Pokemon: Black Infection [IC]

Elizabeth followed Naren upstairs. It had been a while since she had even gotten to explore a house, mainly because she usually avoided them. Yet, that was because of the people inside, not because of the houses themselves. Therefore, she was fine in this particular house. She surveyed the room when brought to it. It was a nice room. A foreign room perhaps, but after learning what it was like to sleep outside during a /thunderstorm/ Elizabeth really didn't care that it wasn't her old room anymore. She did turn to look up at Naren. Elisha thought Naren was her Mom? The concept confused Elizabeth, who had a more strict sense of what a mother was. Yet, rather than try to correct Naren, she began to try to conceptualize what she had heard.

Of course, then she was granted access to the room. She put what she was thinking about on pause and ran in and climbed up onto the edge of the bed, sitting there and letting her legs hang. She seemed pretty happy, all things considered. Then she resumed her thoughts. This time, she thought to ask. Her expression became more serious and curious.

"Naren? ..."

She hesitated a moment, considering her wording.

"Are you her Mom?"

She seemed to be thinking pretty hard. What in the world was on her mind to provoke this level of thought? Nobody knows.

Naren analyzed the oddness of the question. Hmm... another question that seemed magically mundane. She scratched her head, searching to the right words. She could never know with these sorts of things, being terrible with people. She supposed conversation was one of those things that you starting out jumping into and hoping to god you didn't screw up. Naren scratched her head, then moved her hand to Elisha's, who happily cooed. "Erm... how am I gonna explain this to ya... lessee..."

She trailed off a few moments and looked up at the blank ceiling, hoping the cracks could teach her human words in conversations. THen she licked her lips. Naren tried now. "I ain't the one who made her egg," she said slowly, drawing each word out. "But... I was the human who led to her hatching her egg... and helped her get purified. I raised her. I guess, in that way I'm her mum. BUt... in the way you're thinkin' I'm not. I ain't her birther or nuthin like that. I just took care of her. Tha's all." She looked down and fell silent, out of words. Elisha wanted to say something but the humans wouldn't understand her, except Naren knew kinda sorta.

Elizabeth seemed to absorb the information given. She was not so naive that she would ever think a human would lay a pokemon egg. How silly! She also did not take offense to that being explained though. She simply assumed that perhaps there was an error in the translation. Besides, her question had been answered. She was satisfied. Of course, what Naren didn't realize was that she had introduced Elizabeth to a new concept. Said concept being a broader sense of what a mother was. Normally, Elizabeth passed off what people did or said as just weird, foreign culture. However, now that she was with someone who seemed to understand her better than most she had subconsciously become more open to the idea of learning new things. She didn't feel as much an alien around Naren. Sure, the feeling was there, but it was less harsh.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth was still trying to conceptualize what had been explained to her. She made a rather delayed response.

"...Oh!"

Meanwhile, Meowth shook his head inside his pokeball. Unlike say, Cubone, Meowth had a pretty intimate understanding of the human language. He couldn't speak a lick of it, but he understood it more than most pokemon. Cubone meanwhile had only a minimal understanding. Meowth silently wished he could communicate. He was sure he could help out somehow! Yet, he could not speak, and his paws could not hold a writing utensil. He had no hope.

Naren nodded quietly. "Ya dig it now?" She paused, snorting at the stupidity of the slang she had just used. Honestly, nobody except her dear old man had said that. Well, him and Maisy's grandpa, she had been told by the woman. That guy was apparently always full of odd sayings. "Sorry," she said to her, still chuckling at the ridiculousness of her words. "I meant to say: ya get it right?" She was still shaking her head, chuckling bitterly. "Sorry, Papa said that other thing sometimes, cause he was weird."

Elisha squeaked at Elizabeth. She wanted to tell the girl to release her Pokemon. She had a feeling they wanted to come out. But she figured the girl would figure it out eventually She was odd, not an idiot. The Cyndaquil snuffled suddenly, yawning and curling up against her human's chest. Her job was done. It was time for sleep. Lots and lots of sleep would be wonderful.

Naren giggled at her Pokemon. "Elisha's a sleepyhead," she mumbled in the Pokemon's ears. Her breath tickled the Pokemon's ears and it laughed before going back to sleep again.

