Origin history: Originally, his parents were King Gerald II and Queen Janet, the rulers of Northland, an ancient medieval kingdom that one outsider might have called a utopia, filled with exotic fruit and sunny weather. But underneath this facade of heaven laid, as always, a dark secret. The King and Queen were indebted to a legendary creature. Named only as Eterna. The founder of Northland made a deal with Eterna.
In exchange of defending their land from the elements, and fertilizing their land, providing them with this ideal kingdom, they must keep Eterna secret from everyone exluding the king and the heir and when their first child, the next heir, reaches seven years old, the child will be taken and brought up by Eterna.
This mystery entity promised to grant the heir magical powers when the heir is released at 18. The powerful familiar seemed to yearn to be mentor and a guardian. For the founder, this was a win-win deal, his son (and all heirs for eternity will be safe and protected as well as a studious life, and he would forever have a rich harvest.
But several hundred years on, when Gerald married Janet who hailed of a rival nation, called Zudera. Janet's father, Andre, became very defensive. He saw this as an attempt to inherit his country's territory. Gerald and Janet decided that if he didn't think that he would usurped, he wouldn't attack, so to pull this off she would have to keep any children she had hidden from him. The alternative would be breaking the deal with Eterna and leaving Northland without an heir, leaving it in civil war and turmoil
Still sceptical of their assurance that they wouldn't have a child, Andre placed Zuderian spies in Northlands. When the time came for Bartholomew to be surrendered to Eterna. Zuderian spies found out about Bartholomew. Feeling betrayed. Andre raised his forces and assaulted Northland.
Gerald looked to Eterna for help. Eterna said it was impossible to ensure the safety of their country from the attack and their son. Gerald had became very attached to Bartholomew and refused to make him suffer because of politics. In a final descision he told Eterna to protect Bartholomew forever, and let Northland fall. In the charge of the massive army of Zudera. Northland perished. The entire lands was subjected to a scorched earth tactic.
Now, in this aftermath of the noble sacrifice, Bartholomew was subjected to isolation in never-ending life. The world changed around the Castle, the Mountain grew around it, the snow covered the outside of the castle. Centuries stretched in to milennia. With time both beings maddened, Eterna took to tormenting the heir with nightmares and loneliness, in repayment of his refusal to learn from Eterna.
Bartholomew grew lonely, turning to his playthings to play with, little did he know his gift was the gift of influencing monstrous creatures by the strings of his puppets. He commanded his puppets with a regal authority, but with the absent mindedness of a child. A child who kills hundreds with his toys.
