The sky was red and without clouds when the lab assistant went by bicycle through Route 1. He had never pedaled so hard in his life, he believed. The boy was nowhere to be found though. He darted past the girl from the lab. Aha! But he only stopped briefly beside her and frowned. She carried no package. The boy must have taken it! He set off again, without a word to the girl.

Finally reaching Viridian City, his body was really tired. Now... all he had to do... was finding the PokéMart before the boy, disguise himself as a mailman or clerk and take the package...

There was the building and the boy was just about to walk inside. Panic!

"STOP!" he called out and made the boy hesitate. Panting, he led his bike up to the building and walked up to the boy. "Heh, give me that package now! It's, uh... it was the wrong package!"

He didn't smile now. He looked a bit mad, to be honest, but he didn't realize it himself.

((OOC: Any player in the vincinity of the PokéMart should be able to see this. Only if they would care, of course. ))

So the strange boy – Viking, was it? – was definitely NOT her rival. There was no way someone who was running against her would offer to go to the Pokemon Center with her. Besides, the guy seemed to talk a LOT.

Violet stood, staring at the boy's face as he talked. Even after he asked a question, Viking seemed to keep barreling on, only pausing every so often. Violet tried to read his face, but couldn't see anything behind his blue eyes.

Violet couldn't help but notice, however, that Viking seemed to know…an interesting amount of information about her, even for an NPC. Max and Wade hadn't seemed to know about the letter or game menu – in fact, none of the NPC's here so far, including the few she'd seen on her way through Viridian City, seemed to realize they were actually part of the game. Was it possible that there were more people like her in the game? More people who were actually…real? It made sense…she would be crazy to believe she was the only one to receive an invitation into the simulation. Still, she didn't want to make a judgment too quickly. It was also possible that this was just a special NPC made to help her out.

Violet stared at the boy for a few more seconds after he was done talking, just to make sure that was the last question.

"I'm Violet," she replied. "And…" She paused for a moment – just one second. "…I have no idea what you're talking about, a letter? I never got a letter…"

It was a lie, of course. But if it was an NPC, and it found she didn't have a letter, what would it do? Hopefully, it would prove her human theory right. Not waiting for a response, Violet nodded.

"We should probably start heading to the center, yeah." She turned and walked towards the building several yards away, trusting the boy would follow.

Chapter II, Part III

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon VR: Game of Chance (IC)
[PokeCommunity.com] Pokémon VR: Game of Chance (IC)

A few hardly successful battles later, Azure's face was a little sore from the amount of facepalms. Honestly, her Pokémon were useless at battling. When working together, it was easier to knock out the wild Pokémon without getting hurt too badly but they didn't seem to understand the concept of 'working together'. Neither did Azure, but she wasn't the one who was waving her arms about with her eyes closed or wagging her tongue around. After the fourth Spearow (as well as two Nidorans and a Mankey) went down, the hobbits managed to win a battle without knocking heads or accidently hitting eachother. It was at this time Azure was really wishing for a Game Boy. That would have been easier.

"Listen, guys," she rubbed her face tiredly, "you're team work is phenomenal. Actually, that's sarcasm. It sucks. It's worse than bad. If battling was a professional sport, you would fail at the preliminaries. And it is a sport here. So you guys really suck. Get. Better." Pippin looked up at her with a soft frown, either not really understanding or not really agreeing. It didn't matter. Merry on the other hand, was rolling his eyes. He didn't seem to care if he pleased his trainer or not. "Okay, fine, maybe we should head back and... take five or whatever. Maybe Route One is a better idea."

"Helloooo! Fellow trainer!!" Azure turned around a person in the distance waving at her from the path that she had pointed out to her Pokémon before. Fellow trainer? Oh... oh god. Not now. He jogged over, his face beaming the now evening light. Though it was hard to see his face, his white teeth shone brightly. It was now Azure was fearing for her sanity.

Wait, fellow trainer? Aw crap.

He had caught distance on them now and Azure could see his face a little more clearly. He was a little taller and a little older than Azure (a little older? Well, she was 13 now, right?) with stylish brown hair and some pretty boring clothes; cargo pants, hooded jacket, backpack, sneakers. Viking seemed liked a crazy cosplayer compared to this guy. Azure was going to run but it was too late now. His eyes had seen her and now they probably had to battle.

"Hey!" he grinned at her again. Azure felt her stomach groan. "Hey, you're a trainer right?"

Azure was very much afraid to answer this truthfully. She didn't get time to though.

"Oh, you are! A Charmander! Cool! Oh wait, what is that?! Is that... a Gastly? A ghost type! You are a trainer! This is AWESOME," he seemed a little too happy about this. What was he, a mass murderer who only murdered trainers? "I challenge you... to a Pokémon battle!"

"I... decline?"

"Awesome!" he said, ignoring her, pulling a PokéBall off the belt on his cargo pants and threw it, releasing a, who would've guessed it, a Spearow. "I just trained this bad boy up, let's see how he goes!"

Azure rubbed her face again. Obviously, she wouldn't be able to get out of this one, whether she was physically faster at running than this guy or not.

"Well, I guess you guys are up. You both are experts at fighting Spearows anyways."

