hello!!!
this is my first post on here of hopefully many more to come!
last month was probably the luckiest i have ever been in terms of shiny hunting, as i was blessed with 5 entire full odds shinies, some of which i've always wanted to have! the first one is a swablu i found in my pokemon x version while grinding hordes on route 21.
some may argue that horde shinies are not full odds, but i personally consider horde hunting to basically be the same as multi system hunts. you're not directly increasing the directly odds per se, merely increasing the amount of pokemon you see at the same time, making hunts sometimes go by faster.
in any case, i quite like swablu's shiny colours! it's a very pleasant shade of yellow, and makes for quite the nice motif with the cloudy wings.
i kinda realised retroactively that i actually have a bit of a storied past when it comes to this particular shiny, it just keeps unexpectedly coming back into my life somehow.
shiny swablu was one of the first shiny forms i ever saw because of a pokemon-platinum-expansion-tcg-cardlist-poster i used to have, a set in which it's one of the three secret rares. it was also the first shiny i ever got in pokemon go at a time when they were only first being introduced to the game.
needless to say, i've grown quite attached to shiny swablu. i might even use this particular one during a future playthrough.
the second shiny i found this month is a shiny sneasel!
sneasel is one of my absolute favourite pokemon. i love this weasel cat youkai thing so much. its shiny colours took me a while to get used to, but nowadays, it's one of my favourite shinies ever. the hot pink and orangish yellow are such a drastic change from its original edgy color scheme of black/dark blue and red, topped off with the light blue gems, and it somehow works? this one's a male too, meaning that the feather on its head is longer and further accentuates the asymmetry in the design, which i adore. though this is rendered kinda moot by the fact that i evolved it...

(note: i ended up renaming him beacause i wasn't satisfied with the original name)
yeah so the status screen said it likes to battle so i thought it would be fitting to both train him up and unlock his full combat potential by evolving him into a weavile, a pokemon that i also do quite like in its own right, especially with the sprite it has in hgss. i ev trained him in both speed and attack, and he will make for a powerfull ally within the battle frontier.
this month also marked the first time i ever got a gen 3 game!
i managed to procure a firered for an unreasonably reasonable price, and decided that my first playthrough of this game would be a dream team quest, the first member of which is this shiny charmander!
charmander is another one of my absolute favourite pokemon, and shiny charizard has my absolute favourite shiny ever (pretty basic, i'm aware). i quite like the gold on this little guy, but you really have to see it in person to truly understand how vibrant this shade is. game boy advance games were intentionally made quite saturated in order to be better visible on the backlightless screen of the original wide model, so his vivid gold really stands out on a ds screen. i actually ended up putting in the time to ev train him as soon as possible as to not waste potential points on stats he wouldn't really take advantage of. due all the grinding i had to do, and the fact that i played through the first section of this game with pretty much just this guy on my team, he ended up fully evolving into charizard before the third gym.
i don't really feel i need to elaborate on why i like this shiny so much, it just looks really neat. combing black/dark blue with red is just a perfect recipie for making your pokemon look incredibely cool in certain way. seeing these colours on the inconic frlg sprite fills me with tremendous joy, and i'm very grateful it only took me 2235 resets to get him. getting this shiny charizard truly was a dream come true.
and then i got a shiny graveler in my heartgold
not exactly what i had in mind when i started hunting on route 45, but a pretty shiny nevertheless. this guy snuk up on me while i was listening to ronald's theme from the pokemon tcg gb game, which probably has one of the most underrated soundtracks in video game history. seriously, there are so many great tracks in this game, i highly recommend anyone who's got the time to give this ost a listen! i actually nearly ended up missing him because i was trying to remove some marker that had gotten on my teacup for, uh, reasons, and only realised this guy had appeared when i was about to get up. i ended up employing the help of my trusty quagsire in order to prevent any 'unfortunate developments', and ended up catching him in a heavy ball. overall, i'm quite pleased with this shiny! i feel like getting a shiny graveler or geodude is kind of like a rite of passage for any aspiring shiny hunter due to how common these two are in the first four generations, and also in how they teach the valuable lesson of always being prepared for every given encounter on the route you're currently hunting on due to their tendency to blow up.
oh and i also ended up getting my actual target.
gligar! what a silly guy! it's one of those fun gen 2 one stage cryptids that would eventually get an evolution. i really like its design, it's such a non threatning looking pokemon for something that is based on both a quite threatning animal (the flying scorpion) and alien facehuggers of all things. its regular colours used to be notouriously inconsistent, ranging from a variety of pinks and purples, but its shiny had always stayed within the lines of greyish blues. a very pretty shiny!
i ended up evolving this one too actually.
gliscor is one of my favourite cross gen evolutions, though i like it for pretty different reasons compared to gligar. where as gligar is cute and silly, gliscor leans far more into actually genuinely looking like a powerful threat, especially with its edgy colorscheme. it's also really fun to use in battle! gliscor is incredibely versatile due to its stats, typing, moveset and its later on introduced hidden ability, allowing it to be tanky, hit hard, have a lot of utility, and also be suprisingly fast at the same time. what were we talking about again? oh, right, shiny pokemon! gliscor has a really interesting shiny, turning a very specific shade of blue. this, combined wih the black cape and the yellow highlights makes for quite the striking appearance! i actually ended up preparing some moon balls for this specific occasion beacause their colour perfectly matches shiny gliscor, and it looks great! i'm very much looking forward to taking on the battle tower with him once i get the rest of the team assembled!
aaaaand that's march all wrapped up! again, this is probably the luckiest i have ever been, maybe even the luckiest i will ever be in terms of shiny hunting. i had been hunting on and off in both my 8192 and 4096 for the past few years, and it was a very welcome suprise to see four shinies from the former category after not getting any since, uh, may of last year apparently. some kind of curse must have been laid upon my ds games that had finally been lifted by the appearance of a pink sneasel.
part of the reason for why i hunted so much last month is because i don't actually know how much time i'll have in the near future, so i tried to put in my all as long as things were a bit more certain. if i do find any shinies though, i'll make sure to post them on here eventually!
anyways, that's all from me. good luck and happy hunting!
