    Fitness games... you game?

With more and more fitness and active based games being released, what do you really think of them?
    • Do you think they will replace real life exercise for the cyber form?
    • Do you think they are a good idea? If not, why?
    • Do you own any? If not why?
    • Do you think you will ever own one? If not, why?

Personally, my parents got me EA Sports Active 2 as a Christmas present (I did ask for it, they ain't telling me something! XD)
I thought it would be a good idea, nice way to keep at least some form of exercise in my life, but my God, I didn't expect it to give me such a work out that I would be out of breath by the end of it.
It is a surprisingly good fitness game, offering nutritional advice, personal trainer with set programs and set weeks of what to do.

So PC, what do you think of them?

They may not be fitness games first, but I've been using Wii Sports and Just Dance 2 for a workout and it's beginning to show some results after two weeks of trying. As for just fitness games, I don't think I'd ever buy one. They seem kind of... dry?

That was my thought at first, but this one is very good.
It is a little annoying at the built in trainer going "You are rocking it today" or "You have set the perfect pace"

My resolution was to play Wii 1 hour every day. And yeah, I'll agree with parallelzero... it does begin to show results. I currently own Michael Jackson: The Experience, and trust me... it gives you a pretty good workout, just by doing some famous MJ moves. xD

Now that fitness games are starting to become a bit popular, they seem pretty good if you don't want to work out in the bitter cold or in the tiering heat. But still, a walk or a run outside is still good for ya!

I'm thinking about starting to play Wii Sports every day and maybe picking up something like EA Sports Active 2. I'm not big on going outside and running in the freezing cold or hellish heat, and I don't have exercise equipment, so it'd be a good way to get started with an exercise program. Plus it seems like fitness games wouldn't be quite as dry as just doing abstract exercises.

And with the advice I am giving you on MSN, you will be in ship shape in no time :3

Do you think they will replace real life exercise for the cyber form?: No I don't think so because some people still need to experience fresh air every once in a while.
Do you think they are a good idea? If not, why?: Yes because they encourage gamers who just sit on the couch all day to be active.
Do you own any? If not why?: Yes. Wii Sports.

For you guys planning to exercise with Wii Sports--what's your routine? What games are you playing to actually make a difference?

I'm not a big fan of fitness games, I've played WiiFit and it didn't impress me much, but I have to agree with you Captain Fabio, man do they give you a workout!

way before the wii existed people were "exercising" with Dance Dance Revolution. And then it came out on home consoles with the dance pads and even more people were "exercising" with it. And now they're doing the same with Wii games, whether they work depends on the person using it.

but i could see people using that instead of going to the gym but people are already investing in home gym sets, so the Wii could be supplementary.

Wii Sports won't do anything unless you're really getting into boxing.

Active and Active 2 are good. Although I don't have them.

Wii Fit and Fit Plus aren't so much weight loss focused (like EA Active is), more just... wellness? It corrected my posture and I do tone a bit when using it - but it hasn't helped me to lose weight.

He bought EA Sports 2, so I will make sure he keeps doing his daily routines haha.
I have EA Sports 2 and it is a lot better than I thought it would be.

Haha, I'm completely down! Anything to get in shape and play more games.

Haha. Well, I don't know about the WiiFit one, but with EA Sports 2, you can exercise with a friend. Not sure if you can online, but at least you could discuss it more with friends on here and, I guess, it would get you more active and willing to do it if someone else was doing it with you.

I haven't gotten EA Sports 2 though I'd love to. In fact I haven't even touched Wii Sports in ages. It'd make me feel better though, honestly. I haven't really played my Wii since we first got it. It feels like a giant expensive paperweight half the time.

Do you think they will replace real life exercise for the cyber form?
Definitely not. I know someone who's an avid gamer, but still goes to the gym. He's not switching to "pumping cyber muscles" any time soon, I don't think.

Do you think they are a good idea? If not, why?
I think they're alright. I mean, I'm not against them, so why would they be a bad idea? But I do think that the old fashioned exercise methods should still be adhered.

Do you own any? If not why?
I do not, because I get my exercise other ways. Plus I don't want to waste money on a fitness game. I'd rather waste money on a game with a plot!

Do you think you will ever own one? If not, why?
Probably not. I'm pretty fit, imo and that's without a fitness game. Don't fix what ain't broken.

Trust me, if I have the money to go to the gym I want to, I would go instead of doing the EA sports game. But, alas, I don't. So this is a way for me to keep, somewhat, fit.

I incorporate my own York weights into it, so I am actually pushing myself, so I am getting an benefit out of it.

    Problem:

You can't sing anime music while playing Wii Fit. Well, not easily, anyway.

I'll stick to belting out The Pillows lyrics and running people down on my bike.