"Wait, time out," the boy put his hand out, stopping a battle that hadn't even started yet, "two Pokémon? At once? A double battle? Right on!" He pulled a second ball of his belt, releasing another ghost Pokémon. This one, however, was not Kanto based. A Shuppet? How the hell did he get one of those? "Yeah man, this is gonna be cake."

"I'm gonna barf," Azure moaned. She was going to lose and she knew it. Escape Rope, Escape Rope, Escape Rope. Why didn't she have one? Ugh, she might as well go along with this. "Okay guys, don't screw this up." Merry narrowed his eyes and drifted slowly into battle, a nervous Pippin following behind him.

Azure flipped out her PokéDex, assessing the battle. No, she didn't want to lose. They needed to do this smartly and not just running into battle, arms flailing like Pippin did. Because that was dumb. She took a little long though, the kid making the first move.

"Shuppet! Use Screech!!" the noise that came out of that ghost was enough to make anyone under the age of 12 pee themselves instantly. Lucky for Azure, she was 13. Pip and Merry looked dazed, but not hurt. "Spearow! Use Peck!" The Spearow went flying at Merry but at least he had learned a little from his training; he floated upwards, the Spearow skimming the bottom of his ghostly body. Crap, she needed to counter this!

"Pip, use Growl, dude. Counter that Screech. Merry, Hypnosis on the bird. No, wait, the ghost," with more confident words from his trainer, Pippin was able to make a harsh growl without his voice cutting off or going squeaky in the middle. Merry acted immediately as well, sending a sequence of beams at the Shuppet. The Shuppet, thanks to Azure's stumble in words, dodged the beams.

"Hahaha! I'm gonna win this! Night Shade, Shuppet!" The shuppet sent its own beam, this one darker and more ominous than Merry's, stretching to both of Azure's Pokémon, knocking them back. They didn't faint but Azure knew this wasn't going to be a long battle if it kept sending out that move. She had to think this through.

Now, if she got rid of one at a time, she had a better chance at winning. And say if Merry was taken out, Pip had no chance to knock out Shuppet since normal moves didn't work on ghosts. Now, if only her dumb Pokémon could apply this properly.

"Merry, spite on the Shuppet," she needed to get rid of Night Shade. "Pip, use growl again."

"Use Night Shade again, Shuppet!!"

Azure's lack of slang kind of kicked Merry into gear, hitting the Shuppet dead on this time. And as he tried to use Night Shade back, nothing happened. Pip, pleased he wasn't getting hurt again, growled back a little more strongly at the ghost and the bird.

"Aah! Spearow!! Fury Attack!" The Spearow darted forward hitting Pip once, twice, three times, four times, five times on the stomach. Pip was knocked down and didn't even try getting up, eyes hazy. Obviously, this lizard was down.

"Hang on, time," Azure made a T with her hands and quickly dashed in, scooping up Pip and running back to a safe spot.

"Chaaaar," he said, head lolling back. What a goose. Okay, time to win this thing.

"Merry, Hypnosis," Azure said, cradling Pippin in her arms. The beams hit this time, the Spearow falling to the ground, asleep. The Shuppet tried to counter, but again, its Night Shade didn't work.

"What? C'mon, we must have trained too much! C'mon, wake up, Spearow!" But no, the Spearow stayed down and asleep. It looked like it was probably enjoying a nice dream. Dumb bird.

Azure didn't even have to call out the next moves, Merry acting on his own. He floated in, avoiding another Screech by the Shuppet (but Azure couldn't. God, that was loud and annoying) and planted its tongue on Spearow, flicking it backwards to its trainer. The Spearow fell into the boy, eyes dazed much like Pip's. Must be down. Excellent. Merry buzzed back to the Shuppet, annoyed by the Screeches and planted another tongue on the Shuppet. It took maybe three quick licks before the Shuppet went down.

Whoa well... okay. That was cool.

"Whoa! Shuppet! Spearow! Dudes!!" the boy ran in, tending to his Pokémon. "You guys did great, you deserve a rest." He returned his Pokémon to their balls, staying silent for just a moment before thrusting a finger at Azure.

"What's your name?!"

"A-azure," she said, a little taken aback.

"Azure!" he said, his grin returning. "You are now the official rival of Cliff, the next Pokémon Master!"

"Oh god no."

"I'll be seeing you around," he winked at her and ran past her, heading back to Viridian City. Azure and Merry exchanged looks, both with raised eyebrows. She was what now?

"No. No, that's not happening."

The sky was red and the night was near when the ninja walked silently through the streets of Viridian City. She was looking for something, that much was clear to anyone who watched her. But no one did. When she was close to the southern edge of the city, she overheard two trainers speaking though.

" A-a-are you…….by any chance……a player from the real world???"

"..."

"……Y-y-yes I'm ok…I haven't felt any hunger or thirst. "

That made her head turn. She closely watched the well dressed boy and the green haired girl as they made their way to the pokémon center. The girl entered before the boy and the doors shut closed. That was when Janine approached the boy, before he could walk away or enter the Pokémon Center as well.

"Trainer," she said. "I need to ask you some things. Please answer me. First... who are you?"

