Here is my first ever fakemon attempt! It's supposed to be a pokemon that is kinda based on the little helicopter seeds that fall from maple trees. So basically, it's a grass pokemon that spins really fast to hover and fly. I don't have a name for it yet. What do you guys think of it?

I have to say that i kinda like it.

The Design is kinda weird but you did draw it really nicelly

Grass/Dragon fakemon. Give me your harshest critique for this, I mean it.
EDIT: Outline isn't shaded. Need to selout then animate.
I love a pixel artist asking for harsh critique <3
I hope you dont mean by insulting critique though, because that wouldn't be constructive critism, now would it.

Anyways I adore most of the design and anatomy, but the outline is so sloppy. You need to smooth it out, you can look up a couple tutorials that should explain it well. You already noticed it seems about the shaded outline, if your going to do pokemon style, shaded outline is a must. Im not sure what the b/w dimensions are but that seems just too big. The eye also looks funny, I recommend you make it smaller to match the huge anatomy and show the size of it. Unfortunately I wish I could wright more but you have everything else down. Again I appreciate it that you want "harsh" cc, not many pixel artists will be that confident in they're skills and want to fix some things suggested. Hope this helps~

you didnt tell me :(.
oh well. I love the concept. weee~

The head is a little out of place to me, it dosent feel right. (ok im only good with maps not pixel art.)
Maybe if you make the head a closer pallete to the yellow/oarnge on the leaves/ but you say this is your first? you have a TRUE talent for pixels then.

I'm sorry for not telling you... haha I just quick uploaded it and had other stuff to do! I was thinking about making the head yellowish greenish, but I was using Sceptile's pallet, and I wanted to use all the colors. I want to get some real advice from people, too, on what's bad about it besides the head's color.

Here's a new fakemon sprite I made over the last 2 days. It's a seaturtle pokemon...with a horn! I haven't come up with a name for it either, but I think it could make a good water starter. Actually, it would probably be the evolution of the water starter. Maybe I'll make the first stage of the evolution next. Anyway, here you go:

Oh, and I used Omastar's pallet.

Was it your intention to make it a cyclops? I only see one eye in the center of the head. Also, some rear flippers or at least a tail would make the sprite more appealing.

It is a bit cyclopean. The colors are very pleasing, but some of the horns look a little low. That is, the bases of them, such as the lower one on the sheel, seem too close to the edges for how verticle they are.

The head also reminds me of a triceratop's frill (that fan-like area behind its head) since the lighting on this sprite's head makes it look like the head is turned slightly toward us and the top part of the head thin.

I usually just stick to Pokemon sprites, but I decided to try spriting a human character for a change of pace:

Ichigo Kurosaki, from Bleach.
Not a pixel-over, but I did use a reference picture for the shading and pose.

Here's another one I made today! It uses Kingler's pallet. I think it could be an alternate evolution for Krabby. So, with a King's Rock or something?

Any suggestions as to how I can improve these? My first few scratches, thanks to a tutorial on here.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

The Tazmanian Devil pokemon:-

They're good first sprites, but theres still room for improvement

In the basic stage, the back seems off a bit, it looks kinda like its broken and healed at an odd angle, try looking at real pics of how they keep their back legs as a reference.

The final stage also seems weird. mostly because of the face....it looks oddly squashed, you should change the way u shaded the face to make it look like a snout and change the eyes as well. they should slant backwards, along with the angle of the face cuz they're on the sides of the head, not in front like a person's.

overall though you're shading seems all over the place. The lighting for pokemon sprites usually come from the upper left hand corner, and the areas that light touch should be lighter, in all these sprites light and dark areas seem randomly placed. Also you're line shading also seems random, the black should only go in shadowy areas and the lighter outline colors where the light hits.

The Squid:-

I like how its done, except the lighting seems to be from the wrong side...but apart from that, i like the shading, it makes it seem more smooth and cylindrical.

But ur final stage well...seems incomplete....there's a complete lack of outline shading on the tentacles.

@icychill66: you're sprites are really good....love the shading and concepts, but the seaturtle thing could use a back flipper imho...it would be pretty hard to drag the shell through water without some thrust from the back (kinda like swimming with just ur hands...doable but more work :P)

@Cyberglass:- o.O it looks amazing....i love the shading on the lower part of the shinigami uniform. gives it a very cool pixel-manga look.

I've never been a big fan of dithering in the first place, but those sprites use it far too much, espenn, resulting in the trademark grainy look that comes with an over-abundance of dithering.

Take a look at the official sprites. Even the sprites in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, arguably the point where the modern style leaned most towards dithering, still use it sparingly in order to avoid problems. the FRLG and 4th Gen styles further reduce the amount of dithering used in sprites, especially front ones.

This isn't finished, and I've already pointed out a couple flaws, but I've got a gigantic headache so I wanted people's opinions on it currently while I go do something to stop being in agonising pain. ;;

The Flaws already;
Choppy tail.
Right eye too low.
Claws everywhere.

Edited: Also that's not its final colour(s). I just wanted it coloured in quickly to make it presentable.

I'm not sure what style you're going for, but if you wanted this to be more pokemon-like you might try enlarging the head a little to give it that big-head-small-body cuteness thing. It would also give you more space to work with the eyes and other features on the head. It's obviously a bird you're making, but you'll want some kind of texture or detail to make it look like there are feathers on it. The wing and tail also seem to share part of the same outline. I don't know if that looks as good as it would if they were a little more distinct. The way the outline on the body curves as it moves under the wing you would expect it to continue several pixels to the left of where it emerges right now.

The white chevron design should probably move to the left a little, too, similar to how it's placed in this sprite:

That would put it move in line with the 'center' of the sprite. You might also take another idea from this sprite and remove that one eye altogether.

I'm not sure what possessed me to want to pixel a locker, but here it is. I tried to limit my colours as much as possible, ending with a grand total of 5 colours (according to my count). Opinions?

I like it, I know you only used 5 colors but the look looks a bit odd to me.

It's sprited in a non pokemon style. It's more than likey you've never seen any on this site. That'll be why it looks strange. Probably...

Anywho, I think there's nothing really wrong with the sprite.
You've put the colours to good work. (b")b
