Sonic Boom

?

The main reason why LW was panned was due mostly to who poor the controls were and how poorly designed the game was. I've only seen a few reviews commenting on how it's too different from the classic formula. (Which should be a positive, but critics nowadays expect the same old **** handed to them on a silver platter)
From what I've heard from the rest of the Sonic fanbase, Lost Worlds is actually really good, and the negative reviews were due to critics either not reading the instructions on the controls or had too much expectations for the game being like Super Mario Galaxy.

I didn't even notice Sonic's blue arms at first, and Tails looks no different to me.

To be honest, I think I prefer the more dramatic, serious style of Sonic, like the Sonic X/sixth-gen console era. I don't think there's any inherent merit in a work not taking itself seriously.

That's false. Nearly every complaint about the game I saw (and share) have nothing to do whether or not it's anything like classic Sonic or Mario Galaxy.

That said, I'm sure everyone actually likes the base idea of Lost World. The execution, however, was absolutely terrible, and that's where all the criticism comes from. (Level design, difficulty curve, gimmicks, controls, etc.) If the formula had another game that was much better executed we could have ourselves a really great Sonic game.

Yeah, I don't get the outrage over the character design changes. Knuckles being bulky to denote his role as the muscle makes sense, as everything else about him is still the same. Sonic's arms being blue is a lot better imo, never understood them being just skin. Amy is weird though I'll give you that. Overall in the end however, the designs look genuine and thought out, nothing too obviously "focus group" like the Pac Man fiasco.
Otherwise, the game looks amazing. I always wondered how open world(well in this case semi-open) Sonic would be, and we're getting an answer to it. Nothing bad could really come out of this experiment to be quite honest, as its not replacing the other sonic. Hell, if it turns out great or near perfect, maybe the other sonic could leave, and I'll still be happy.

There's also these reviews that gave Lost Worlds decent scores while acknowledging the flaws on some of the level designs and difficulty curves. It's basically a case of critics having a habit of comparing modern Sonic games to their the old Genesis titles. If Lost Worlds was that bad, then it wouldn't be getting the upcoming Yoshi and Zelda DLC levels.

I'm honestly not sure what you're trying to prove here. Mentioning the genesis Sonic game or Mario Galaxy was bound to happen since it's Sonic with a Galaxy vibe, but what you're not taking into account here is that they're not criticizing it for not being like those games, but merely saying those games just do what Lost World do better because they actually have a tight design and focus. Also I'm not sure why you're even linking to comments when it's full of "real gamers don't listen to reviewers! Experience is everything!" ****. I've noticed you keep linking to random arguments and citing user comments to back up points. Stop doing that.

There's many, many good arguments on why Lost World is heavily flawed and it IS the general consensus. If you want to play reviews, a 60% metacritic is baaad for a series in the quality of Sonic. (lol)

And getting Yoshi and Zelda DLC...doesn't mean anything, especially when the DLC was planned before the release. Not to mention that the game was a collab with Nintendo, why wouldn't they support it? Having Nintendo on it doesn't keep it from being bad.

Knuckles what did they do to you
Steroids the Echidna
Why are Sonic's arms blue
What are this
such design, very new, so change

My first impressions were pretty much those. Overtime, the new designs (which are just for this game, guys) have started to grow on me. So far, it looks like a mix of Adventure 1 and Heroes, both of which I enjoyed. I also like that Sonic's coming back to TV with the TV adaptation. The trailer for the series was pretty hilarious (to me, at least).
I'm still going to hold off on buying it until reviews come in, but I have a feeling this game's going to be pretty awesome (don't hold me to that :P ). Wonder what the giant worm-thing at the end of the trailer was? First boss?

I like the new designs, I think they are really refreshing, and the characters look like they have more personnality to them. As for buff Knuckles, he's been the muscle in Sonic's crew ever since he joined Sonic & Tails in Sonic 3K, and I'm happy to see he finally looks like it. I'd rather prefer him to be a little smaller though, but that's just a minor nitpick.