"I'm Violet," she replied. "And…" She paused for a moment – just one second. "…I have no idea what you're talking about, a letter? I never got a letter…"

Viking raised his eyebrows. No letter? Maybe she had dropped it or something. What she said before about opening the menu certainly revealed that she was a human player anyways. Violet didn't wait for a reply though. She turned around and started walking towards the Pokémon Center.

"We should probably start heading to the center, yeah."

"Mhm... sorry, there's probably a glitch in my programming, believing you were someone you weren't," Viking mumbled, hoping she wouldn't realize how silly he himself thought it sounded, because he knew immediately after saying it that a NPC probably wouldn't understand that they were programs. Oh well. Maybe she hadn't even heard him.

He followed her but as they stepped up to the Pokémon Center, two figures were standing outside. One, Viking recognized. It was from one of the games but he couldn't put his finger on which of them... a ninja girl. Ninja. That was Koga's gym, right? No wait, that was Janine! The living and breathing version of the gym leader Janine! That was kind of cool. She didn't look like he had imagined her to look, but she was still clearly recognizable.

Prince: Viridian City, Part III

Of course it was pleasant, she had been in his company after all! He sighed to himself, still feigning interest in Chloe who seemed to have lost some of her shyness - not that he cared. She bid him good bye and good night -- wait, that wasn't part of the plan! He wasn't an escort, dammit! Prince stepped forward, wanting to catch up to her and try again - maybe he could get her something nice to eat, sweeten her up and maybe even let Smoochum out of her Pokéball to show her what an endearing Pokémon she was. However, he was prevented from exacting his plan by someone who was vaguely familiar to him. He didn't recognise their voice, but her face and clothing style (though the latter was quite peculiar) reminded him of something he couldn't quite place. Was she a Narutard or something? People often customised their avatars to look like characters from their favourite shows, after all. Or perhaps she had a fetish, given the fishnet material that made up parts of her outfit. Her authority, however, was cutting, and he couldn't help but stare at her. Okay, he would play along with her.

"If you wish to battle, I'm afraid I need to heal my Pokémon first," he said calmly, running one gloved hand through his hair. "However, if you wish to talk to me then I'm sure I can delay my plans for a moment or two." There was a small smile on his face, but again it was not a genuine one. He had only been playing for a little while, and the women kept bothering him. Ah well, such was the price to pay for a beautiful face...

"My name is Prince," he offered his hand in politeness. "Before you ask anything else, would you do me the pleasure of giving me your own name?"

chapter 2 - part 1.4
//.2.b.a master

Viking decided to follow Violet; she could hear his footsteps falling behind hers. She slowed her pace a little, giving the boy time to catch up. In response to her first statement, Viking muttered, "Mhm... sorry, there's probably a glitch in my programming, believing you were someone you weren't." A grin spread over Violet's face.

So the boy was clearly a human. She was smart enough to realize that none of the NPC's had any thought what-so-ever about being in a game. And now, he had no idea she was a human as well. The player was being played. But an ally in this new world couldn't hurt…

Violet was about to open her mouth and admit the truth (well, the human part of it, anyways), when from up ahead she heard a voice. As she approached the center, she saw a boy and a girl talking in front of the entrance. The girl looked slightly familiar…probably a more important NPC in the Pokemon series. She couldn't put her finger on which it was exactly, though.

Violet stopped a couple of feet back, taking a side step closer to Viking, who had caught up to her by now. She crossed her arms and glanced at him for a second. White hair…surely, he didn't look like that in the real world. But then, she looked NOTHING like the real world. In fact, she was a complete opposite…in more ways than one. The corners of Violet's mouth turned up a bit, and she returned her attention to the two in front of the center.

Violet had grinned when Viking uttered his stupid line. That made him raise an eyebrow. She thought he was crazy. But that was alright; she was just a NPC. The girl stepped closer to him when she too spotted Janine in front of the pokémon center, rather than to walk up to them. The woman was talking to someone who reminded Viking of the "rich boy" or "gentleman" in the pokémon games. But even though a gym leader was here, it didn't bother Viking much now. His goal was to train a strong team and beat them all - at their gyms, because in the games you had never been able to battle a gym leader if you met them outside of the gyms anyways. No point in worrying about this ninja woman now.

"Are you afraid of those people, or what? Let's just go past them and into the pokémon center," Viking said, confidently, to Violet and then noticed that she seemed to be watching him. "What?" he grunted. Then a hint of Rosa's strong will came over him, because he took Violet's hand in his and more or less dragged her past the two people, entering the center.

"There," he said, letting go of her hand. "I helped you." He didn't know why he had grabbed her in the first place. But it had been the first time he had touched another person in the game... She felt very alive. He held up his hand and looked at it for a moment, thinking. Then he looked right into Violet's eyes. Nah. He was just paranoid.

He noticed yet another person with strange hair color stand in their vicinity. Green hair, and equally green eyes. Well, he shouldn't be surprised. The pokémon games - and anime - was filled with strange colors. That didn't mean that all these strange looking people were human players. Then again... Azure had been. And Violet had been. Maybe this girl was one too?

