3rd Gen Simple Questions

Where is Chansey? Is she only in the Safari Zone, or can you catch her at Cerulean Cave, like in R/B/Y?

And if she is only in the Safari Zone, can you still get the elusive item, Lucky Egg, From her?

Yes, Chansey is available only in the Safari Zone. Since it's so difficult to find AND catch one, I recommend breeding if you want the Lucky Egg.

So, if I breed i'll get the lucky egg?, Hmm I wouldn't think so because otherwise wouldn't it be too easy to get?, ah well tell me if Im wrong,But Ive gotta breed me some Chanseys!

Tiny Mushrooms - you might be able to get a few if you catch a Paras, either in Mount Moon, Rock Tunnel or Safari Zone . You might even be able to get a big mushroom if you get a Parasect (in the Safari Zone).

Alrighty, two questions. Where is the darn move deleter!? I've looked ever where for him. And also, where can I find me some tiny mushrooms?

Move deleter is in Fuschia City, next door to the Pokemon center.

That is incorrect. You CANNOT get the Lucky Egg through breeding. You can only get it by catching Chansey in the Safari Zone and hoping that 5% of the time it holds the Lucky Egg is the same time you catch it.

Ah Ha, thats what I thought, it sounded to easy to get the item if you could breed them!

Where can I get these items from?

Blackbelt
Focus Band
Kings Rock

Ok here they are!:

Blackbelt: There's an infinite supply of Black Belts being held by an Hitmonchan and a Hitmonlee possessed by the Crush Kin on Route 15, Just get a Kadabra from Ceraluen cave, as it already knows thief, and just keep trying to steal them!

Focus Band: Wild Machokes 5% chance, so you'll have to catch yourself a few

King's Rock: Pickup, Sevault Canyon(bottom left hand corner with strength/rocksmash
puzzle)

There they are, Hope I helped!

Personally I would HIGHLY suggest you not use the Black Belt, or any other of the crappy one type increasing moves. The 10% increase for that one move isn't worth it. Focus Band and King's Rock aren't much better. Those low percentage items make it seem like your Poke isn't holding anything at all, most of the time. What you want for held items are things that will benefit your Poke no matter what. Leftovers, Shell Bell, Choice Band, White Herb, and even some berries (Lum, Chesto, and Salac to name a few) are infinitely better than the rest of the items you will find in the game.

The Legendary Pokes are the same in both versions:

Articuno
Zapdos
Moltres
Mewtwo

The Legendary Dog depends on which starter you began with:

Entei (Bulbasaur)
Raikou (Squirtle)
Suicune (Charmander)

Is there ANY Pokemon that has a chance to beat Lorelei's Ice Pokemon? I know electric pokemon are probably the ones that have the best chance, but the only one I have that is Level 50 is Zapados. And it bites the dust pretty fast.

I used my pikachu against her( now a raichu) and she owned all her water/ice pokemon. You should raise an electric pokemon not sure which one I went with pikachu but you could choose diferently. But seriously Zapdos is part flying and one Ice Beam and he's out.

And what happens if you run from a legendary pokemon?

Fighting Types have an advantage over Ice which I don't know how many people know about, the only problem then would be Jynx

There are quite a few Pokes that can easily handle Lorelei's pathetic team of Pokes. Keep in mind that the only resistance an Ice-type has is against Ice. Besides Fighting/Fire/Rock/Steel (that do 2x damage), all the other types in the game do normal damage. That is why most of her Pokes are dual-types, but that really just makes it easy to defeat her.

Too many people think you have to match types. What you need is either a strong physical or special attacker and it rips through Lorelei quite easily. I did it with Butterfree and then Raichu. Butterfree used Sleep Powder to put her lead Poke (Dewgong) to sleep, then I switched to Raichu, made a Substitute, and then swept her entire team without taking a single hit. Don't feel like you have to limit yourself to Electric-types either. Alakazam can do the same with a STAB Psychic. ANY Poke with Rock Slide and/or Earthquake makes quick work of that team. A Fighting-type or a different type Poke with a Fighting move blows through her team too.

That is the problem with the in-game. It teaches trainers that it is better to exploit weaknesses through types rather than through stats because all the trainers you face have horribly unbalanced teams that typically only take one type to destroy.

Thanks for the tips. I caught a Machoke so maybe I'll go use it and train it up using the VS Seeker.

I just want to get that part done with, but I may wait until Diamond/Pearl comes out so I can transfer my FireRed Pokemon.

Of each vanilla type pokemon (and the very few that are dual-types that really, really exceed in this department), what are the strongest Pokes of each type?

What I mean is, which Poke from each type has the highest IV set?

