220449. Every dog I've had goes outside. Though it's not fun cleaning up after them, either. It's worse if you can't figure out what's stressing a cat out, though, since cats have a tendency to pee on things when stressed, while dogs tend to just not eat or whimper excessively (things that they also do when not hungry and extremely bored).
And cats may "clean" themselves, but dogs do a similar "cleaning". Self-bathing is less effective at removing their smell than just bathing them yourself, though bathing either too much removes protective oils from their skin. Grew up with both in the house for over a decade. I think I know how much both smell. I also know that a dog is far more willing to forgive you after a bath than a cat is.