As the boy in front of her, Prince, replied, two other people who seemed to be trainers walked past them and into the pokémon center. Janine's gut feeling made her take a glance at them before she turned back to the first boy.

"Prince..." Not unusual enough to worry her. "My own name?" she said with the tiniest smile. "Very well then. I'm called Janine. The next things I need to ask are... have you seen anything worrying here in Viridian lately? Have you heard of suspicious people? Or seen anything... abnormal happen?"

She could have just asked any person in the city. That was what she usually did when on patrols like this. But the things the green haired girl had said earlier had made that gut feeling of Janine's twitch. And she was the kind of person who wanted to follow it. She would try to find the girl when she was done talking to the boy. Just because.

Nabooru panted and wheezed as she soon realized, she lost Dash. Damn that boy - he was going to have Nabooru run a marathon. She soon stopped, and surveyed around the forest. She was sick of this forest - too much plant life very where, despite them being the color green. Nabooru was never really the traveling type, and even if she did, it wasn't very far - perhaps to the nearest convenience store, or to one of her friends' house, but nothing more. She finally caught her breath, was about to head out again, until she heard a strange ruffling coming from the nearby bush. She was spooked it might of been a ghost, until she saw a brown shell that belonged to a familiar blue-turtle pokemon.

"It's... a SQUIRTLE!" She gleamed; score for her - she always loved Squirtles. She would always start out with one whenever she played Pokemon Blue, Red, and Yellow. However, with her sudden yelling, the Squirtle became frightened and waddled out of Nabooru's sight as fast as it's short little legs can take it. "Ohh, come back!" Nabooru called out, trying to keep up with the fleeing pokemon.

Soon Nabooru cornered the Squirtle to a nearby tree, as the Squirtle then made a battle-ready stance signalling that it is prepared to battle. It was then that Nabooru decided how to catch it. The only problem was... she didn't know how in this game. However, she also thought: Perhaps this will just be like the old Pokemon games, and all I have to do is use a pokeball! So, she did that, as she got out an empty pokeball from her bag, and threw it, but Squirtle knocked it back to her. Nabooru realized she forgot one thing - she needed to weaken the Squirtle with a pokemon of her own.

"Go Eevee!" she cried, taking out Eevee's pokeball, throwing it in the air. The pokeball then opened, releasing energy, materializing her Eevee.

"Eevee...?" (Nap time over...?) Eevee said with a yawn. She then noticed the Squirtle.

"Squirt..." (G-get back...) Squirtle warned, as he was shaking.

"Eve~!" (I think your shell looks like a goat~!) Eevee said with a smile, while wagging her tail happily.

What to do now... Nabooru thought. "Maybe I should call out an attack? It worked for Batman... Eevee, use your... um..." Nabooru quickly got out her pokedex, as she didn't really know what moves her Eevee knew. "Okay! Eevee, use Tackle!"

"Ee~!" (Get ready for a glomp~!) Eevee warned, getting into a Tackle-ready position.

"S-Squirtle!!" (N-no don't touch me please!!) Squirtle begged.

Eevee then started to run up towards the Squirtle, as the Squirtle then hid behind his shell, blocking Eevee's attack. After Eevee shook her head, recovering the attack, Eevee then performed another Tackle, which still didn't really damage Squirtle's shell. Eevee was then curious on why the Squirtle wasn't rising from his shell, so she crept closer to him. She was then caught by surprise as she was then looking at Squirtle's tail, and was repeatedly slapped by it - it was Squirtle's Tail Whip.

"Uh oh - I remember that lowers defense...!" Nabooru peered. "It also looks like I have to lower Squirtle's defensive properties too... Eevee - Tail Whip!"

"Ee, Eevee~!" (And you put your tail here, and you shake it all about~!) Eevee cried as she did as instructed.

It was then like... a sword fight, except it wasn't a sword fight, it was like a battle of the tails, as Eevee's and Squirtle's tail's knocked back and forth against each other. The Squirtle was scared out of his wits, still inside his shell, trying to somehow scare off the child Eevee as Eevee, on the other hand, thought it was like a dance routine. Then the Squirtle stopped, finally risen out of his shell, as he then closed his eyes and ran towards the Eevee, attempting to check into it - it was Squirtle's tackle attack.

"Eevee - counter with Tackle!" Nabooru responded.

Eevee obeyed, running up towards the Squirtle, countering Squirtle's tackle with a Tackle of her own, resulting in a stalemate. In the middle of the struggle, Squirtle opened his eyes just a little bit to see what was going on, until the first thing he saw was Eevee... right up in his face.

"Ee~!" (Hi~!)

Squirtle was then freaked out, as he soon lost his balance, causing Eevee to gain the upper hand, and tackle Squirtle against a tree.

"Eevee, Tackle to finish it off!" Nabooru commanded, as Eevee, with the same smile on her face, ran up towards the Squirtle. Squirtle recovered, and ran with his... stubbie little feet behind the tree, avoiding Eevee's attack for now. Eevee stopped, and then peered behind the tree, only to see Squirtle running towards the bush. Eevee ran after it.

