, sparks of electricity rushing in his anglers from time to time when both weren't looking.

" Oh...yes I am. " she said as the two started walking along the main road. " But no. The only battle I had was with a flock of Pidgeys. " she said in a soft and shy tone. " Well mostly Volt. Very temperamental creatures. " she continued trying to make some conversation. She was starting to get nervous as she wasn't very good at this. She walked beside him with her face a bit red and looking down at the road beneath her feet. Volt on the other hand was sitting comfortable on her shoulder but was on his guard for anything.

As soon as Nabooru knew it, Dash, erm... dashed, his way towards the laboratory, leaving Nabooru behind. Well, at least he had the curtosy to wait for her there. Nabooru always hated running. Perhaps she shouldn't of ate so much cake. Nabooru then saw Dash knock vigorously on the door with his fist.

"Hey! Anyone home?! I'm looking for Professor Oak!" he shouted, banging on the door.

"Ugh, you don't have to shout you know," Nabooru inquired to Dash as she closed her eyes while she shook her head. Boy, he was certainly a hasty loud fellow. "If you keep this up, you'll kill a fairy kitten from sudden shock."

However, Nabooru had to try and find Professor Oak herself. She knocked more gently on the door, but, to her and Dash's dismay, no one answered. "Perhaps no one is home after all," Nabooru said. "This stinks; right in a middle of a fairy tale too..."

_ viridian CITY

setting| A middle sized, very modern looking city. Tall apartment buildings are more common than houses with gardens and there are many shops and restaurants in the town center. There is a Pokémon Center where trainers can heal their pokémon and get a room for the night for free when they register their pokédex, and a PokéMart where some paralyze and poison cures but no pokéballs can be bought. You had 5 extra pokéballs when you started the game, remember? There is also a gym and the trainer's school, the latter in which you can learn about type advantages and status afflictions for pokémon, in case you've forgotten them.

gym| A large building on the eastern edge of town. It's only got one floor, but the building is hugely wide. There are many corridors and halls designed in ways reminiscent of ancient empires. The favored type here is GROUND. Trainers will eagerly battle anyone who comes there to train! Unfortunately... the last gym leader was fired recently and no new one has been chosen yet so you can't get the Earth Badge now.

no wild pokémon in this area

story| The Pokémon Center is a good place to spend your first night. The trainer's school and the gym are places that could interest you. If you try telling some NPCs about your problem (being stuck inside the game), some will simply ignore you, while some will try to give you more or less helpful hints... somewhat like the coffee dude in the old games. Other than that, there doesn't seem to be much going on in Viridian City, other than to prepare oneself for traversing Viridian Forest, or taking a hike up in the mountains on Route 22.

_ route 22

setting| This route goes west from Viridian City and has big signs saying that it leads to the Indigo Plateau where the large Pokémon League Competition is held. The road leads upwards towards the mountains in the northwest and there are some streams by the road as well as pine forest where pokémon live.

End your post before the pokéball touches the pokémon!
Common - short battling or events are needed.
Uncommon - good battling or longer events are needed.
Rare - long and exciting battling or events where effort has been put in are needed.

story| If you for some reason trek all the way up to the entrance to the Victory Road - it should only take a couple of hours - the guards will unfortunately not let you in. They say you need many badges before you will be able to cross the Victory Road and reach the Indigo Plateau. You'll have no option but to turn around.

((!)) At some point on Route 22, you may encounter a special NPC that challenges you to a pokémon battle. This NPC, regardless if they win or not, will swear to meet you again because you are now rivals! (if you feel like you want to meet your NPC rival here, let me know and I will PM you info on what kind of person it'll be. That's right, I invent your rival.)

As the pokéball sprung open and the scared Pidgey fluttered away from the girl, Viking snickered.

"How pathetic," he said. "The only pokémon you have is one that can't even attack the wild ones on this route. You definitely need to train."

