Red pressed A+B+Down!

I always held B down and tapped the down arrow. I still do that when I use emulators now. Force of habit really.

I used to do it all the time when I was playing Pokemon Blue and Silver when they originally came out. I recall pressing down the button so hard that the little "B" on the button would get imprinted on my thumb.

I don't do it anymore since I learned it doesn't help, but trust me, I was tempted to do so when I was trying to nab an Abra the other day on my newer copy of PKMN Silver.

Has anyone heard of shouting 'Gotcha!' into the microphone of a DS in a Gen 4 game? It's meant to improve your chances of catching a pokemon.
I always press L+R when I'm trying to catch something, but it doesn't really help.

I did as a naive child since I may as well have, it does no harm to the Gameboy after all, but haven't since the third generation. At the time I had decided on my own accord that holding select was the best way.

Habitually, I mash A&B alternatively until they stay in the ball and are caught. It's just the method that's had the most "success".

Okay. I admit that I do this too, b-down or a-b-down. But (and this is sorta weird), I think it works, at least a little bit (there are indeed random numbers in the equation to be generated). And I propose that any of us with legendary Pokemon left try this out. I have not yet come to facing Kyogre on HeartGold yet. Once I beat Red (I'm soooo underleveled), I'd like see how this goes.

So it doesn't drag out and we don't have incomparable data, let's all agree to use the same balls (so probably dusk or ultra), buy the same amount (50, 75, 99?), and say which Pokemon you plan to capture and whether or not you'll be pressing buttons (or what buttons you'll be pressing). It may be prudent to find a good False Swipe pokemon, and to not use status effects. Call me nuts, but I haven't seen anything where someone ripped the game apart and said "It doesn't work", and for the sake of inconsequential trivia, I'd like to see it done. But I need input first!

Any of y'all game?

I have the habit of A-mashing (superfast - I once counted around 25-30 mashes in the time between the ball leaving my animated hand and hitting the Pokemon) but in Gen 4, I've been mashing X instead. I only shout "Gotcha!" when no one else is around because it's a little embarrassing.

This thread seems to point more towards the games so it looks like off it goes to General Pokemon Gaming.

Oh, and I always used to press A and down but I stopped after the third generation

Even if I know it doesn't do anything to improve my chances of catching Pokemon, I still mash A while the ball is being thrown, then hold A, L, and R while the ball is wobbling. xD I mashed, then held, A back in the GBC days of Pokemon.

When I was young I would press the B button as many times as I could when trying to catch a Pokemon in Silver version.

But after I found out that pressing buttons had no effect and whether I caught a Pokemon or not was decided the moment I throw the Poke'Ball by a mathematical equation I stopped.

Best Sig EVER!

Anyway, the same as above, except I always thought that pressing (B) gave you less of a chance of catching a Pokemon, and press (A) rapidly gave you a higher chance.

This is my most effective method that I have used since Emerald:

As the ball is launching toward the pokemon, vigorously tap the a button. As the ball closes, I press and hold the A button.

It works for me most the time. Even on pokes that I don't inflict damage to or give status problems. That or I am just lucky.

Way back when I think I tried some out. But I don;t think I really even believed them that much then.

I don't do it anymore.

A. A. A. A. A. Repeat about a million times.

The A button's probably the most abused one on my Game Boy Advance SP. The wonders of plastic...!

Anyway, I still mash the A button out of habit, and will probably continue to do so in the future for a loooooong time. It's similar to how people move in jerky motions and wildly flail around the TV while playing Super Smash Bros. or other fighting games, even though such motions have a minimal effect on playing style (a habit I engage in as well!:))
The 'minimal effect' idea is untrue with the Wii, which makes you move around like a crazed person... :P

I heard that repeatedly pressing A+B during the PokeBall capture animation can trigger Decamark's appearance, though (the ?????????? Pokemon that's a glitched white-on-black question mark circle thing)...

I used to mash the buttons until about last week :/
Before that though, I just mashed every button since it "always" worked for me before.

Oh man, well once again, math takes all of the fun out of what I do in pokemon games.

Anyway, I usually repeatedly press A+B when I throw a pokeball. I thought it used to work, but now that I found out it doesn't, I'm depressed :(.

Just kidding. I just do it so that I'm less upset when the popkemon eventually breaks free. It's a stress reliever.

I used to hold Down + B. XD
Just as everyone else will tell you, it felt like it was working.
Now I just stare at the screen and try to will the pixely Pokemon to stay in the equally pixely ball.

I still ALWAYS hold Up+B, just a habit I picked up in RBY. I know it doesn't help but it makes me feel like it does :P
