Suggestion: Signature/avatar/CSS requests forum/thread

So what I was just thinking is that for Art and Design, if someone is looking for a user - any user, regardless of who - to help them make something like a signature, an avatar or CSS layout, there could be one of two things:

    1. A sub-forum where you can make a thread for your own personal request asking for any of these things, where someone comes along and makes it at their leisure.

    2. "Quick request" topics in the main forum for avatars, signatures and CSS layouts where they can be requested whenever.

I make this suggestion considering there may not be that many people around to take requests for these things, and people may want them made. I for one am looking for help with a CSS layout so I can attempt to start a club.

    Discuss.

There are already shops in A&D though. That way, you don't get stuck with someone whose work you might not like making a theme you request. For example, I might want Derozio to make me an avatar, but Anna does my request and it wasn't what I was looking for because I preferred Dero's style to Anna's for avatars. With the way shops are now, you can request a sig or avatar from someone specific and have a good idea of what the turnout will be. As far as CSS goes though, I'm not sure how that's handled in there. Not sure if that would really fall under A&D spectrum though because that's coding and not really art or design (in a sense, anyway). That's Fairy's call, though.

PS: Both Dero and Anna make awesome avatars, just had to use them as examples. :P I'd recommend both if you ever need a kick ass avatar.

Well that response didn't take long. :P Anyway...

Yeah, I know there are shops but it doesn't look like Dante's (i'm just gonna call him that since that's what I knew him as for a while) has been posted in for a long time. And one of the shops currently open just looks like a sprite shop. I know Lilith has had a lot less free time since she got her job but I hope she hasn't forgotten her shop and may come back to it sometime... I have never commented on Anna's, though (I have seen peeks of her work), I may have to give that a check.

This idea kinda came to me based on something that they have over on Marriland (a sig/avvy request forum), so I brought it up for consideration here.

They were just examples, haha. I know Mario did art requests, but he's been away for a bit as well. I was mainly pointing out that we do already have that service, it's just up to whoever is offering it and who has the time for it, really. Which, of course, most people aren't going to have time for it right now with school starting back recently. But we'll see what Fairy has to say on it. I'm no A&D expert, haha. :P

I think that just means you need to dive a little bit deeper to see what's out there. People will still do commissions for you if you go out to each of their shops. In retrospect, a CSS/Art request thread would ultimately be a duplicate of other people works/be taking away traffic from shop owner's threads who might want that activity.

In retrospect though, what about this for an alternative: a master list of all the shops in Art & Design that are organized and classified by the medium in which they produce their art. This way, users can easily locate the medium in which they would like their signature/avatar to be made in without losing activity for shop owners, but can be used as an available directory for quick and easy access.

I would just like to chime in that I love doing CSS and making signatures look pretty but I would never open a shop. But if a CSS request thread showed up I would be posting in it.

Dropping obligatory "my section" post in here. :)

I've tried implementing remedies to this solution in the form of a singular thread, where users looking for an avatar, signature, sprite, profile, CSS work, anything can post and have their requests taken up. However, threads like this tend to die quickly or collect nothing but requests with no one answering them; and it is far too much work to do on my own.

The other option was to abolish the rule all together and allow people to post legitimate request threads under the condition they have 100+ posts (or something that prevents an over abundance of request threads). This, however, also suffers a lack of people wanting to fulfill requests and sort of makes the idea of shops moot.

Artists are a fickle group, and we tend to work on and off accordingly. Sometimes you'll find there are dry spells of a certain medium in A&D. It's not anyone's fault, but it's something that cannot be avoided because of the nature of what we work with. Personally, I wish some of the more artistically inclined members would begin posting in A&D, as we now accept CSS designs, profile screenshots, and other forum/digital mediums; but I understand not everyone wants the responsibility of running a shop or updating a gallery.

But, Stargazer, I do want you to know that I have personally tried to implement more CSS based arts in A&D because I believe the creativity is present and the demand warrants it. You.. have to understand the fallibility of art as opposed to Pokemon, which remains rather constant on PC.

Along with Oryx, I'm also personally willing to take on your request to make up for some of A&D's shortcomings. I'm sorry it's hard to find what you need right now, but I hope you know that in no way reflects how A&D always runs or my personal investment in the issue.

Yeah, the aforementioned forum I mentioned on Marriland (the Sig/Avvy requests forum there) does tend to go unnoticed fairly commonly, with request topics that don't get any replies, so I did think this would be noticed too.

Just so you're aware, technically CSS requests are allowed in the CSS Help & Resources thread too. I've seen them done there in the past, and I really have no problem with that, as long as users don't get too abrasive and demanding about their requests.

Well that's helpful, I don't believe there would be requests like that in a help thread. But I may consider that.

Thanks for the offers, i'm not in any serious avatar/sig need at the moment but I was just proposing something to help those that might be in the near future.