He gave her a studying look. Was she a human to begin with, like him? Could he ask? It would be a bit weird if she was a NPC and he asked something like that. But then again, she would only be a piece of data, not really someone you cared what they thought about you. And if she was a human, what then? It didn't seem like she knew how to get out either. They were stuck. And Viking felt like it would more entertaining if she didn't know that he was human too. So he didn't say anything on that topic.

Instead, he got up from the spot on the rock where he had been sitting, watching Azure's attempt.

"I'm heading onwards to Viridian City. If you like, you can come with me. Otherwise, just stay here and train until you can actually catch something. You aren't much of a trainer if you can't even do that." All was said with a self confident look. He then gave her a sly smile. "But you're here to beat all the gym leaders, aren't you?"

CHROMOS
→ pallet town

"Hey! Anyone home?! I'm looking for Professor Oak!" a voice called all of a sudden and made Frond Chromos jump up high. He turned his brown haired, fluffy head around. From where could a voice like that have come? It wasn't a grown up's voice; it belonged to a kid. But the corridors were empty around him at the moment...

"Ugh, you don't have to shout you know. If you keep this up, you'll kill a fairy kitten from sudden shock."

Another voice, this time a more girly one. Oh! He was just passing by the front door to the lab. That explained it. There were of course some kids on the outside that wanted to come in! Confident with having come to a scientific conclusion, Chromos justified his large glasses to fit better onto his noseridge and opened the door.

"Hello~!" he said with a big smile. Then he blinked. Outside stood a boy with rainbow colored hair. And a girl with red hair. Now, that certainly wasn't what bothered him; he had been programmed to not really care about whatever strange looks the players gave their avatars. What bothered him was that he just realized that they would want to see the professor. And he wasn't here. Hmm, how would he break the news to these poor kids?

"Sooooo..." he began. Then he was silent for a few seconds, all three of them just looking at each other. "Come in, come in! We have some hot chocolate and candy in a jar somewhere in the large office. Hm, well, the hot chocolate isn't in a jar. But the candy is! I'll heat it up right away. Well, not the candy. But the chocolate! My name is Chromos by the way, Frond Chromos. I'm assisting the professor here!"

With that babbling, he motioned for the two kids to enter and follow him through the corridors to the largest room. It resembled the interior of professor Oak's lab from the old games very closely.

Route 1
Chapter I, Part V

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon VR: Game of Chance (IC)

She flicked her head around as Viking commented on her perfomance. P-pathetic?! What kind of tutorial NPC said things like that? Tutorials were meant to help, not be jerks about it. Ugh.

"No. I skip this tutorial, go away! Like I need your help. Pokémon's not that hard to work out anyway!" and with a wave of her hand, she beckoned Merry and stomped away from Viking, muttering furiously. Maybe she took things a little too personally and it really was just a game and Viking really was just a NPC but he was a total moron. Though, without really holding it too close to thought, Azure herself thought that she could be as bitter as she wanted to anyone without consequences. This was a game. They were meant to be all happy and cheerful and root for the hero. Whatever.

"We're going to catch another Pokémon, Merry," she said in almost disgust, wondering how she could have possibly failed to catch a dumb Pidgey. It was a Pidgey, for god's sake! Those things had brains the size of a pea! Ugh.

After she had found herself a good way lost into Route One, she scanned the area for any kind of Pokémon. Geez, even a Caterpie would do at the moment. Or a Magikarp.

Her eyes chanced upon the next lamest Pokémon, a Rattata. She mentally rolled her eyes but accepted her random encounter; it was far better than nothing at all. Or embarrassing herself with another Pidgey.

"Merry, let's destroy this thing," she said, holding her hands tightly in a fist. "Do a move!" Merry turned to her, face obviously disappointed with her poor choice of words yet again. Oh, right, this thing had moves. She pulled out her PokéDex and found where the set of moves were again. Okay, they were still all pretty useless against a Normal type. Didn't stop her from trying. "Hypnosis!"

Merry let out a pulsing beam at the Rattata, who hissed and jumped out of the way. This one seemed a whole lot braver than the Pidgey, obviously. It clicked its teeth impatiently and jumped at Merry, only to fall through the ghost. Merry grinned rather sheepishly, wagging his tongue at the Rattata.

"Try something offensive, Merry. Lick!"

Merry floated down the the rat and planted his tongue on its face, pulling it upwards and flicking the Rattata up, rolling it over to its side. Other than being slightly dazed and disgusted from being licked, the Rattata showed no sign of injury or being hurt by the lick at all. Oh. Right. Normal moves don't work against ghosts, ghost moves don't work against... normals. This was going to be an endless stalemate unless Merry spontaneously learned a new move.

"Okay, well, maybe we should just ru--" she was interrupted by a screech by the Rattata, followed by a few clicks of its teeth. At first, Azure made a face at the loud noises at first, but soon realised what it meant. The clicking of teeth soon became louder and louder and soon, one after another, at least twenty or thirty Rattatas emerged from the grass behind the one she had been fighting. As Azure stared in shock, her PokéDex beeped wildly. She had enough consciousness to bring it to her face.

'If you see one, it is certain that 40 more live in the area.'

F-fourty?!

"Okay, I'm totally over this," she searched her PokéDex for the Menu. "Save and quit, save and quit."

But there was no save and quit. Wait, what did the letter say again? The only way to finish was to keep playing? Well, yeah, that was like most games, but couldn't she just go back to the real world briefly so she could eat, pretend to talk to her mum or maybe go to sleep? She always did better on a game after a night of sleep. But nope, there seemed to be no obvious way of returning home. Not yet. Aw crap.

"Okay, running definitely an option now," she said, turning tail and sprinting as fast as she could, having second thoughts about declining Viking's offer to go to Viridian. What would be exceptionally fantastic would be a random (or well planned?) deus ex machina to save her sorry butt right now since nothing seemed to be interested in saving her as she ran past and frightened a flock of Pidgeys. She turned her head to make sure they were still following her, only for one to nip at her ankle. Goddammit, this sucked, this sucked, this SUCKED.

"Char!!" she heard a cry from in front of her and Azure felt the ground reach her face, tripping on her feet and whatever had screamed at her. She tasted grass in her mouth (and it was disgusting) and slowly sat up, only to see a dazed, small, orange lizard at her face and the Rattatas forming an enormous circle around her. Merry lazily floated over, wagging his tongue. Did he actually care for his trainer at all? "Charmander?"

A Charmander? Just her luck. When she thought she was going to be eaten to death by rats, she was going to be toasted by a lizard. What a happy accident. It didn't seem to want to attack her, focusing far more on the Rattatas than the human that had fallen over it. So they were both going to be eaten while her ridiculous ghost did nothing? Great. This was just great. What a fantastic game this was turning out to be.

"Merry, can't you do something? Put them all to sleep! Distract them!! Lick them all to death? I don't even care!" she yelled at her ghost as the Rattatas hissing got continuously louder. It was like an incoming train and Azure was tied to the tracks, just waiting for this obscure death. Maybe if she died in game, she could go back and start again? That sounded tempting, though she didn't like how real this all felt.

"Gaaast," he replied with a Gastly shrug. Ugh, useless! If you wanted a job done, you had to do it yourself, right? Except there wasn't much she could do without getting her legs chewed off, was there? The Charmander looked scared to death. What was it scared about, it had a mouthful of fire it could easily dispose of! Perhaps all the Pokémon in this game were wimps. Except for the Rattatas.

"C'mon, you lizard. Blow fire, blow fire!!" Azure snapped her fingers in its face. It didn't do anything but slide closer to Azure, using her as a shield from the rats, who had finally started to close in on the two. Azure would have taken the time to roll her eyes if she wasn't about to die soon.

Okay, fine, Azure would save everyone.

Lucky for her, she had fallen near the foot of a tree and a branch conveniently happened to be in reaching distance of her. She grabbed it and instead of using it as a weapon, dropped the branch on the Charmander's tail, quickly lighting the dead leaves. At first, it didn't notice the small bonfire starting behind it but when the warmth became too obvious to be its own tail, it almost yelped and clinged to Azure's leg as she stood to full height.