"Eevee~!" (Ohhh is this tag now, I love tag~!) Eevee cried, as she leaped towards the Squirtle, only to be retaliated with Squirtle's tackle, causing her to be knocked back a few feet. Squirtle then waddled himself over twards the bush, and hid there quietly.

Nabooru soon ran towards her fallen Eevee as she then looked up trying to find the Squirtle. "It couldn't of gotten far..." Nabooru said, as she was soon interrupted by the sounds of a nearby bush. "There! Eevee, use Tackle!"

"...Squirt..." (...Girls are sure scary...) Squirtle said softly to himself as he then found himself hiding behind a bush. He then heard the sounds of tiny feet stamping, and, despite fearing the worst, he rose his head from the bush, with the first sight he saw - Eevee charging right for him. Unfortunately for the little Squirtle, there was no time to duck, or dodge as he was then hit on his head, causing him to fall back on his shell, with Eevee on top.

"Ee~!" (Glomping is fun~!) Eevee chuckled, as Squirtle struggled to get back up. Squirtle tried to perform another Tail Whip, trying to shake Eevee off, but, Eevee then saw this as a game as she then played with Squirtle's tail, trying to jump right on it, with the Squirtle continuously pleading to knock it off.

Nabooru soon came through the bushes to see her Eevee, perhaps trying to fend of Squirtle's Tail Whip, or just playing - it was hard to tell with her. Perhaps now was the time to throw a pokeball, Nabooru thought, as she took out a pokeball from her bag. "Eevee, get out of the way! Pokeball - let's get it!" she called out, throwing her pokeball towards the Squirtle, causing the energy released from it to be sent out, surrounding the Squirtle, sending it right inside.

As the pokeball dropped on the ground, it shook once, then twice, a third time, then a fourth...

chapter 2 - part 1.5
//.2.b.a master

Violet gasped as Viking grabbed her hand, dragging her behind him into the Pokemon Center. She was still shocked as the boy dropped her hand. Some part of her, the part she figured was her old self, buzzed with excitement. Nobody had ever taken her…his?...her…hand before. And although it was in this virtual world, everything so far had felt so real.

Viking said something, but Violet didn't hear what it was. Her thoughts were somewhere else: half trapped between Viking taking her hand, and the Pokemon Center. She had never been in one before. It looked almost nothing like the games; it was more like the anime, with a bigger lobby for people to rest in, and a much wider counter. On the back wall and sides Violet could see doors leading somewhere else, and behind the counter were a few machines – both familiar and unfamiliar. It was almost like a cross between a real-world hotel and doctor's office.

'I wonder where PEOPLE go when they get hurt here,' Violet thought. For a brief second an image of Nurse Joy treating a human lying down on a cart that was fitted for a small dog crossed Violet's mind. Smiling at the thought, she turned to ask Viking what he thought…and then realized he didn't know she was human yet.

His attention was focused somewhere else, on a green-haired girl across the room. Violet was beginning to get used to the unusual hair and eye colors here, and the purple locks that surrounded her vision weren't too noticeable anymore.

She stood there a second longer before gesutring back to Viking. "Um…I'm gonna go see if I can get a room. See you around." She wouldn't tell him about the human thing yet…after he had grabbed her hand, she still felt a little awkward. Hopefully there would be time to explain to him later.

With a small wave back at the boy, Violet walked up to the counter.

Prince: Viridian City, Part IV

The young woman introduced herself as Janine, and Prince suddenly realised who she was: the fifth gym leader of Kanto (or sixth, depending whether you tackled Sabrina first) and the daughter of the Elite Four's Koga - not to mention she was a ninja just like her father. This was a strange event indeed - maybe in this game she was part of the Elite Four? In recent games the player would bump into trainers along their journey who usually turned out to be powerful - take Cynthia for example!

"It is a pleasure to meet you Janine," he nodded curtly. "Hmm," he twirled his parasol a little and watched the lace fan out again. "If by suspicious people you mean Team Rocket, then no. I've only just arrived in Viridian and you're the first person who has come up to me. Well, not the first person today but..." He trailed off and gave her one of his grimace-smiles. "There was a girl who spoke about the 'real world', she's inside the Pokémon Centre right now, which really puzzled me."

Crap... If he tried to pull a stunt on Chloe while there was a gym leader present - a ninja gym leader - then there would be trouble, most likely.

"I don't know what she meant - I only started my journey today and already I'm meeting weird people," sighed the young teen. "Not that I include you in that list. There was a man who insisted on harassing me in the long grass on my way here, as well as the girl but I took care of him in a non-violent manner. Other than that... I haven't seen any weird goings on, no."

Violet seemed touched, and not only in a literal way, when Viking had grabbed her hand. He tried to ignore that though. But somehow, when she said goodbye and went to get a room for the night, Viking felt like suddenly telling her who he really was. Or who Rosa was. The urge was strange; Rosa seldom had the need to spill out her thoughts for others... wait, that was wrong. Rosa always told people what she thought and felt. Somehow, she got people to listen to her, even if she didn't listen to them in return. Maybe because she was a girl. Viking wasn't... and he somehow couldn't tell anyone who he was. When he had decided to lie to Azure, maybe that was when it started. But it wasn't too late to come clean. Violet, the second other player he had met and lied to, she left him now, and he didn't say anything to make her stay and talk to him some more. He just stood there.