Elizabeth blanked at Naren's terminology. She had missed that generation entirely. 50s? 60s? 70s and so on? She had no idea they had ever happened. Therefor 'dig' flee over her heard, or rather under her feet. Puns aside, she looked perplexed. Her confusion was lifted however when Naren went on to explain what she had meant.

"Everyone seems kinda weird to me, if you don't mind me saying...!"

Suddenly Elizabeth was startled by one of her pokeballs opening up on its' own. Out came Meowth, who calmly stretched his arms and legs. He then turned to Elizabeth and crossed his arms, a rather smooth look on his face. Elizabeth glanced at him but did not seem to get any message from this.

"That is Meowth."

Elizabeth felt tempted to tell Naren about how Meowth helped her earn the money to survive. Yet, another part of her felt like that would be going on a tangent. Perhaps if Naren wanted to know more about her pokemon she would ask, Elizabeth reasoned. She had mostly conceptualized the whole mother thing by now.

Naren didn't mind really. Inwardly, she did worry a bit. One of her wishes was to be normal (it couldn't be a goal because she tried and failed at it. A lot. Whe you see pretty lights and say so, the idea does not work.) Besides Elizabeth was a bit of an oddball too. It was okay then. "Is cool," Naren told her cheerily. "This little guy was your partner right?" being this outgoing hurt. How did people do it all the time?

Naren examined Meowth. He seemed a mix of annoyed, upset, and dare she day irritable? The colors of those emotions were troublesome to distinguish on a good day. "I could be wrong, but Imma thinkin' yer friend's miffed with ya." She was happy she had no headaches when she did this. It was a massive relief. "Could be wrong though," Naren added. "The colors can blur sometimes."

Elizabeth smiled at Naren at that. She was a pretty happy person right then. To Elizabeth, Naren was perfectly normal... for here. Nobody was Elizabeth's definition of truly normal, which was biased towards her own time. To her, Naren was like the others, only she understood Elizabeth better and was the nicest of them all. Naren pointed out how she detected Meowth felt. Both Meowth and Elizabeth seemed confused by this. Elizabeth because she had no idea why Meowth would be mad at her, and Meowth because holy crud a human he might be able to communicate with!

Meowth looked up at Naren and waved a paw horizontally in the air while shaking his head, a universal sign for no. He then closed his eyes and tried to clear his thoughts before focusing on the thought that he wanted to help her understand. He hoped by doing this it would make it radiate some sort of emotion that would translate to such which would be easier for Naren to read. Of course, by doing this Naren might also become aware that he understood pretty much everything she said.

After a few moments, Meowth would crack an eye open to look for a clock, planning in advance. Pokemon was very intelligent. Meanwhile, Cubone was being lazy in her pokeball.

"Uh..?"

Elizabeth made said noise as she watched Meowth. Could Naren read Meowth's emotions too? Somehow it hadn't occurred to her. She supposed she should trust what her friend said. It concerned her though.

Scott pet the extremely happy Celes. Caelara was asleep in her bed, err, her basket, and Cadas was sitting and staring up at the stars. Celes meowed happily at him and he rubbed the knot on the back opf his head. That had hurt. He couldn't handle that Tranquill right now. It was simply to high a level.

"Um... Would you mind if I shared your camp?" Scott heard someone say. The speaker was a boy, just about his age. Caelara woke up and hissed abgrily at the intruder for waking her up. Celes hissed at Caelara just because she could. Scott ignored them both.

"Sure. Take a seat!" Scott said. The boy walked into the firelight and Scott could examine him now. He was about the same hieght as Scott. His hair was a sandy colored light brown. His eyes were light brown, though one was dead. He had a very large scar on his face, going over his left eye, and halfway down his cheek. It looked like claw marks. His clothing was a typical Sinnoh style of garb, with a lot of stripes and long pants. He even had a Piplup sitting on his shoulder. Scott also saw two pokeballs on his waist.