"Don't tell me you're afraid of a little fire?" she said to it. Merry gave a chuckle from above. Azure initiated her plan, waving the branch of fire back and forth at the Rattatas. They began to back off from around her and the Charmander clinged tighter, digging its claws into her boots as the fire came dangerously close to it (but Azure wasn't stupid enough to burn her own leg). She managed to wave it around enough that she herded most of them that hadn't run off back into the tree. "Merry, use Hypnotise!" Merry complied, despite the amount of fun he was having watching the show and released a beam. With nowhere to run but into fire, the Rattatas were caught in the beam and one by one, began to fall asleep. Merry managed to keep it up until finally every last one had dropped off. Azure dropped the branch onto the dirt next to her, satisfied that she was safe for now. The Charmander didn't, still whimpering on her boot.

"Right," she said, stomping out the branch with her other foot. When the fire was finally out, the Charmander made a small noise then stayed silent, still firmly planted on her boot. Azure leant down, careful not to crush the lizard as she did so.

"Hey, uh, I'm not gonna hurt you, buddy," she said, putting a hand on its back. She felt it jump as she did so, probably still scared Rattatas were gonna eat it. Stupid Charmander, afraid of fire and of rats? She couldn't help feel sorry for it. Hey… wait… if she couldn't catch a Rattata or a Pidgey, then maybe…

"Hey, um, Charmander guy. Wanna join me on some cool adventures? Me and Merry will protect you from Rattatas or… Caterpies or something. Whatever. Maybe we can tackle this fear of… everything," Azure said as gentle as possible, which wasn't really as gentle as it could have been. Merry scoffed. Like this was going to work.

chapter one - part three
//.this is not a pipe

In a flash of white light, Violet's first Pokemon – first REAL Pokemon – stood in front of her. Or rather, bounced and slightly jiggled in front of her, a little unstable on its single spring.

It was a pig.

The gray Pokemon tilted it's head/body ever so slightly, staring up at Violet, seemingly sizing her up. The gleam in its eye, the big button nose, the little piggy ears and the huge pink pearl on the Pokemon's head all seemed so…real.

It was adorable.

Violet instantly kneeled down so she was closer to her new Spoink. The pig bounced back, startled by her new trainer's sudden proximity. Violet chuckled. "Don't worry, little guy," she cooed, sticking out a finger for the Pokemon to shake. "I'm gonna take excellent care of you!"

Something Violet said seemed to have offended the pig, however, as it turned around away from her, nose in the air. Violet's brow crinkled in concern – was this how it was always going to be? Would her first Pokemon end up hating her guts forever? According to the anime, that probably wasn't the case. She shrugged and stood back up, focusing on the problem at hand.

That was, until Max's son spoke again.

"Alright, looks like it's going to be two on one here," he noted. His voice sounded amused, as if he was being reminded of some inside joke. He said nothing more, however, and he didn't need to. Spoink had bounced right up to the two Rattata, eying them both the same way it'd stared at Violet.

The two Rattata stared right back at the grey Pokemon, unsure of what to do about this unwelcome interruption to their fight. It didn't take them long to decide; both of them took a step back and hissed, showing their pointy teeth. Violet tried not to glance at Max's son, giving all of her effort into the situation at hand. After thinking it over, she was about to give Spoink an order…when her Pokemon made a choice of its own.

Spoink hopped so it was just a few inches away from each of the Rattata, stretched out both of her stubby arms, and smacked each of them across the face. Everyone around the clearing was stunned, besides Spoink, who was smiling smugly at the two rats. Then, they lunged.

The battle had begun.

Spoink jumped up into the air, narrowly avoiding the attacks from the Rattata. It landed where the Rattata had been prior to their attack and spun, ready for the next incoming attack. Violet opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. Spoink dodged again, landing again to the side of the rats. Somehow Violet knew that even if she did give an order, the Pokemon still probably wouldn't listen to her. The pig was doing fine on its own, and besides, Violet wasn't sure what moves it knew or even what level it was at.