In frustration, he turned around to the first other person he spotted; the green haired girl.

"You!" he said. "Are you a trainer? Unless you have really good reason to go to bed already, let's go outside and have a pokémon battle!"

Now, this was sudden. But he had to let out his frustration somehow. He hadn't battled another trainer in this game yet. It would be really interesting to see how it would work. Unless this girl wasn't a trainer after all... Then again, there was always the chance that she was a player. The slightest.

She looked at the door but Prince didn't follow her, maybe he decided to stay somewhere else for the night. Chloe turned back and walked up to the front desk of the center. She was greeted by Nurse Joy who was beaming with a smile. The girl lifted Volt up on the counter and asked, in a soft tone, if her pokemon could have a check up as today had been a long day. The nurse kindly obliged to Chloe's request and took the pokemon with her into a back room. She was told that it would take about ten or twenty minutes until she would receive Volt back and was asked to wait in the hall until then. As she looked for a free table she saw two trainers come into the center. It was very hard not to notice them as just as Chloe their hair colour were very distinctive, the boy having snow white hair and the girl a very nice shade of violet. Chloe sat down at a table in the corner of the hall and rested her head on the table. " Today was really something that's for sure….got a pokemon, had a battle….well mostly Volt and even managed to walk next to a stranger up to this city. " she said getting all flustered. Despite all the nervousness, Chloe was a tad bit proud of her.

Suddenly she heard someone shouting in the center asking for a battle. She lifted her head from the table and was wondering who the unlucky one might be, but as soon as she was sitting straight her she was shocked to see the white haired boy looking at her. Chloe looked left and right to see if, pray Arceus, there was someone sitting next to her and it wasn't her who was just challenged. However never ever was a lucky person and her nightmare came true.

"Ummm I am. " she squeaked, sitting there motionless, in the corner of the table. " I'm-m-m sorry to disappoint you but my pokemon is being healed right now so I can't battle you. " she finally spoke out, her tone revealing her relief. No pokemon meant no battle so she was going to be fine. As long as Volt was behind the backdoor the guy might turn his attention towards another target and she would be off the hook. As she was starting to feel better, her misfortune struck once again as she saw nurse joy come out holding her pokemon on a tray. " OK calm down maybe he will leave before I get my pokemon back." Were her words as nurse joy was coming closer, every step that the woman took was making Chloe feel like her confidence was being shattered by a hammer.

"Ummm I am," the green haired girl squeaked, sitting there motionless, in the corner of the table. " I'm-m-m sorry to disappoint you but my pokemon is being healed right now so I can't battle you. "

What a pipsqueak, was Viking's first thought. Well, if she was a scaredy-cat, then maybe the battle would go well for him. He just needed something to put his mind off things anyways. But he didn't feel like waiting... He should find another person to challenge instead.

"Here are your pokémon, all healed up," Nurse Joy suddenly said, walking up to the girl with a tray. On it lay a pokéball. "We hope to see you again!" the nurse sheepishly added before she returned to behind the counter again.

Even though one part of Viking wanted to rip the annoying nurse in halves for always saying that to the poor trainers, the rest of him smiled towards the green haired girl now, knowing that she couldn't refuse his challenge. "Well then," he said. "Outside we go."

She honestly looked as if he would bite her head off any second. He sighed and did a tiny effort to calm her down while he started walking towards the sliding doors, by introducing himself just as he had done to Azure and Violet before. "My name is Viking. Remember it, because you'll find me nowhere and everywhere. Who are you?"

As the boy called Prince babbled on about strange people he'd seen today, Janine slowly nodded. "Team Rocket?" The words slipped out from her at one point, but she didn't follow up on it as the boy kept talking. So he knew about the Team Rocket Company doing suspicious things. Maybe it had become common knowledge already. Or maybe...

"I see," she said when Prince had finished. "Well, then I won't bother you anymore. Good evening to you."

With that, she took some steps towards the pokémon center, but didn't enter yet. She stood on the street outside, pondering things. Team Rocket... the green haired girl who was speaking of a 'real world'... This sure had gotten her side tracked from her real mission.

All of a sudden, the pokeball stopped with a 'PING' chyme resonating from it. Nabooru always loved that sweet, sweet tune after catching a legendary pokemon from all the other games; it proves that she was finally successful on capturing a pokemon. Nabooru raced on over to pick it up, with her Eevee following behind.

"Nice work, Eevee!" Nabooru complemented, to get a responded happy cry from her Eevee. "I wonder if I should say something... you know, every time I catch a pokemon, y'know? Those guys from the show pokemon do it all the time, so... I should too! Okay, here we go Eevee!" Nabooru then readied her pokeball in her left hand, and Eevee preparing to jump. Then, with a big jump, followed up by throwing the new pokemon in the air, she shouted from the bottom of her lungs, "ONCE UPON A TIME, I'VE CAUGHT... A SQUIRTLE!"

"Eve, Ee-Eevee!" (Victory, Du-Fanfare!)Eevee cried after while in the air.

