HG/SS: i was in the ruins of alph and my unown started freaking out when i tried to talk to him, i know it is trying to communicate but is still pretty scary
(this thread is just an general discussion about the ruins, please put HG/SS or D/P/Pt before your post)

I always try to do the puzzles, cause yay puzzles :P

I've never bothered with an unown, I've found them to be a complete and utter waste of space :P

I pretty much love wandering around there though: Natus and an Old Amber once you're far enough into the game, because who doesn't love aerodactyl :)

Ehhh the ruins are no big deal to me at all and I really only explore them now for the Pokedex entry.

I definitely preferred the Ruins of Alph to every other place where you find Unown. FRLG's area wasn't bad, I just lose interest usually. Never actually took an Unown there as my lead pokémon though (I like to get the photo with Arceus and 5 Unown, 1 of which is hidden behind my player xD).

I didn't have much of an opinion on the Ruins of Alph. The place itself was pretty fascinating with all of the Unown inscriptions that I couldn't be bothered to translate but other than that I didn't find much interest in it. The puzzles were pretty fun to play around with and you could get some useful Pokemon around the area, but I mainly came just for the purpose of Pokedex entries and playing around with the puzzles. I never knew there were Old Ambers around the place though, might go exploring around the area again just to find one. :p

I didn't spend too much time at the Ruins of Alph, but it had a nice set of puzzles and caverns to explore to get away from the main storyline a bit. I completed all the puzzles, but found Unkown useless so didn't bother to catch any.

I was more interested in completing all of the puzzles around the Ruins of Alph than I was actually catching them all (in fact, I'd already caught all of them in Fire Red and just Pal Parked them over to HeartGold to complete my Unown Dex).

The actual ruins themselves have one of my favorite background musics in the game though, especially when using the GB Sounds. It has just the right level of creepy when listening to it to get it stuck in your head for a long time.