The 'battle' continued the same way for quite a while – Rattata attacking, Spoink hopping and dodging. But within a few minutes, Violet could see her Pokemon starting to get tired. The rats, however, seemed to show no signs of slowing down. They reared back and kept coming, again and again. Maybe her Pokemon did need Violet's help...

But, what could it do? Violet looked up at Max and his son, giving them a questioning look, but neither seemed to have any inkling of the attacks Spoink knew. Vi sighed and rested her head in her palms, massaging her temples. Think…think… She knew it was a psychic Pokemon, but it was probably the typical starter Pokemon level: five. And that meant its move pool was limited. There had to be SOMETHING though… Suddenly, Violet felt a vibration coming from her hip. Shocked, she reached her hand down to grab at whatever was vibrating. Had her cell phone come with her to this crazy game?

'No…' she realized with a grin. Stuffing her hand in her messenger bag pocket, she withdrew the Pokedex from within. It was lavender, she noted with glee. And as soon as she took it out, it spoke.

'Spoink – Attacks: Splash, Psywave. Anything else you would you like to know?'

The Pokedex spoke in a monotone, robotic voice, "Nope," Violet smiled, pocketing the Pokedex again. Now, she was prepared. Or, well, as prepared as she could be.

Her Spoink knew two attacks at this point: Splash, the most useless move known to man in the history of Pokemon ever, and Psywave, which, if she remembered correctly, did a random amount of damage that had something to do with the Pokemon's level. Which clearly wasn't very high at this point…but maybe she'd get lucky? It was worth a try. Spoink landed and spun once more, starting to pant now, its spring drooping a little.

"Spoink!" Violet called, waving at the pig. It glanced up at her hopefully, willing Violet to share her plan with its eyes. "Alright, bud, let's try a Psywave!" Her Pokemon sprang into action, 'standing' up straighter and facing the looming Rattata. Eyes gleaming white, the pig fired a ring of white energy at the attacking Pokemon, knocking them both backwards away from their target.

At this sudden burst of energy, Spoink smiled and pumped its tiny fist in the air, swaying on its spring. The rats, however, started to get frantic. They split apart, speeding up their attacks and coming for Spoink on both sides.

'Quick Attack,' Violet's Pokedex offered from her pocket. She nodded, crossing her fingers and hoping that Spoink still had the energy to move. Luckily, reflexes beat out her Pokemon's tiredness, and Spoink hopped forward out of the way, causing the two rats to slam into each other.

"Ha ha, good one!" Violet laughed, giving Spoink a thumbs up. "Now give it another Psywave!" Spoink's eyes began to glow again, and once more the pig fired a ring of energy at the Rattata. This time, however, there were two slight disadvantages: First, the ring was smaller, due to both Spoink's growing fatigue and the random factor of the move. Second, the two purple rats knew what to expect this time. While the ring still struck one of the Pokemon, knocking it back, the other wild Pokemon jumped around and charged at Spoink with a Quick Attack – unexpectedly slamming her in the side. Spoink cried out as she toppled over, the pearl resting between her ears knocked off of its nest on her head and rolling over to rest a few feet away from Violet's feet.

Not a good idea. Spoink jumped up, arms flailing about – its pearl, its baby, was gone. The tiny pig let out a squeal of disgust before thrashing about, hitting the ground, nearby tree stumps, and luckily, the two rats. While one of the rats – the same, Violet assumed, that had been hit by the second Psywave -fainted, falling backwards into the bushes, the other was still standing as Spoink collapsed on the ground, trading her angry splashing fit for a steady stream of tears.

Violet frowned, unsure of what to do. The remaining Rattata knew exactly what to do, though. It lunged for Spoink, turning her over and pinning her to the ground. It flared its teeth, fangs ready to strike, and Violet knew if she didn't do something that this was the end. No hope of catching the Rattata for Max, and more importantly, no hope of proving herself to his son. So she stopped for a moment – all she had was just one moment – and thought.