Soon Nabooru jumped at the sight of a sudden text box: ▲ VIRIDIAN CITY where she thought, huh... so Viridian city is the next city, huh? I hope Viridian cousine is really good... she turned to her sitting Eevee. "Let's go; we've gotta catch up with Dash."

[FONT=Cambria, serif]Viridian City wasn't all that much larger than Nabooru's hometown, however, it was still pretty big compared to Pallet Town. She carefully gazed upon the shiny surface of each windows from the structured buildings, as well as the people who were walking through the streets. Despite wanting to go sightseeing n a video game though, Nabooru only had one thing in her mind.

"Damn it Dash, where are you..." she said softly to herself, looking about the city as she walked. Well, her best chance was to find Dash inside the local Pokemart, which in the games, had a blue building. Well, priority searching was never in Nabooru's forte, but, no matter. Pretty soon, the Blue-Roofed PokeMart was in her sights, and she followed the trail right towards the entrance. She then grabbed a hold upon the golden handles of the door, and slowly opened the door. Pretty soon she saw Dash - the first person in her sight, as the door was shut behind her.

"...Man, you really like to have ladies run a marathon," Nabooru said with a sigh. "Please tell me the package is safe?"

Destiny wasn't really a friend with Chloe as it liked to tease the girl every damn time it could. This situation was no different as just as the boy was about to look for another victim Nurse Joy appeared at her table and handed her pokeball back. " We hope to see you again! " the nurse said then left. " Yeah I think you'll see me sooner than you think." The girl thought the gulped as the boy came to her. She got up and walked next to the boy towards the door. " Why do trainer battles have to be mandatory?! " she cursed in her head.

"My name is Viking. Remember it, because you'll find me nowhere and everywhere. Who are you?" the boy said just before the doors opened before them, in a more reasonable tone. She hesitated for a bit until they got out but eventually finally replied. " I-m-m Chloe " just as they passed by a young woman that was just next to the sliding doors, but Chloe didn't notice her as she was too nervous as to what was about to happen. It was going to be her very first trainer battle since she got here and wasn't very confident in her abilities…..she was to freaked out to remember that when she played videogames she would always beat wi-fi opponent in a percentage of 93 %.

" I only have one pokemon. " she said in a soft tone. " I think you should find a better challenger for you. " she continued trying anything to get out of this situation. " A tougher trainer would mean more experience for your…….." but she stopped her sentence as the determined look in the boys eyes was more than enough to let Chloe understand that Viking wanted a battle and he wanted it now, with Chloe as her opponent.

(( OCC: I know trainer battles can be declined but keep that a secret from Chloe. It will help her and her pokemon gain experience. ))

" I-m-m Chloe " the girl said just as they passed through the sliding doors out from the Pokémon Center. Viking glanced at her and therefore missed spotting Janine, who almost stared at them as they emerged onto the darkening street.

Chloe... nobody in Sweden was named that. Her eyes were unnaturally green, just like Violet's actually. Where was that other girl now? Had she already gone to sleep in a room? No, wait. He shouldn't care about that now! It was time to battle and forget everything else. A wicked smile spread across his face.

"One on one, then."

He took one pokéball from his belt and enlarged it, checking his surroundings. Except for a few people, the street was empty. They could battle here.

"Ask! Go!" With that he sent out his oddly colored Staryu. It stretched its limbs out and looked eager to follow orders. "You may send out a pokémon and make the first move, since I'm the challenger," he said with a gesture towards Chloe, still with the wicked smile.

Before the ninja had finished her trail of thoughts, the green haired girl emerged from the Pokémon Center, an odd white haired boy leading her out onto the street. As they got ready to battle, Janine swept back into the shadows - it was easy, since the street lamps didn't cover every part of the street - and watched them. She shouldn't. She should get a move on. But...

"STOP!" A voice called out, causing Dash to jump up a bit. The voice sounded vaguely familiar, as if he heard only a few hours ago, if even that long. Heavy panting soon followed as a figure his bike up to the building and came to the boy. "Heh, give me that package now! It's, uh... it was the wrong package!" It was Chromos. At least a tired, dying Chromos. Clearly, he wasn't in shape unlike Dash. Strange that the designers would design a fatigue system for NPCs. Oh well, Dash mentally thought to himself. Not like it matters much to him. Chromos wasn't his normal happy self, lacking the bright smiles he had earlier. In fact, he looked more angry than anything else.

"Calm down…uh doc? You sure it was the wrong package?" Dash asked, folding his arms. Despite not being the sharpest tool in the shed, Dash was not a complete and utter fool, more than capable of figuring basic things out. One could say he had plenty of common sense, but lacked the academic intelligence to make it useful. The fact that Chromos didn't seem too uncomfortable was more than a bit suspicious. But what could be the big deal with a stupid rock? It was doubtful that Chromos was a member of an evil organization. He didn't seem the type.

"...Man, you really like to have ladies run a marathon," Nabooru said with a sigh, coming out of nowhere. Dash was pleasantly surprised to see her, half expecting her to ditch him after he ran away from her. Dash nervously laughed when she mentioned the whole marathon part. "Yeah, sorry about that. I guess I was in a rush."

