Post comments are back! REJOICE!

Hmm, this is actually a good thing. I've never found the system very useful, and members would get particularly annoying at times.
Good decision, it was only, as "Jorah" said, a tool for trolling. Made trollers' jobs a lot easier, lol. :)

A feature that is only ever abused that's even more useless than the rep system before it? Heh. Good ridden.

Didn't know what it was, don't think we needed it.
I mean, what's the point of commenting on posts anyway?

You can find the prior post comments at the first post of this page. Post Comment a thanks later ;).

This function maybe have been a universal one. Where it can just go for one person it has to go for everybody. I can't speak for that though since I don't implement them. Like with rep I don't think it can just be restricted to select people, if it goes for a person it goes for everyone. Maybe a select user group can have it, but not everyone is Supporter, Mod, etc. You were supposed to report abuse of post comments in the first place then the action would be taken at the Mods discretion. And this wasn't about abuse issues it's about usage overall.

If they didnt report to the mods it is their problem since they where susposed to do so so it makes no sence to disable it completely the report option was there if it wasent used then its not anyone elses problem if they didnt report spamers trollls or whatever. never going to give up on this till the end of time

Telling someone that you like their posts, or what they could've included/excluded to maybe make the post better and stuff like that. If someone were to spend a lot of time, making a well constructed and over-all good post, it would probably be nice to get comments on them, but it doesn't always fit into the thread, or it just doesn't seem right to start a VM discussion about it, which is where post comments just made it easier. Though it seems people thought of it the same way as you, which is why it didn't get used so much :|

Anyways, the post comments was a great feature that I'll miss a lot, though I never got to know any of the other kinds of rep systems, so I don't know how good it actually is compared to the other kinds.

I don't see why you didn't just give members an option to disable it if they weren't able to handle the comments they were receiving. That would leave a lot less annoyed members while still allowing those who opposed it to carry on pretending it doesn't exist. I don't particularly agree with it just being taken away.

Good idea. I think this would also work well if all Post Comments displayed the identity of the person who sent them - this way, you couldn't be an anonymous troll or something of the sort.

For those of you who still want to access what post comments you had (this dated back to when rep was still around here), go to the link above and you can see all the post comments you ever got.

Thanks for the URL...although I'm wondering if there's also one that can display the ones we sent to other users...?

I love the url omg rep !! XD

LOL yeah; I was amused the first time I noticed it (which was a long time ago, probably when reputation was still existent here.)

Well... Unfortunate.
I would like to see more pre-decision referenda made on this site.

This (although, IMO, it seems that the staff does a pretty good job of this, for the most part. This sudden/unexpected removal of Post Comments is the only matter I've had an issue with in recent memory that was not adequately announced in advance).

I'm not really bothered by post comments being gone. I never used them except maybe once. I dont know if I was here when rep was here, but by how it sounds, everybody loved it. Maybe you guys could bring it back?

Eh...I guess some people somewhat like the concept of forum reputation in theory (as in, it is a rough representation of how much others perceive you in making good-quality, thought-out, and/or well-written posts - IIRC, that was the original intent of the "Reputation" feature on some/most forums)...except if you were one of the members who managed to see it actually in practice here (which IIRC basically and unfortunately boiled down to "who has the most green bars?"/"who's the most popular around here?"/"who doesn't suck around here?"), then you probably have an unfavorable opinion of it.

I kind of like the idea of how the feature works in theory, but if people are just going to do "contests" and make "cliques" just to earn green bars that, in the grand scheme of themes, have very little to no meaning, I'd rather have the Reputation feature disabled entirely (note that I do not mean Post Comments, but rather the Reputation Bar itself).

This. A shame that we have/had such difficulty with the rep feature on this forum due to certain users who apparently abused it. I'm only familiar with one other site that has used it, and they've somehow managed to keep the reputation feature enabled for quite a while, roughly since about the time that I first joined PokeCommunity. >.>

Anyway, veering back to the topic at hand, I think the suggestion of toggleable (as in, an option to enable/disable) Post Comments displaying the sender's username would help to curb some of the problem(s) associated with the feature. Those who don't want it don't have to worry about it, and those who still utilize the feature can still leave messages. Going by opinions of this thread, it doesn't seem like the feature went totally unused... :<

This!
I know it was considered dead, but it really wasn't, imo.

For starters, the 'abuse' was from a small contingent of the community, thus it wasn't just abused. Speak for yourself.

live wire im liking you more and more here. continuing my sadly pointless argument... Not everyone "abused" this privilege and we deserve to have it back its in the peoples hands to report to a mod about the "harassment" if they dont do that its not anyone elses problem. Lets keep it simple bring it back, ban people who harass, let eveyone live in peace other then taken away more privileges ._. never giving up on this

Hopefully knowing that we're revisiting the discussion will ease some of your minds!

This does appease certain worries of assumed hastiness on the decision. It is good to see it being revised.

There is but one simple method in of appealing to everyone in my mind. With the option of simply being able to disable the feature via your user CP, those who oppose the system being present need not use it, those who feel that they enjoy it and use it responsibly may use it. Simple as that. It has no long term impact on anything. If a member got abusive comments and felt that it was a big issue to them, all they need do is briefly let a higher staff member know and disable the system if they do not want it to happen again. Despite what anyone thinks, using the post comment system has never made you anonymous. A higher staff can check what you sent and who you sent it to with ease.

So with that said; I feel that doing everyone the service of making it an optional system would be doing the common good. It is not a large addition, but it is just as aesthetic as many other desired features on this forum.

An optional feature similar to the one that allows you to disable the silly fonts and postbit options would really rectify the issue.

There's really no reason why worse-off forums that are much less organized than ours can handle rep/post comments/etc, but we can't.

I agree with all the others. Why not just remove the anonymosity of post comments then?

I don't wanna be off-topic or anything, but did anyone notice the url? OMG REP!!! ._.

Yes I can imagine that's just a little joke because there was rep before. It's no big deal right. I still stand for either taking away anonymity or implement a disable option or something like that ;_;

Personally, I couldn't care less about this. I never once used this feature, so it's no big deal for me. And I see what everyone means by people abusing the anonymity of the system to send hateful comments. I think we're best off without the feature.

Hey guys! Due to the feedback from the community, we realized we made a mistake in disabling post comments. After discussing it, we decided to re-enable them since so many of you guys wanted them back! Sorry for the mistake, but they're back now yayayaya! So enjoy and rejoice!