What could she use against the rat bringing impending doom on her first and only Pokemon and her reputation? She glanced around the clearing: nothing in her bag would help, and there wasn't a branch that she could easily pluck off anywhere in sight. Max and his son didn't seem to have anything on them, and besides, Violet didn't want to seem like she needed help. There had to be something…

And then, she spotted it. The pearl. Grinning, Violet stepped forward, snatching the pink pearl off of the ground. It was surprisingly heavy for its size, but it fit snugly in the palm of her hand. Only one shot…she would make it count.

"Hey, rat-ass!" Violet called, just as the rat was about to dig its fangs into her tiny Pokemon's skin. The Pokemon didn't even look back at her…but it didn't matter. With all of the strength she could muster from her thirteen-year-old avatar, Violet flung the pearl at the Rattata.

Violet sucked in a breath of air, holding it in place in her throat.

The pearl soared through the air, making a somewhat graceful arc towards its target. Thankfully, it hit. With a satisfactory CLUNK!, the pearl made contact with Rattata's head, and the rat Pokemon stumbled backwards, momentarily dazed. Violet let out a cheer of triumph before reaching into her back and digging out one of the empty pokeballs she's found inside earlier.

It seemed here she didn't have to worry much about aim. The pearl had hit spot on, and she was confident the ball would too. Violet tossed the red and white device at the dazed rat, enveloping it in a flash of red light.

"No. I skip this tutorial, go away! Like I need your help. Pokémon's not that hard to work out anyway!" And with a wave of Azure's hand, she beckoned her Gastly and stomped away from Viking, muttering furiously.

Viking smiled and shook his head when she marched into the forest and disappeared. So she had really believed that he was the tutorial in the game. Then she probably was like him - a human player. He suddenly wondered if there could be more of them here. More competition. He shrugged and turned to start walking north again. He would be stronger than all of them, in that case. Already now, he could tell this girl wasn't much of a match. Maybe if he won the game, he would get out. And be Rosa again...

Was that what he wanted?

He shook his head to himself as he walked on. Why think about that now. He should just play and enjoy the cool scenery around him! He was definitely sure of that it wasn't mere computer graphics now. It was so real.

It took him a while, but without further interruptions, Viking finally reached the next area.

→ viridian city

It was odd, walking past the ledges that Viking up til now only had seen in 2D through the eyes of Rosa on a GB screen, while the floating screen appeared in the air before him, saying "Viridian City". And behind it was a city that looked nothing like in the games. This city had actual streets and buildings. NPC people were walking up and down the streets - but not just forth and back like they usually did. These seemed to have a goal and purpose with where they were walking. There were shops and apartments, but no cars. Viking guessed that people relied on pokémon for transportation rather than on machined vehicles here. Or maybe... maybe they just didn't have the need to transport themselves between cities. Because they were in a game and were designed to remain where they were! The players were the only ones that really journeyed, come to think of it. And they all walked by foot. Viking thought that maybe he should get himself some kind of pokémon to ride on, eventually. But what would that be from Kanto? A Tauros?

It didn't take him long to find what he was looking for: the pokémon center. Stepping inside the sliding doors, he was a bit surprised to find it so very much alike the place in the games. The same arrangement, colors and everything. Even...

"Welcome to our Pokémon Center! Would you like me to heal your Pokémon back to perfect health?"

Viking blinked, then couldn't help laughing. The pink haired nurse on the other side of the counter leaned her head to the side and gave him a worried look. "Are you alright, mister? Would you like me to take a look at you as well?"

Viking stopped laughing at that. Wasn't that an odd thing to say? As if Nurse Joy was flirting with him or something. He just handed her Charmander's and Staryu's pokéballs.

"Ok. We'll need your Pokémon," the nurse said and then realized that the white haired boy had already handed them to her.