"Please tell me the package is safe?"

"Yeah, it's right here. Well…kind of," Dash said holding up the torn package with a weak smile. "Uhhh. Pokemon got to it. No biggie. Everything is in order. But it seems Chromos wants the package back," Dash gestured to Chromos. "So…um yeah. Here's your ston-- stuff. Stuff, yeah,' Dash said handing over the package to Chromos.

"Calm down…uh doc? You sure it was the wrong package?" the boy asked, folding his arms. He looked skeptical, which annoyed the lab assistant. Why would the boy be skeptical? He had no reason not to believe Chromos.

"Yes. I'm sure! Those other... absent-minded lab coated guys handed me the wrong one," he sad, walking forward towards the boy.

Then came the girl with the long red pigtail hair. "Please tell me the package is safe?" she said, looking up at the boy.

The boy gave off a weak smile though. "Yeah, it's right here. Well…kind of." He held up the torn package. Something glimmered inside of it, making Chromos' face turn pale. "Uhhh. Pokemon got to it. No biggie. Everything is in order," the boy continued. "But it seems Chromos wants the package back," the weirdly colored boy continued, gesturing to Chromos. "So…um yeah. Here's your ston-- stuff. Stuff, yeah."

Chromos eagerly took the package, but he heard what the boy said. "So you saw," he commented. He seemed to be thinking hard, but then shone up into a strangely relieved smile. "No harm then! Good luck in your life!"

And with that, he started walking away from them. However, he didn't get far until...

"You!" a woman's voice called. Chromos looked up, and became pale again. But he wasn't about to loose his cool now. He could get out of this. Dash and Nabooru were still close enough to see and hear him though.

Janine had finally decided not to watch the battle. If it went on for a while, she could go back and find the girl later. Chloe, she had caught the name. The streets were really dark around her as she closed in on the PokéMart, but the street lamps provided enough light as she walked north, enough for her to spot a lab coat and arms curled around a brown package walking towards her.

"You!" she called out, and the man froze in the spot. Relieved and smiling, Janine walked up to him. "You still haven't delivered the package yet? Late. But I'll just take it immediately then."

Chromos blinked frenetically. "No, not this one! It was the wrong package, they got mixed up acciden-"

"Oh really? It so happens that I know what should be inside. Can I have a look?"

"No! Absolutely not! Who are you? This was supposed to be sent to B-"

"I'm with him," Janine said seriously.

"I don't believe you!"

"It'll make your job easier if you just hand me the package now."

"This package is only going to the original addressant!"

"This package?"

"Yes!"

"The one you're holding now?"

"Do you see any other package laying around?!"

"Didn't you just say... that this was the wrong package?"

Chromos blinked as Janine leaned forward with a malicious smile. "Oh," he managed to say before Janine pulled the package out of his hands.

"That will be all," she said and started walking up to the PokéMart's doors. Behind her, a fuming Chromos clenched his fists. What he was thinking right now was anyone's guess.

Of course Dash looked inside... Nabooru thought. Hm... What was he about to say? ...A stone?

Chromos eagerly took the package, but he heard what the boy said. "So you saw," he commented. He seemed to be thinking hard, but then shone up into a strangely relieved smile. "No harm then! Good luck in your life!"

"You still haven't delivered the package yet?" Janine said. "Late. But I'll just take it immediately then."

Chromos blinked frenetically. "No, not this one! It was the wrong package, they got mixed up acciden-"

"Uh, is it too late that this reminds me of a fairy tale?" Nabooru weakly smiled. "Once upon a time, there was a starfish who had a secret box. Then, a sponge went over and asked, 'hey! what's in the secret box?' But, the starfish wouldn't tell him. So, the sponge devised a plan to sneak into the starfish home, and steal the box. However, the starfish found out, but decided to show the sponge inside the box anyway. And you know what? The sponge found out it was just a string. The End!" She then chuckled as she turned to Chromos. "Is... everything going to be okay, Mr. Chromos?"

The atmosphere was getting tense as the two were now in place in front of the center, some more itching that others to start the battle. It was almost dark, so few people were outdoor at this hour. Just fine, as Chloe would have been even more nervous if she had to face not only Viking but also a crowd. Viking spoke and determined the rules of the match….it was going to be a one on one, not that Chloe could have played by other rules. Viking didn't like to waste time as he quickly threw his pokeball and out came a starfish pokemon with a bright gem at its core. Chloe recognized it as being a Staryu so her Pokedex wasn't of any use for now. She put her hand around Volt's pokeball that was on her belt and took a deep breath trying to calm herself.

"Volt come out!!! " she said in a bit stronger tone that before pushing the button o her pokeball. Out came her starter and was facing Viking's pokemon with a determined look. " We have the first move…..so let's see if this works." She was thinking as Viking was looking at her. She closed her eyes in her nervousness and ordered Volt to use a Supersonic attack. The little pokemon sprung up and opened its mouth wide releasing a high frequency sound wave that was heading straight for Staryu. " Hope it hits, hope it hits, please." Were her thoughts as she knew that the battles here were way different than playing from behind a screen.