Actually, IV sets have nothing to do with a type of Poke. A Cleffa has the same opportunity to have the same IV set as a Mewtwo. There are no limitations.

As for what you are asking, it is hard to specify the "best" Poke of each type. It all depends on what role you are talking about. Is it the best physical attacker of each type, or the best special attacker, or the best defensive, the most versatile, etc., etc. It is much easier to identify the crappy Pokes of each type (i.e. Luvdisc, Delcatty, Farfetch'd, Absol, etc.) than it is best. That said, I will attempt my best to do so from a competitive standpoint. Since there are many dual-typed Pokes in the game, I guess the only fair thing to do would be to judge them by their Type 1. For instance, since Swampert is Water/Ground, it will be considered in the Water group (where it suffers) instead of the Ground group (where it excels). The only exception would be the Flying-type of course, since there no Pokes with Flying as the primary.

At any rate, here is the list:

Bug: Heracross

Definite no brainer here. Best. Bug. Ever.

Dark: Umbreon

Wins not only because of its versatility, but because Tyranitar's Type 1 is Rock instead of Dark..

Dragon: Rayquaza (Legendary) and Salamence

See Heracross for Rayquaza. Salamence barely edges out Dragonite for its speed and better movepool.

Electric: Zapdos (Legendary) and Jolteon

Zapdos get the nod over Raikou due to typing and better movepool. Jolteon would be one of the best Pokes in the game if it had a better movepool, but still wins out since Electrics in general are limited.

Fighting: Machamp

Hands down, mainly because Heracross is considered Bug for our purposes.

Fire: Ho-oh (Legendary) and Blaziken

Ho-oh has no equal. Blaziken wins due to its versatility. It can attack physically or specially, and do both effectively. Charizard needs help and Arcanine has crap for a movepool.

Flying: Dodrio

This type is limited to the Normal/Flying variety. Dodrio runs away with this. Best Flying-move. Best base Atk. Best base Spd. That is all that matters.

Ghost: Gengar

No brainer.

Grass: Celebi (Legendary) and Venusaur

Celebi, duh. Venusaur edges out Sceptile mainly due to the fact that it handles Sceptile's best moveset better. It cannot use Leaf Blade, but it doesn't need to.

Ground: Groudon and Flygon

Another duh with Groudon. Flygon's Type 1 is Ground and is a much better physical attacker with STAB Earthquake than special attacker with STAB Dragon Claw anyway.

Ice: Regice and Walrein

Regice narrowly beats Articuno mainly because of it being able to special wall so well and it doesn't have the Flying weaknesses that Articuno does. Walrien mainly wins by default since Lapras and Cloyster Type 1 is Water and not Ice.

Normal: Snorlax

Snorlax is not only the best Normal-types in the game, but arguably THE best Poke in the game (excluding ubers). That said, it almost loses out to Blissey if it wasn't for the fact that it can cause severe damage while Blissey cannot.

Poison: Weezing

Weezing's Trait is what makes it the best. While Crobat also is immune to Ground attacks, it also packs a weakness to Electric/Ice/Rock that Weezing does not.

Psychic: Mewtwo (Legendary) and Alakazam

You could make a case for Lugia and Deoxys-F, but Mewtwo has the offense that Lugia doesn't and has the defenses that Deoxys-F can only dream about. Mewtwo is too well-rounded for its own good. It still falls to Tyranitar and Groudon pretty easily though. Alakazam is the best only because of its HUGE movepool and its speed, making it more versatile than both Espeon (horrible movepool) and Gardevoir (too slow).

Rock: Tyranitar

Best. Rock. Ever.

Steel: Jirachi (Legendary) and Skarmory

No explanations needed.

Water: Kyogre (Legendary} and Milotic

It's Kyogre. This is the hardest type to really judge since there are so many good choices. Going strait Water though, it is Milotic, especially if it has the proper nature (ALWAYS Bold) and IVs/EVs. Swampert and Lapras get honorable mention. Gyarados would too if its movepool didn't completely suck.

That's about it. While each type can still be open to interpretation, that is basically the best of the best.

Great, thanks for the list.

In Pokemon Fire Red, I have found the single Sun Stone and evolved a Gloom to Bellossom. Now, where is the stone that I can use to evolve the Eevee to an Umbreon? Also, with Skarmory, is it better to breed one rather than catch it in the wild due to the fact that there are so few steel moves it can actually learn? (It can learn Steel Wing via level, that's it).

Also, where can I get the two dragon pokemon you mentioned? (I assume they do not spawn in Fire Red.)

Now, for the counter, what are Pokemon you would completely avoid based on their types?
