    I liked Lance as a kid because I had a boxer dog named Lancer who I love so much and I would always tell people that my dog was the champion lol{XD}

I love Lance. He's always been one of my favorites, and I would not complain at all if he came back in one of the new games. He seems like the type of trainer that would travel to other regions for the journey, or to get stronger. I hope he shows up again. Still have my fingers crossed.

Oh, that's right! I forgot Cynthia and Steven appeared in HG/SS. They were such minor appearances, and it's been so long since I've played those games haha. I definitely see your point then, Lance has been a little bit neglected :c

For whatever reason, Steven and especially Cynthia have very large and vocal fanbases, so they keep on getting tons of attention and promotion compared to other characters. Sad as it may be, it actually shocks me that the latter wasn't stuffed into either XY or ORAS.

And, Steven's gotten more attention with ORAS alone than Lance EVER got with FRLG and HGSS combined, whether it be the Mega Evolution specials, the enhanced role in ORAS, or even just his new artwork being revealed early on.

On the flip side, Lance didn't get so much as a anime CAMEO with HGSS (thus, he's pretty much ceased to exist on the anime now, not unlike the likes of Porygon, Jynx, and Kadabra--not a single appearance or reference since the failed Groudon vs Kyogre finale from 11 years ago), and the version of him in Origins hardly existed enough to even be considered a character. And, Lance's role wasn't expanded one bit in FRLG and was only marginally so in HGSS (basically the Dragon's Den battle and that's it). Talk about screwed over.

Personally... Eh.. Well he does help you infiltrate Team Rocket in G/S and the remakes, and he's one of the few Elite Four members in Pokemon to not have a mono-type team (which actually is a good thing considering that a lot of types have one predictable and common weakness which makes them easy to defeat if you know what you're doing, and also doesn't really make that much logical sense once you think about it. I can see favoring a certain type. I can't see having several different Elite Four teams, Dragon in particular, that have all Dragon types with little to no type variation. Especially since a lot of Pokemon are draconian in nature; you can still have a dragon Pokemon that just lacks the Dragon typing. The heck is up with that?)

But I dunno about him appearing just for the sake of appearing. You just happened to run into him all of one time outside of the Pokemon League (not counting that dual battle with Silver, which was awesome), and that was mainly because you both happened to be investigating Team Rocket. Steven and Cynthia you meet up with before they end up getting involved in the enemy's schemes, and both actively mentor the player character during the course of the story. It would be really awesome if you both end up investigating the evil team of the week, but I can't really see him just kinda chilling out and being a bonus boss.

And as for Wallace... Well he's a fruitcake. A challenging fruitcake, but a fruitcake nonetheless. That just kinda leaves you to fetch a giant flying behemoth on your own as the world is ending. What a swell guy. :/

Lance has already appeared in so many games, and given I'm not that much of a fan of him I'm totally fine with him not returning in future games.

No, he really hasn't. Half of his appearances are from remakes (he would've never appeared in Gens 3 or 4 if not for Gens 1 and 2 being remade), and he's never been seen or heard from in other regions besides Kanto/Johto.

Your statement should really say, "Steven has already appeared in so many games, and given I'm not that much of a fan of him I'm totally fine with him not returning in future games."

Or, "Cynthia has already appeared in so many games, and given I'm not that much of a fan of her I'm totally fine with her not returning in future games."

He and Red should appear they both have the best battle theme ever.

    #johtoftw

Uh, Red has zero connection to Johto. ~_~

true he doesnt have MANY connections with johto but whatever he's still cool anyway

i agree in the part where steven and cynthia appear in too many games. They should make Wallace appear more imo he was amazing in ORAS

There's nothing really "Johto" about Espeon, and there's no such thing as a "Johto Champ." Neither Kanto or Johto have their own League (unlike other regions like Hoenn and Sinnoh). I'll give you Mt. Silver, though.

Wallace is underrated. I liked him in Emerald, and I wish they had made him Champion again in ORAS. But, alas, Steven's the one that most of the fans prefer, so he gets all the attention. :rolleyes2:

The worship of Cynthia disgusts me. I don't find anything even remotely interesting or appealing about this woman (or her cheap ass, overrated team), and yet, she gets constantly crammed down our throats as the Greatest Thing Ever.

And, no, even Gen 6 hasn't fully escaped the blight of Champion Barbie. Behold, the Cynthia Nendoroid. :rolleyes2: Yes, because who gives a crap about the Champions who are actually A PART of this Gen, right? Especially, the one who was actually INTRODUCED in this Gen and has hardly gotten any spotlight or promotional material to begin with. The only thing that surprises me is that they didn't make Garchomp a Mega. :rolleyes2:

Hey now, don't hate lol. I have that Nendoroid right next to my laptop, Cynthia is the best champion in the series.

On topic, though. Lance has been in many games:

Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, FireRed, LeafGreen, HeartGold, SoulSilver, B2W2, and not to mention all of the spin-off games like Stadium.

I'm fine with not seeing him for a bit, unless it were something like the World Tournament again in B2W2. Besides, he's probably one of my least favorite champions. I feel like Wallace gets the least recognition. I also think that Alder was a cool champion (although with a super lame team), and was sorely disappointed when he was replaced with Iris.