"Eevee!" Celes said in greeting.
"Shinx!" Caelara said, not to be out done by Celes.
"Lup!" the piplup said waving down at them.
"Gible! Gib!" Cadas yelled scaredly when the boy sat down next to him. Cadas ran over and hid behind Scott. Scott laughed and pulled him out from behind him and set the little dragon on his lap. Celes had already stalked away to go sniff the boy curiously.

"So, I'm Brandon Wade! I was a refugee from Sinnoh when it went under attack. And you are?" the boy said. Scott smiled at him. Upon futher inspection, this kid had dirty, unwashed hair and his clothing was full of rips and tears. He had numerous cuts and bruises. In all, it looked as if he had been living out in the wild for some time now.

"Scott Burges. I'm from Orre. These are my pokemon, Celes the Eevee, Cadas the Gible, and Caelara the Shinx. So, what are you doing? O mean, you must be out here for a reason!" Scott said as his pokemon made agreeing noises when they heard their names. Cadas was still watching Brandon cautiously. Scott pet him, trying to get him to calm down.

"I'm collecting the badges! I'm going to take Red and and get him to help me take my home back!" Brandon said happily. Scott smiled. That sounded about right. Though, he himself had no home anymore. It had been burned to the ground because of the Purification Chamber it once held. So, there was nothing left.

"Really? How many badges do you have?" Scott asked. Brandon bit his lip.
"Err... None yet. I came here to challenge Falkner and was locked out!" Brandon said. Scott smiled at him.
"Yeah, that happened to me. But I got my badge already. Here's a tip. Try and make him mad. It makes his skills suffer," Scott said. He smirked at Brandon, who had an all to familiar look on his face.

"Really? Hey, let's battle! Three on three! You up for it?" Brandon said. Scott looked at his pokemon. Celes looked happily at him. She was ready for a fun battle. Caelara growled approvingly. Cadas looked nervous, but ready. Scott got to his feet and nodded, Celes taking her usual spot in front of him. Brandon also got to his feet and walked to an appropriate spot and called out his first pokemon.

"Starly! Let's take him out!" Brandon said, his accent getting thick as he prepared for battle. Scott grinned happily and prepared to fight as well.

Naren scratched her head. This was really confusing. She thought she saw... a desire to communicate? She believed that he understood her words at the least. That was slightly surprising but Elisha understood her just fine. Ah well. "Ya want me... to talk for ya? I can tell 'her, but yer all cloudy. Sorry mate. Pokemon are harder to read. I'll communicate for ya the best I can though, if it'll help. Try again if ya can please." She closed her eyes, concentrating a moment before glancing over at Meowth again.

She hoped she would see better this time around. Pokemon were blurrier than humans. She didn't even want to imagine the colors blending together. Turmoil was so complicated. She tried to see the feelings as a flame, burning around but not touching the living being.

Meowth seemed pleased, whilst Elizabeth remained confused, not quite understanding how the two were communicating. Meowth raised his paws and gestured to his eyes, promptly followed to himself as if to say 'eyes on me'. Emotions could only convey rather primitive messages, as most minds simply did not operate on a level capable of more. Not having found a conveniently located wall clock in the room Meowth made due by using his hands. He raised one into the air and another sideways and began to mimic the stiff motions of the hands to a clock to the best of his ability. HE was of course trying to explain what was up with Elizabeth.

Y'see, as it turns out Meowth made for a convenient listener when Elizabeth had wanted to talk about what was bothering her. He has been made her close friend in the absence of humans she could relate to. As it also turned out Meowth was more capable of recognizing time travel when he heard it. Meowth watched Naren, waiting to see if she would get the message: 'time'

Naren nodded. Time. This had to dp with Elizabeth right? Interesting. Time travel maybe? Would Celebi be willing to do that? The mirage was full of surprises after all. She gave Meowth a cursory nod, waiting for him to go on. Se had the idea he had more to say for some reason. Naren smiled at Elizabeth, trying to soothe the girl's nerves and confusion. Whatever the answer was, Elizabeth was still her friend. Friends stuck by each other. If they didn't, they would have no one. And that hurt.

She didn't want to hurt Elizabeth, especially when life was determined to make it happen. So Naren took a few deep breaths and nodded, trying to relax and see clearly. She couldn't let her emotions get in the way now.