She smiled and thanked him and then went back into another room. Viking leaned in over the counter to try and see what she was doing. She appeared to put them into some kind of machine that resembled the healing machines from the games closely. Then she put down a lid, pressed a button and waited a few seconds, before she opened the lid and took out the pokéballs again.

"Thank you for waiting. We've restored your Pokémon to full health. We hope to see you again!"

"Of course you do..." Viking muttered and exited the building. Seriously, all those Joys were so creepy. Hoping to see him again? That was like saying 'I hope you get hurt again!' Sadists.

There was then a man who greeted both Nabooru and Dash. Nabooru turned to greet him, as he, himself greeted the two of them with a simple: Hello~!" with a big smile.

Damn, I hope he isn't secretly some sort of pedo... Nabooru thought. "Hi, I'm Nabooru, and that guy is Dash."

"Sooooo..." the man began. Then he was silent for a few seconds, all three of them just looking at each other. "Come in, come in! "WAIT A MINUTE!" Nabooru cheered. "CHOCOLATE? CANDY? EAT?!?! COUNT ME IN!!" Nabooru then raced inside after the professor, going inside the Oak's laboratory. The lab was almost the exact same as professor Oak's laboratory in the games. Of course, when Nabooru was playing the handheld games, she didn't really come here much, so it was almost familiar to her. Nabooru had a look around in the lab.

"Professor Oak isn't here...?" she asked, obviously from a simply glance around the room. "Aw but whatever! Gimme candy and chocolate now please?!"

→ viridian city

The PokéMart lay close to the Pokémon Center, just like in the old games. Viking went in and almost expected to hear a cheerful tune play out from some invisible speakers. Wait... there was a tune playing! And it sounded creepily familiar. Indeed, from the speakers inside the PokéMart, the FR/LG PokéMart tune was playing. Now things became surreal at the same time as they felt horrible real. Nevertheless, a now somewhat nervous Viking walked along the shelves but didn't really know what he was looking for. He had some Potions already in his backpack, as well as pokéballs. Maybe he should buy a Poison Cure and a Paralyze Heal in case he ran into some bugs in Viridian Forest?

Walking up to the counter, he half expected the man behind it to hand him a package for professor Oak. He didn't. So everything wasn't like in the old games after all... Instead, Viking paid with some money that he hadn't realized before that he had, and then he went out again. Now, what more was in Viridian City? In the games and in the anime... A gym, right?

But before he hit the gym, he should perhaps check on his pokémon. The Charmander was still untrained - he couldn't just barge in, expecting to win a battle, with some pokémon he had never before fought alongside. Sure, they were just data... but weak data, at the moment.

He walked to the western edge of town to find some more open and green place to let his pokémon out in. Staryu came out of its pokéball like a gleaming star, spinning in the air for a moment before landing. It certainly looked refreshed. Other than that, Viking still couldn't read it's emotions. He wasn't sure if it even had any.

"Hi," he said to it, and it straightened up, apparently happy for even that little sign of recognition.

Then Charmander came out of its pokéball. It still didn't really look happy, but it didn't seem to hate its new trainer either. It just faced him as if to ask what orders he wanted to give.

"And hi you," Viking said. "Hm..." He consulted his pokédex.

"According to this, Staryu is genderless... and knows Water Gun, Tackle, Rapid Spin and Harden. Not bad," he said with a nod to it. That made it straighten up even more. "But not spectacular either.

Then he turned to the lizard again. "You are female... Hm? Who would have thought."

Charmander looked like it was disappointed with itself. Viking hated the look it had right now. "HEY!" he said, making it listen. "Being female is not a bad thing. In fact, it's often even better than being male. Guys can be so unbelievably stupid. Of course, girls can too... but you're not one of them, you hear me?"

Staryu would have leaned its head to the side if it had had a head now. Wasn't its trainer a boy? Here he stood, sounding like he would rather fight for the rights of women than the strength of men. He sure was cool! Staryu adored its trainer, regardless of how little affection Viking showed for it. The star wasn't going to ponder it.

