Smoking

1. Apparently it helps calm the nerves a little. While I don't know first hand how this works, I can't doubt it, either. If it helps, it helps. It comes at a price, but it helps, oh that's all we care about when we smoke cigs~

Utter trash. Why spend the day doing this act when it's slowly sapping your lifespan away from you? It's a permanent effect for a temporary issue. Not worth it, at least in my opinion. I don't like smelling of cigarettes, either, so I try to keep away from smokers. Enjoy losing your health and money, for it'll be hard to regain.

2. I've never smoked, I'm not smoking, and I never will smoke. I'd rather keep myself how I am, with a lack of various cancers, ty. On top of that, I'm asthmatic. Also a part of a family full of smokers, besides one family member, and they've been unable to due to disabilities. Thank god for her, she's not contributing to something I hate.

3. No. Try to offer me one, you'll lose that smoking hand.

What's your general opinion on smoking?
It depends on where the person is. I have no problem when it's on private, as long as the smoker is responsible enough to face the consequences of his actions. On public, though, it's an issue, because you're affecting people who didn't want to deal with the bad results of smoking in the first place.

Do you smoke? If yes then how often/how many cigarettes per day?
Nope.

Have you ever smoked?
Nope.

Will you ever smoke?
Nope.

What's your general opinion on smoking?

Have you ever smoked?
I did twice, actually. On both occasions due to curiosity because I just can't find anything pleasurable from it at all.

Will you ever smoke?
Most likely not but I think it's too early to tell. I'd rather be inebriated, though.

I've smoked once. Well technically it was a mix of tobacco and marijuana. I didn't really like the tobacco part though. I probably didn't do it properly because it felt like my lungs were burning up haha. So I don't intend on doing tobacco again but I'm really into weed so if that can just get legalized over here, that would be great.

As for other people smoking, I don't really like the smell of it or the damage that it can do to my already weak respiratory system, so kindly keep away

3. No. Try to offer me one, you'll lose that smoking hand.

I never offer people any, ever. And I hate sharing, but I wouldn't mind losing that hand. Its my left and I'm right handed anyway so its all good.

What's your general opinion on smoking?
I've always struggled to see how the "benefits" can counteract all the severe long term problems smoking can cause. You know it's bad when they put that it kills in big black letters on the box. But still I'd never judge or show prejudice towards anyone purely because they smoked. It's their life after all, they can do whatever they want.

Do you smoke?
Nope.

Have you ever smoked?
I'm quite proud to say no I haven't. Considering I get asked if I "want a ciggy" numerous times at every social gathering I go to.

Will you ever smoke?
I'd like to think not. I'm fairly keen on my sports and starting to smoke would only hinder that. Plus I just hate the smell of it. :(

insert standard response here that involves not smoking and being accepting towards life choices despite personal feelings.

okay now that boring part's out the way, HOW DO PEOPLE VIEW E-CIGARETTES THEN? Apparently much less harmful and all. Plus this way I get to see discussion that might border on potentially interesting rather than regurgitated words I've had to read far too many times. 8D QUOTE ME IF YOU SAY SOMETHING INTERESTING PLEASE. Ta.

I know absolutely nothing about e-cigarettes personally, how long have they been around? & do they smell anywhere near as bad as regular cigarettes? If not then that's a massive plus. Probably more cost efficient as well, I presume?

Althoughhh I did read somewhere the other day that even though they don't have any tobacco in them, they still do a fair amount of damage to your lungs. :(

The cost is roughly half? That varies a fair bit depending on brands etc though. I haven't really been around an e-cigarette smoker personally but apparently they have different "flavours"? Not sure if that means the smell is affected or not. Quite honestly interested to find out.

The odd thing is that the content of e-cigarettes isn't consistent either from what I've read. Some vapours have nicotine... others don't. It seems like a very interesting development and seems well on course to be the future of smoking.

They sell them at convenience stores here in Canada. Someone I worked with had vanilla-flavoured ones. Not sure if there was nicotine in 'em, but there are various types: chocolate, vanilla, grape, mint, etc.

honestly, i don't care if you smoke and why. you can do whatever you want; ive had a particular interest in smoking myself. however, people need to know where smoking is allowed. for places in public, i dont think smoking is a good idea simply because of people's tolerance with smoke (especially those individuals with asthma). i dont care about smoking as long as you're mindful about it.

My opinion on cigarettes is that they are terrible, nasty, and expensive. I hate that they are even legal, I'd rather marijuana be legal. They don't do anything good. I hate alchohol too, in general. I'll probably never get drunk. I don't understand why someone would even want to start smoking, it's not like it would be an accident. You have to smoke several to get addicted. I have tried them, and I didn't even want to finish ONE. There was no way in hell I was going to keep smoking until I got addicted, the first try was enough to turn me off of them forever.

My boyfriend sadly smokes and I nag at him constantly about them, tell him he's killing himself, he's going to get cancer, he's going to give me cancer, I'm giving him a hard time all of the time. I don't let him smoke in our apartment because if he wants to smoke, oh well I guess but I don't want to live in it and I don't want my kid to live in it. I also refuse to buy them for him, if I'm going to the gas station to get gas without him and he asks me if I can get him cigarettes when I'm there, my answer is always a flat out NO. I will not buy you your little evil cancer sticks.

Plus did I mention they were freaking expensive?? We aren't rich, we could save money if he didn't smoke. That could go towards other things instead of killing himself. I'm just glad he doesn't smoke as much as my mom/step dad. They spend 60 dollars a week, a WEEK. He at least only spends about ~45 a month but it's still wasted money.

As far as other people go, I don't like cigarettes and I don't want people smoking right up on me. It makes me really nauseous to have to smell it and gives me a terrible headache.

I just don't like them lol.

Some enlightenment for those of you who are saying that it's a waste of money and should be illegal:

Is going to the cinema a waste of money? Is buying sugary, unhealthy snacks a waste of money? What about going to McDonalds as a lunch option, is that a waste of money? Going out with your partner for an evening meal, that must also be a waste of money, right?

If you want smoking prohibited, that also means we'll have to prohibit every other consumable luxury. And I bet nearly everyone who uses Pokecommunity is guilty of the four examples above.

The fact is that those of us who do smoke do not necessarily consider it to be a waste of money. I sure don't.

Okay, so as an e-cig smoker I'm more than happy to answer any questions anyone has about it.

They smell incredibly GOOD. Like candy. Its gonna be a problem in its own in the future, when its more popular and more adults do it, since its not as popular as smoking because it isnt considered cool. It's the best way for people who have given up quitting smoking, or for people who don't want to quit but worry about their health. Its got no tar and no additives but it does still have every health risk associated with nicotine and some new health risks with the mixing liquids. The most concerning one for me is VG since it's had studies with rats and its caused problems in them. It's the thicker fluid. Also it's dangerous on the skin. I've gotten a rash before from the more PG heavy fluids.

There's three different fluid bases you can use for your flavors, propylene glycol (PG) vegetable glycerin (VG) and the illegal BHO which stands for butane hash oil. I only have used PG/VG in different ratios.

I highly recommend anyone wanting to start smoking e-cigs to start if they're smoking what my friends and I jokingly call analog, and to just stay away if they don't smoke at all. The long term effects are not fully understood we only know it's got less chemicals and short-term health risks than traditional cigs.

What actually are those health risks? I know cigarettes have health risks on their own (thanks to the enlightening masses who remind me of that every time I smoke...) but other than it being addictive, what are the health risks for nicotine? Since I actually quite enjoy its mood-altering effects haha - in fact, one of my main reservations towards switching to an e-cig is that I'd just get more addicted because you can smoke them inside in a lot of places (albeit getting some weird looks from people, haha) and there are less health risks associated currently, as well as it being cheaper and more convenient, and in general I just feel like I'd never put the thing down.

I really hate how some places over here have started banning e-cigs inside when they're pretty much harmless to those around you. It'll just have been a minority complaining about how they don't like the (perfectly fine) smell or something. It's gonna have a load of people thinking "well if I can't smoke inside then I may as well as not switch" and seems so unhelpful for people trying to quit. Even some pubs are doing it - and some people are still livid from when smoking was banned in pubs.

Some people are allergic to the VG and it causes rashes and lung irritation and scarring. Nicotine however has a few different dangerous side effects and often when you vape you get a lot more nicotine. There's been several poisonings from being less than careful refilling pens and I myself have gotten rashes from it.

Nicotine basically has this effect on the body: increased heart rate, constricted blood vessels, and it also thins the blood and reduces the bodies ability to clot.

I dunno if it does more than that, those are just the ones I can recall from memory.

Also I've been told you can test for a VG allergy by putting some on your hand and seeing if you get a rash however I highly recommend NOT doing that unless you have 100% VG (for mixing your own flavors) because nicotine is absorbed through the skin and you might end up with a very large amount in your body all at once and accidentally poison yourself. When you vape you use very small quantities and exhale some too.

I think everyone should research what they put into their bodies. Food, medicine (even doctor recommended) everything. Its important to know what you're doing to yourself, although I'm the kind of person who still drinks way too much, and vapes. I'm not very good to myself but at least I'm aware of it.

On the topic of e-cigs, one of my coworkers smokes one. There's so little smell to it that she can get away smoking it in a grocery store. :V No one notices because it's so inconspicuous.

I personally don't smoke, but a lot of my friends do. The second-hand smoke doesn't bother me, so I sit around with them while they smoke. (I'm a non-smoker who gets smoke breaks!)

Smoking isn't a habit that I'll pick up myself, but I don't look down on people who choose to do so. I'm not exactly the shining example of health with my own personal choices.

I've always felt disgusted by people who smoke, to be honest \: Especially knowing the consequences of doing so such as lung cancer, bad breath, yellow teeth, etc., but it's entirely their decision whether they smoke or not so I can't exactly do anything about it. Though for my personal benefit, I try to stay as far away as possible from individuals who do, or any kind of smoke in particular because I start choking, and the smoke makes it hard for me to breathe. With that being said, I've never smoked at all, though my ex-roommates were smoking outside once when I came back from school. It surprised me because one of them swore they would never smoke, and she looked scared when I found out; she tried hiding the cigarette behind her back, which obviously didn't work.

Yeah, e-cigs don't bother me at all, and I'm usually very sensitive to the smell of cigarettes, gives me a major headache. I don't think it "works" for everyone though, in terms of controlling nicotine addiction or whatever it is that makes people keep smoking; my brother's tried them before but still went back to regular cigarettes.

Anyway, my opinion on smoking has pretty much been covered in all the other anti-smoker's posts. It's kind of stupid. I don't doubt that it works for anxiety and all, I just think there are better ways to deal with stress. On top of that, it doesn't look "cool" - maybe once upon a time it was suave to smoke, but now, the general image of smokers I have is huddling up outside around a garbage can, and there's really nothing attractive about that.

Even if it doesn't lead to health problems, I still can't quite wrap my head around why people start smoking in the first place.
