"Star Wars Battlefront is a Star Wars multiplayer combat game. It is a reboot of the Star Wars Battlefront series, originally created by Pandemic Studios. Battlefront depicts massive multiplayer battles between online opponents and also supports some cooperative split-screen modes."
When it was announced at E3, Star Wars Battlefront has a lot of hype surrounding it considering DICE, the company behind the Battlefield series, was taking control. However, when details started to leak out around the time about the minimum map pool and lack of single player, some of the hype started to go south. Since the game has been out for a few months now, what do you guys think? Do you think Star Wars Battlefront lived up to the hype or no? How do you think the Outer Rim DLC recently released affects the game? Feel free to talk all things Star Wars Battlefront related here!

I never really jumped on the hype train to begin with when Battlefront was first announced. The inner child in me was pretty excited, but I was seeing Battlefield getting progressively repetitive, and my logical side basically assumed that this would just be a reskin of Battlefield. Now that the game is actually out, I wish I could say that is true, but it isnt.

When you look at Battlefield, vehicles play a major part. Yet in Battlefront, they are pretty much useless in most parts. Only one team gets ground vehicles on the Hoth walker assault, and the air combat is pretty poor. On Endor, you have speeder bikes, but the things are practically useless with how many trees there are. I honestly wish that they had been willing to put more effort into vehicles in the game.

Other than that, its a fairly typical DICE game. You shoot people, they shoot back. The guns feel fairly lack luster and as a jedi you feel like you are just swinging around a wet noodle. I think the game is solidly okay. It didn't live up to the hype, and I'm perfectly happy to mod the hell out of Battlefront 2 on my computer and have a much more fun experience. I had my fun with Dice's attempt to revive it, but I think I'm done with it, regardless of DLC.

I don't know if you played any of the beta for Star Wars Battlefront, but I remember how Walker Assault was absurdly made to favor the Imperial side. That game mode is really one sided unfortunatley. Even though the game is pretty repetitive, I think it's safe to say that any multiplayer game can be considered pretty repetitive right?

Best game mode of the game though is hands down Heroe's vs Villains. While I'm not...happy about the new "heroes" with this DLC, that game mode is very intense and is a ton of fun. Games are short and quick, but is jam packed with some intense action imo.

Really? I found the walker assault mode to be the only interesting mode. Yeah, it was pretty favored in terms of the Imperials, but its really the only mode with an interesting objective to do. Most of the other maps just seem small or plain. A few are more interesting, like the ones where every time the attackers capture a control point, the whole map and spawn points move forward. But in general the game is just repetitive, has boring gunplay, and isn't all that fun after you play ten or so hours.

I think the way this game is supposed to be played though is in short bursts. That's at least how I find the game. Sure I can't play it for multiple hourse on a time, but I still think that the game is pretty good. I'm just not a fan of the season pass, which you can't buy DLC-to-DLC. Instead you have to buy the entire $50 pass if you want to play any of the expansions.

I've been playing this game a lot over the past few days. It's a great Star Wars game and DICE did a really good job making the player feel like they are actually in a Star Wars battle. I've mostly been playing Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Heroes vs Villains, and occasionally Fighter Squadron.

Actually, season pass owners just get early access to the DLC. Outer Rim will be available for individual purchase April 5.

    ....ohhhhhhhhhh

That makes a hell of a lot more sense lol. I was searching the Xbox One store the other night and I couldn't find a purchase option for just Outer Rim. Gonna have to mark my calendar then (:

Do you have a favorite Hero/Villain to play as?

I never really jumped on the hype train and I mostly only played this game because my friends were into it..though I have to admit it can be really fun and addicting sometimes lol.

I love playing Walker Assault, and my fav hero/villian to play as is Boba Fett.

I tend to like the heroes with blasters more than the lightsaber heroes, simply because I stay alive longer. I like Luke because he's fun to play as, but I usually pick Leia because she survives the longest for me.
The Emperor is fun, but he's totally useless at a distance, so I generally pick Boba Fett as a Villain. His jet pack is amazing :P

Also I just want to say that I think Nien Nunb and Greedo were very odd choices for Heroes this DLC.

Emperor Palpatine is actually my favorite villain to play as lol. I like being able to play as a "support" player, so the same goes for Leia on the other side of the coin. Although granted, Leia is pretty OP in terms of damage vs defense when it comes to escaping situations unlike Emperor Palpatine. The ability to heal with him is good, but I think his damage range offsett and balances the character as a whole unlike Leia.

Definitely Nien Numb and Greedo are odd choices. You'd think that with so many characters to add like Chewbacca, Darth Maul, Obi Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, Qui Gon, Count Dooku, General Grievous, and so on and so forth, they'd choose someone more prominent than those guys. Honestly? I think it was because of laziness, or short period of time to work on the DLC. The face skins were already in the game with Greedo and Nien Numb, so all they needed to do was create the rest of the bodies.

I really hope they don't stick with episodes IV-VI in terms of Heroes and Villains. That's a waste of potential /:

I'm pretty sure they said they're not adding anything from the prequels or TFA (other than Jakku) to this particular game, so anything new is going to be drawn from the original trilogy.

Anyway, I have very conflicting feelings about Battlefront. When it works, it's a ton of fun, but it has so many balance issues that it's infuriating more often than not. Plus the fact that I was an idiot and got the PC version, which was practically dead about a month after release and was nearly impossible to get matched up with other players last time I tried it. When everything comes together though, there's really no other game that's made you feel like you're actually in a Star Wars movie.

I haven't played it in a month or two, so I might jump back in soon and see if they've fixed any of the issues I had with it.

The thing is though that there are so many FPS games out there that are so much fun. Sure, I can hop on Star Wars and play for an hour, and after an hour I'm bored. I did that for pretty much all of January, and I have touched the game since early February. And I get it, a lot of FPS games are meant to be played that way. You jump on, have some fun with your friends, and then leave. But why do that when there are games out there that you can just have fun with all the time?

I managed to get into the Overwatch beta, and I've been having a blast. I honestly can't see myself going back to Battlefront when there are much more fun games out there to play that I am consistently having fun with, playing both with and without friends. I think that Battlefront was a shiny game with a lack of content and depth, which makes me sad. I really wanted the game to actually be fun, but its just so repetitive.

I can get on board with that. As an avid Destiny fanatic, that game ultimately ran it's course with me as well. It's inevitably going to happen with all video games. With so many new ones always coming out, you're eventually going to want to move on from certain games.

    Unless it's the Binding of Isaac, that game is my rock lol (;

What kind of balancing issues are you finding in the game?

I haven't played too much since they apparently nerfed it, but the DL-44 was absolutely broken in the time I played it. It was a one-shot kill even from a fairly decent range, and most of the times I noticed myself getting killed were to that weapon.

Plus there are some modes/maps that are just lopsided. I think the Empire has one maybe once or twice in all the matches I've played on Endor. Not only does the fact there's only one walker mean the Empire has an uphill battle, but they also get to trek through the jungle in their nice shiny white armor while the rebels get camouflage. Plus, the Empire has quite literally an uphill fight in the second wave of uplinks since they're all up in the freaking treetops.

The matchmaking is also pretty questionable...I've noticed it just seems to randomly assign teams regardless of level, etc. So many times I've been matched on a team with a bunch of low-level players against a team of high level opponents with weaponry and power-ups that we can't hope to compete against. Part of that might just be because of the low player count on PC and it might be different on consoles...but it's still infuriating when it happens.