The game gave me some serious Adventure/Heroes vibe which is good in my book, and after seeing the trailer for the game and learning who's developping both versions, I'm positive I'm buying both on release date. I'm not sure I'll watch the show though.

It kinda reminds me of that one boss from, ah, what was it? Sonic the Hedgehog, I think, that you fight in that green circular arena with Silver. I might be remembering wrong since I'm not a huge Sonic buff and haven't even played the game I mentioned, just a random memory.

This is true, though expanding his chest seems like something that should've been done ages ago if it was going to be done and it's just random to do it now. Then again, this seems to be a sort of experimental period for the characters (in-game wise, not from a developer's point of view) so maybe the bandages and Amy's outfit choice and Sonic... growing hair on his arms is a part of transition/experimenting with themselves. And Knuckles is keen on getting a girlfriend so he's been pumping a little extra iron, ya feel?

mmm...

I thiiink the Knuckles art might of gone a bit too far. XD Nontheless, I do like this approach - keeps this more modern, I suppose, but I'm hoping to see more gameplay of the game before making any judgements. But who knows, maybe this is the Sonic game that is set to be more promising! Anyone checked out a sneak peak of the new TV series? Crazy. @_@

Altough being a spin-off title, the Sonic Boom game looks damn appealing to me.
The character's designs look overall good, altough a steroid-filled knuckles doesn't get on my taste. One of the things I'm liking more about this is being able to use a different character than Sonic (finally , I'd say, since last time belonged to Sonic '06) and the cooperative online play. I'm sorry about the fact the game is not speed-based, but since speed still has a place there, I'm curious to see how good will it fit. Who knows, maybe Sonic Team will implement some of those in its next Sonic game! About the characters, I'm happy that Amy finally got to show up her abilities, looking pretty badass as well. On the other face of the coin, though, I hope this Amy isn't portraied as a mono-dimensional character, that'll just ruin her. Generally, this game has many inspiring features that I believe could fit into Sonic Team's Sonic games as well, yet it's too soon to see if this spin-off will actually be good stuff or garbage

I've given it a few days just to not let shock do the talking. I really enjoy the new designs, and while Knuckles is pretty different, Seeing him in action in the trailer, and looking at the overall art style of all the redesigns, I can appreciate what they did with him.

I'm really looking forward to the game. They have some very qualified talent making this game.

One of them being Bob Refei, who formerly worked with Naughty Dog as an art director on games such as Crash Bandicoot, Jack and Dexter, and even the First Uncharted game. (which might explain while Sonic is getting an almost Nathan Drake vibe to his look perhaps?)

Also hearing that Chris Senn is working on this game brings me great joy. After seeing what he could have brought to Sonic, seeing him get another chance is pretty cool, and any project he's attached to I'll be looking onto with great interest.

I don't think the new Knuckles looks weird. It looks out of character and not faithful to the original design, but not weird. But damn, why does Sega need to redesign their characters on a timely basis? Sonic doesn't need any redesign.

Ahh I didn't notice this thread before and accidentally started another one. Being a Sonic fan all of life, I kinda like the change. Sure Knuckles design looks a little weird to me, but I'm sure I can get used to it.

It makes me wonder if actual co-op would be possible in this. Yes I know some of the other Sonic games had Co-op, but I always felt (at least to me) like it was a power struggle to see who could stay ahead of the other the entire time. So I am very curious to see what this series will have to offer. It is also nice to see other characters finally getting some more spotlight. I don't think I remember the last time tails, knuckles, and amy were actually playable in more than just like a part of a level. Almost reminds me of the old Sonic Adventure days.

Apparently there's multiplayer but no (online) co-op... but early days anyway for the game so we'll probably have to wait and see on more details.

Other than the straps, the redesigns look pretty cool (even knuckles :p)