Starly flew right at Celes, who leapt out of the way. This was the third time he had done that. Brandon was not too good at getting around Detect. Celes Tackled the little bird and knocked him to the ground.

"Vee!" she cried happily, before being smacked in the face with his Wing Attack, knocking her off him. The Starly flew off, then turned around and charged in with Quick Attack. He slammed into Celes hard, and she struggled to her feet. She growled menacingly as the bird circled over head.

"Now! Wing Attack again!" Brandon shouted. Starly flew at Celes, who used Detect and leapt into the air. She bit down on the Straly's wing near the shoulder. Scott was stunned. She had caught him? She caught him! She growled happily and shoved him to the ground.

"Good girl Celes! Keep him on the ground! That way he can't escape! Tackle now!" Scott yelled happily.Celes ran into him and he fainted. Brandon rwturned his knocked out Starly. He frowned.

"Lup! Piplu piplup!" Piplup said from atop his head. It was clear he wanted to battle.

"Really? Ok Piplup! Let's take her out!" Brandon said. He set the Piplup on the ground.

"Use Water Gun!" Brandon called. Piplup sprayed Celes with water, knocking her back. She hissed at him. She really hated getting wet like that. She returned fire with a Shadow Ball. Scott smiled. This was going well. At least, it was until Piplup hit Celes on her head with Peck. Celes stepped back a few steps and used Detect. But that failed as Piplup had used Growl.

"Lup!" he said threateningly. Celes was not impressed. She flattened her her and hissed at him.

"Sand Attack!" Scott said. She didn't need to be told twice. She spreyed Piplup all in his face with sand. He tried to wip it out of his eyes and screeched angrily.

"Oh no! Piplup! Try a Water Gun!" Brandon yelled. The Water Gun went wide as Celes charged in with Tackle. She slammed into him and he went rolling. He was back on his feet and blasted another Water Gun. This one hit her and she fell to the ground. She had been knocked out. Scott returned her and was about to tell Cadas to go out when Caelara took his place. Scott nodded and let her have her way.

"Shock Wave!" Scott yelled. Caelara blasted Piplup with her powerful bolts and he went down. He must have taken more damage from Celes than Scott had thought! Brandon looked really nervous about his third pokemon. Still, he had a battle to win. He shrugged and sent out a Geodude. Scott's shadow Scouter went off as soon as he saw it. This was a shadow pokemon! But, something was different about it... It's shadow was a lot weaker. It looked close to being ready to be purified. Still, it wasn't there yet. Caelara recognised a shadow pokemon when she saw one and yowled loudly at her.

Meowth proceeded to start to move his 'clock hands' faster, trying to explain going forward in time. After a moment where his hand movement sped up quite a lot he motioned with one paw to Elizabeth. In other words, he was trying to tell Naren that Elizabeth was from the past. What a convenient pokemon! Elizabeth of course did not catch it. She herself once again had no idea she had traveled forward in time. That was something Meowth had deduced on his own. Elizabeth saw the smile. It did help her relax a bit. She remained seated, glancing between Meowth and Naren occasionally. Perhaps it was because she was just a kid, but she just didn't get the charades like Naren did. To her, Meowth just looked crazy. Naren on the other hand seemed quite interested in Meowth's antics, and so she simply sat quietly, waiting for something to come of this.

Naren nodded silently. Her guess was right, somehow. She had traveled from another time. Judging by the clothes, it had to be the past. Depending on how far, her issues made quite a lot of sense. Considering she preferred a dress, it had to be a dress. Not to mention her Pokeballs, which were odd even by her own standards. Naren gave Meowth a nod. She understood, but judging by Elizabeth's colors, she herself did not. Poor girl. How was that going to be explained? Naren didn't know and wasn't completely sure it was her responsibility. Who else would though? Ah, the complexities of friendship.

For now though, she needed to thank Meowth. Naren walked over to pet the feline, hoping this would display her acknowledgment and gratitude without too many words. The girl yawned suddenly. She was actually a bit tired.

Elizabeth watched as Naren walked over to pet Meowth, assumedly leaning over a bit to reach the rather short pokemon. Meanwhile, Meowth looked up and stopped what he was doing when Naren reached down to pet him. He then emitted a purring sound, seeming pleased. Elizabeth was mildly amused by this. She had tried petting Meowth before, but like most cats he could only have a limited amount of such affection before it started to overstimulate him. She noted that she would bring that up if Naren took too long. She did however notice the yawn. Well that seemed clear enough to her. Naren was sleepy! Elizabeth got off the bed and moved over to Naren.

"Are you tired..?"

She seemed to be trying t obe thoughtful, having asked Naren herself rather than letting it be assumed.

Naren smiled sheepishly as she stopped petting the cat. "Mm... sorry about that," she mumbled. "Was up early an' all... I'll let ya rest too." She stepped away, heading toward the door. "Ya'll can wake me up if ya need sommat. I'm downstairs. Elisha whined in her sleep and Naren laughed. "Ya worked hard lil' one," she hummed. "G'night," she said softly, leaving and shutting the door behind her.

Naren went downstairs and Bella peered up from where she had been sulking. "Ya comin' buddy," she asked. Bella huffed and followed, reluctantly of course. Naren yawned again. She picked up Bella and placed her on the bed next to Elisha and curled up under the covers, wearing her thinner clothes Her door was unlocked and slightly ajar, just in case Elizabeth woke up and needed something. She was asleep within minutes.

Elizabeth was left alone in the room. Meowth hopped up on the bed beside her and looked.at her like a cool cat, pun intended. Elizabeth giggled at this before getting up and letting Cubone out of her pokeball. She then proceeded to turn off the lights. She was not scared of the dark. At least, not here she wasn't. The dark outside was scarier, mainly because of the unidentifiable noises. She would always be afraid it was some sort of predatorial creature. This was nice though. Cubone casually looked around. Both Cubone and Meowth had excellent night vision and could thus see to some degree. Elizabeth shuffled her way back over to the bed, feeling along through the darkness until she found it. She then climbed up and curled up on top. After a moment she was joined by Meowth. It occurred to her she could get under the covers and so she did so. Meanwhile, Cubone found something to keep her busy until she felt like sleeping. Meowth had curled up against Elizabeth but on top of the covers.

It would take Elizabeth a while to get to sleep, mostly because she had a lot on her mind. Yet, this was nice. She had a bed and a roof over her head. This was very, very nice. Cue sleep.

"Geodude! Shadow Blitz!" Brandon shouted for the third time. Caelara leapt clear of the rock and Tackled him. She just wasn't doing enough damage! Scott needed to call her back. His Scouter then showed the shadow energy flare into life around Geodude. Perfect! He was mad! And the shadow powers responded by going wild and wreaking havoc on him. Until something calmed him down each attack he made would hurt himself. And there was no way of getting a healing item through the shadows! Brandon clearly didn't knwo what to do. He couldn't even see the shadow energy attacking his pokemon!

"Shadow Blitz again!" Brandon said confidently. Geodude wordlessly tackled into Caealra, the shadow attack knocking her out and hurting the Geodude.

"Call out to him!" Scott said as he sent out Cadas, who looked scared.

"What?" Brandon said.

""He's enraged! The shadow enrgy is hurting him! Call out to him and he'll snap out of it!" Scott said. His father had taught him that trick. He decided to play fair and let him calm Geodude down before ordering an Iron Head. The attack was met head on by, you guessed it, a Shadow Blitz. Did he not have any other attacks? Well, it didn't matter. Geodude fainted from the attack, and Cadas walked around dizzily. Scott picked him up and smiled at him.

"Wow! Awesome battle!" Brandon said happily as he returned his fainted Geodude. Scott sat down holding the happy little monster. He tickled Cadas.

"Gible! Gib!" he shouted happily.

"Thanks! You're not too bad yourself!" Scott said. Brandon yawned. He must be tired. Scott knew he was. He lay down and closed his eyes. A few moments later he heard snoring. Great, now he was never going to get to sleep.

(OOC: Think of Brandon as kind of like Wally from Emerald. He'll be leaving in the morning. Well, Scott will be leaving him soon. After all, he has places to go, Cipher to destroy. You know how it is. :P)