Charmander gave the boy the weakest of smiles, finally.

"Now, what can you do?" Pokédex time again. "Scratch and Growl. That's not nearly good enough." Viking looked around. "We have to train you, or you won't stand a chance in real battles. In usual games, this would be the time to grind to gain levels... I'm not sure how it should be done here. There isn't a leveling system, you will only get new attacks now and then."

Charmander looked at Staryu questioningly, but the star was silent and didn't give much help in understanding what the white haired boy was saying.

"Viridian City... if I remember correctly, there should be a route to the east of here. Where I always used to catch a Mankey. I can pit you against them, probably. But first..."

He looked down on them both. "You don't make good viking warriors, any of you. I wanted my team to be strong and fierce. You'll have to evolve," he told Charmander, who got nervous. "And you'll have to... uh... just get stronger," he told Staryu, who seemed to nod.

"And you both need some kind of names. I can't go around calling you these cute names you've got now. We want something that gives off the right feeling..." He thought hard for a while. Viking warriors, he wanted? What did Rosa remember from reading about vikings in school... some names. Yeah.

"Ask, and that's not a question. You're Ask," he said to the Staryu. "And Ragnarök," he then said to the Charmander. "That's you now."

Ask wriggled a little, then jumped up into the air and Rapid Spun fiercely. Viking just took it as an ok. Ragnarök seemed to taste her own name. It felt good. She had a name - that was the start of having a purpose! Maybe she wasn't all sucky after all.

CHROMOS
→ pallet town

"Professor Oak isn't here...?" the impatient, red haired girl said when they came inside the largest room.

"I'm so sorry..." Chromos said and pretended to really be sorry, on the verge of crying. "The professor has been gone on a mission for a little while now. He might be back soon but we're not sure of when." Then he shone up. "But there are lots of cute little pokémon to look at in the garden, why don't you go outside while I fetch the chocolate?"

Then he dashed into another room, leaving Dash and Nabooru standing in the middle of the strangely familiar yet so unfamiliar scene. There wasn't even a table with pokémon to be given away here.

When Chromos was just outside the room though, he didn't start looking around for candy immediately. Instead he peeked around the corner, watching the two youngsters for a while. "So they come here looking for the professor, like so many others. And as with so many others, I have to entertain them otherwise and eventually make them go away. This job sure is... unsatisfying."

He started making hot chocolate while humming on some random tune and actually took forth some of the rumored candy. Then he continued muttering to himself, still so that none other could hear. "On a mission, pfft, soon someone is bound to realize that the professor isn't coming home. What will I do then, hm? What will I tell them then... hmm? Of course, everyone will keep believing what I tell the assistants to tell them. Why wouldn't they! Tehehe!"

Prince, Route 1 Part VI

Admittedly the young man was not expecting her to move close to him and hold the parasol so that they both benefited from its canopy. He smirked to himself - obviously his good looks and charm had done exactly as he intended them to. His fingers twitched a little, now having nothing to twirl in their grasp.

"I see," he nodded, feigning interest. "Personally I keep my Pokémon inside so other trainers won't know what I'm using until it's too late. That, and my Pokémon happens to be extremely rare and valuable and I do not wish to entice thieves," which was a little ridiculous considering his expensive looking getup.

Wait, a flock of Pidgeys? Smoochum had only defeated the one! Annoyed, Prince glanced at Volt and pulled a face, making sure the Pokémon could see but not Chloe. How could an NPC be stronger than him, at this stage in the game? Was she some kind of rival figure who was secretly in the Elite Four?

"Oh really? Well Smoochum and I have already fought off a hoard of rabid Rattata as well as the biggest Pidgey you've ever seen," he boasted, puffing out his chest. He was completely oblivious to Chloe's awkwardness - but arguable he was oblivious to most things.

"Say," he began tentatively. "You're a girl, and girls love cute things... Do you want to trade with me when we get to Viridian? I'll give you my Smoochum if you want, she's the most adorable thing ever!"
