The main problem is the Writer/Directors are bend on the idea of Ash remaining an Underdog and Turning Pokemon into the Japanese version of ''Dragon Tales''.
Writer/Director need to learn that Nobody likes an Underdog Protagonist! Fans simply loves the Odd , Challenge and Obstacles an Underdog protagonist faces.
I mean , Would you even consider A Trash like Trip a Challenge ? A Trash character that hide under an obvious Plot armor and Writer's Love will never be consider a challenge.
Truth is , Bringing a new trash who beat Ash 3 time a row will not be consider a challenge or Strong rival.
Example : Gary who didn't battle Ash at all in Kento yet became more popular rival then that trash Trip could even be.
Its all because Ash envied Gary and wanted to beat him the most !
BW Ash was the Worst Underdog in history But that doesn't mean people loved him.
Here is the obb an Underdog Protagonist Nobita (Doreamon) faces--

--He get bullied by a muscular Boy & A Rich Kid every day

--He trying to Woo the most prettiest and talented girl in School

--He trying to compete with the most handsome , Athletic , Intelligent and Popular kid in School for his crush's attention.

This are the challenge that an Underdog protagonist Nobita faces.
So , Does Ash faced any odd or challenge like that after Original series ? Truth is , Ash barely faced any real odd or Challenge at all.
Yet he still lose battle & League to the likes of Trip or Cameron.
Even now XY Series , Ash haven't faced any challenge at all ! He spending everyday fixing people roof , treating sick pokemon and help other people goal.
Like the Protagonists of ''Dragon Tales'' who spend every episode helping people and learning ''Life-lesson'' .
An Underdog protagonist with no odd or Challenge to overcome is even worst then a total OP Protagonist.

Trip wasn't trash but atleast he did have a personality, Paul on the other hand was nothing more but a Gary clone wanna be and he was far worster then Trip, the only good rival that Ash did have was Gary because they both had a lot of history together, they both wanted to become the greatest Pokemon master trianer's. We will never have another great rival like Gary because he was the best rival of the entire anime series, and i mean the Original series Gary not the new lame Gary.

We are backwards because we are putting all of the blame on BW when the blame should be put on the AG series since that's were the show started to go downhill and made Ash the worst underdog of the entire anime.

I'm pretty sure BW Ash do have some people that does love him, i mean Ash losing to Tobias was far more worster then him losing to Cameron. I can see why the show has went downhill and i also can see why the ratings are so low.

The XY series has been good so far, it also became the first series were Ash doesn't get a Grass type are even Fire type on his Kalos team, however getting rid of Goodra was a very bad idea since that Pokemon has become a powerhouse and should have stay on Ash's Kalos team.

If one looks at that list, you'll notice that XY is at the bottom. Just absolute dreadfulness that pretty much keeps escalating our speculation that the series may truly get cancelled by the time the 7th Gen games get announced.

Nope , He can't because he's a good boy .
Ash is a Good Boy that every Mommy & Papa wants!
So , Ash no longer has any connectivity with actual Kids that watch the show.