Why have an old character when we can just have a new, different character with a different design and personality? There's no sense in bringing him back when we can just have a new Dragon trainer.

Because, some people like him and not those other characters? :rolleyes2: I love Lance, but I'm indifferent at best to Drake, Drayden, and Iris.

Blue is the best champion in the series.

    Fixed it for 'ya. ;)

Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, FireRed, LeafGreen, HeartGold, SoulSilver, B2W2, and not to mention all of the spin-off games like Stadium.

Remakes and originals don't count as separate entities, IMO. Still the same region and story, just different graphics. And, his B2W2 appearance was a generic default appearance (of questionable canonicity) that every other non-E4 character from Gens 1-5 made, so it doesn't count either. And, I don't recall him being in any spinoffs besides Stadium 1-2 and Puzzle Challenge (the GBC one, NOT the N64 Puzzle League). Note that he had no dialog in Stadium 1.

Narrowing it down, that leaves us with:

    1. Gen 1
    2. Gen 2
    3. Stadium 1
    4. Stadium 2
    5. Puzzle Challenge

Aka, the two most outdated Gens, a couple of N64 games, and a mostly-forgotten GBC game. And, he was hardly a character in one of them (Stadium 1), as well as arguably in another (Gen 1).

What about outside/promotional stuff? Well, I've never seen any dolls or figurines of him, nor has he ever been on any trading cards outside of one semi-obscure set that was never released outside of Japan. All I can remember is him with awful miscolored hair appearing on a couple of (mostly-forgotten) board game cards in the late 90s:

    Should Lance Return

What about the anime? Only two appearances (both in two-episode pairs), the last of which aired a whopping 11 years ago. He has never been seen or even heard from since then. Not bad by the standards of E4 members (who rarely ever appear on the show to begin with), but not so good for a Champion.

So, no, Lance is not even CLOSE to being "overexposed." If anything, he's been neglected.

It would be nice to see Lance's role in the Pokemon games expanded upon. He's one of my favorite Champions and it feels so long ago since I last played Soul Silver. I'm kinda hoping he will make an appearance in the next region. Kalos was a bit similar to Kanto. Maybe the next region can be similar to Johto.
Plus we still don't have a mega Dragonite. If anyone could have a Mega Dragonite in the future it would and should be Lance. And Dragonite is such a classic gen 1 pokemon, that it would be a shame if it never got a mega. Blue has the mega Kanto starters, Steven has Metagross, Cynthia Garchomp, and Diantha Gardevoir. Gen V has yet to get megas, but I'm sure Iris and Alder will get one. So why not bring Lance back and give him a mega evolution story arc?

    Guys calm down :(

Anyway imo Cynthia is just a bit overrated she is definitely not the best champion, she IS the most challenging but the best? Hell no. Other than being challenging, I don't see why people love her that much.

It really doesn't matter, Red still is in the Johto games.

Agree 100%. Her character is beyond overrated.

What? Espeon is everything about Johto. It is a Johto Pokemon after all.

Gen 2 Pokémon =/= Johto Pokémon. Eevee is not native to Johto, so neither is Espeon. :P

And um...Lance doesn't have any Johto pokemons :P

Magikarp and Dratini are native to Johto. In fact, Dratini is far more Johto than it is Kanto. It could only ever be obtained from either the Safari Zone or the Game Corner in Kanto, while it can actually be found in the wild in Johto.

Plus, Lance himself is from Johto, so that alone makes him a Johto trainer.

I would welcome Lance making an appearance in future Games. I imagine we will get a Mega Dragonite at some point and Dragonite is Lance's signature Pokémon. Whilst I have not played the Johto games to any extent I enjoyed facing Lance and his Dragons in the Kanto games.

Perhaps they could also introduce a Mega Kingdra and have Lance as a Bonus Boss Double Battle with Clair.

Lance could appear again but in the last couple of games it wasn't necessary for him to appear. In Unova they wanted to focus on the native characters and dragon specialists (Drayden/Iris), and Kalos doesn't seem to have a strong dragon myth tradition.

The only reason Cynthia was in Unova was fanservice. Steven had a slightly bigger role in HGSS, because of the Lati@s, and he seemed a little better suited for that than Wallace.

It wasn't necessary for Steven to be in HGSS or for Cynthia to be in BW/B2W2, and yet, there they were. Cameos in games are clearly nothing but a big popularity contest, and sadly, Lance has drawn the short end of the stick. :(

I thought Steven and Cynthia sort of made sense in HGSS due to their role as introducing you to the Hoenn and Sinnoh legendaries, respectively. But Cynthia in BW/BW2 was pretty random haha. Not that I think that's a bad thing, since I do like Cynthia, but it'd be nice to see Lance get it too! ^_^

Which begs the question of why the Hoenn and Sinnoh Legendaries were even in HGSS to begin with. The Hoenn ones, I could possibly understand, due to RSE becoming harder to access by that point (the DSi had already come out and they were starting to phase out GBA games), but there was no good reason for the Sinnoh Legends being there at all. Anybody who wanted the Creation Trio could've just gotten DPP and be done with it. All they wanted was an excuse to shove Cynthia into another game. :rolleyes2:
