    Hey there newbies!
If you've stumbled on this, then it's most likely that you want a couple of tips on how to begin your hacking career.
I'm going to break this down into separate categories, mapping, scripting and general.

    Mapping.

    • Look around the map rating thread to get some idea of what really good maps look like, because looking at them is a good way to get a feel for what you would like your mapping style to be.
    • Ask for tips from the better mappers, but don't consistently bug them, saying "Can you map for me?", because chances are, you'll just annoy them, and they won't want to help you.
    • Play around with Advance Map, or Elite Map, to get a feel for mapping, because, practice makes perfect.
    • Doodle on a piece of paper, to get the shape that you want for the map.

    Scripting.
Now, I know that this is the big daunting one in the hacking world, the "hardest" subject in Vrai's coined phrase, Emula Town. But scripting doesn't have to be the big, scary, six foot nine bouncer that it look like, just follow these tips.

    • Check out the scripting tutorials for a general idea on how to do it. If you're having trouble, then ask people about it. I am certainly open for help of you need it.
    • If you want people to help you, then, like mapping, don't annoy them asking if they can script for you. It just decreses the chance of them helping you.
    • Break it down. Put the commands into a song or recite them in you head to a beat.
    • Keep a tutorial by your side to reference back to if you need it, or to check the movement commands.
    • Post in the script help thread if something isn't working properly. There are a lot of helpful people there to help fix your scripts.

    General

    • Hack for fun, not to become popular. YOU should enjoy doing it. If you're not enjoying it, then stop.
    • Don't post everything in CAPS. Because it really, really annoys people.
    • Try to use proper grammar, mainly if English is your main language.
    • Respect the fact that everyone is hacking here to get a sense of enjoyment, not just for you. I'm talking to you, Light Platinum fans.

    And, end.

    1. You spelled 'Grammar' wrong.
    2. For mapping, playing around with Advance Map is the reason that there are so many hacks in the Scrapbox. Because someone thinks that they can put pretty looking tiles on a map, they think they can do everything, and go WAY over their heads with starting the hack.
    3. People really won't listen to this, as they are too blinded by pride to accept that these are their major problems. They think that they're perfect in every way, and will most likely continue what they are doing for a long time.
    4. I'm kinda sick of seeing so many of these threads, especially from hackers of early '08. We aren't that spectacular... atleast not enough to make these threads. Everyone is new at some point, even us. Look past their stature, and just expect more from them later, instead of their current projects.

    1. Noted and fixed, thank you.
    2. I was going to add something like that to the list, thanks for jogging my memory.
    3. I'm trying to present it in a friendly way, not trying to hammer it onto other people.
    4. The point of the thread was to give some of the newbies a perspective on how to become better, so I hope that it helps them excel faster.

    I thought 08 was a pretty good year. ;__;

All I'm going to say is that in an ideal world this thread would make a difference.

    I thought 08 was a pretty good year. ;__;

It was the year I got into ROM Hacking and Pokecommunity making it instantly the best year in existance, apart from my birth year, so it was pretty awesome for me.

I agree with every point except 2. Usually, it will lead to bad results, but for anyone who isn't always impressed with him/herself, they will know when they aren't as skilled as they think, and will constantly try to improve.

Have you seen most people? They're quite impressed with their maps, no matter how horrible they are.

I think this will be pretty useful to the new hackers.
I hope they appreciate this, for making them better hackers.
    Good idea!:)

I think this is a good tutorial.
I strted hacking last year, but never found this
    website until this year.

After I found this website, I became better.
    Especally after I read this.
