Because it's Borderlands.

The big letter in the background is the hiragana for "Ha" and the katakana going down the side spell out "Aisu".
 
Hmmm. It's actually straight up got a white background- not off-white, not transparent... white. No border. That's not good at all, man. It's also 13:11 ratio which is really weird. 1:1 is generally how I prefer avatars... others are fine if it shows off the pic advantageously. But 13:11... what even.

And I don't like whatever it features, really. It looks like a mish-mash of many things and I don't think it went well. Not as smooth of a combination as it could have been.

And also, its pixelated because its from the sprite, I am also very lazy to smoothen it.
