Do you even hang out there? Often, or just sporadically?

Personally, I only drop in when someone wants to randbat or when someone on skype mentions that there's fun talk going on or when I'm really bored and get reminded of that the server exists in one way or another. I don't really think about it often and don't quite count myself as a regular.

I keep telling myself to get back into Pokémon battling, but I never do and as such I never go to the Battle Server. I think my time is too fleeting to really invest much time in it at the moment, with all the other things I want to do that also don't get done.

As I haven't been there I can't say much about the quality, but I've heard nothing but praise for the mods and admins at the battle server, so presumably it's very good.

I've been staff there for about 2 and a half years now! I love the place haha. It's a great place to chat, battle, make new friends, and just enjoy yourself! Everyone should check it out at some point. I know a lot of people are intimidated by the words "battle server" but you shouldn't be. Everyone can have fun here n_n

I... sometimes feel like there are so many people there who chat like great friends and I'm just butting in and being boring 8)

I've been going back there for the past few days and I definitely have intentions on hopefully upkeeping my appearances there. c: Though I'll only be joining randbat tour because lol team making is a hassle and I suck at it but randbats are really fun and I was happy to win my first tour yesterday.

Though then I changed my server name to Satochu. so i lost my points. Oh well. ♥

I mean, what one has to realize is that there are such things as Random Battles that exist, which means that there are Pokemon that are provided to you, and given the nature of how the battle server's chat is, it's just generally very, very lenient and such a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. I encourage anyone who's shy about joining to go ahead and do so, hang around, maybe lurk for a bit if that makes you comfortable. Honestly just about every person there is a cool to talk to, and joining the Battle Server personally has been one of the best decisions I've made on PC, because I've made friends I've otherwise wouldn't have made like Chase, and even gotten closer to wolf, or even met some great people like Sector, or Sophie, and the list goes on.

Eh, it doesn't feel right to me to use something like that, where pokemons are just given to you like that, y'know? It just feels wierd, and restrictive, despite the apparent lack of such restrictions. It just makes me feel...off. And I don't want to join a battle server, and then not participate in battles.

I log in there every day! Definitely glad PC has a Showdown server, as it makes things slightly more easy when it comes to getting to know others around here. Though, nowadays, I don't get to chat as much as I'd like, unfortunately, as I'm usually busy with other things when I'm online. Hopefully, I'll be getting this changed soon.

    I go through phases.

Like, I'll visit randomly and be a regular for a month or so and then once I've finally gotten some degree of skill level back and have started chatting to everyone more I'll promptly vanish again for another several months.

I've heard the battle server + chat is fun, but I'm no battler myself so I've never really touched tht area. Last time I ever did any battling of any sort was me trying out the Mysidian Smogen server that was used here a while back, but after one tournament that was it for me.

Showdown uses tiers. So I try to stay away from it.

So, listen. Pokemon Showdown is site mostly ran by the Smogon server. Smogon created tiers when competitive battling truly became a thing not to tell people what they can or can't do, but to help create a balance within the metagame. Things were being overran by Sand-Attack + Double Team users with Substitute and Baton Pass, and while that is a legitimate strategy, it's also one that kind of lead the brigade of game breaking combos and moves.

Tiers were the answer for balance. They didn't just pick and choose which Pokemon, moves, items and attacks could or couldn't be used. They spend months analyzing and testing each little thing. They don't even JUST use the main users of an overpowered move, they take any and just about everything that can and try it out. See how it works on each Pokemon that could be hit with it, those that couldn't, other Pokemon that could learn it, or basically carbon copies of the Pokemon using it going against each other. They don't do it to be mean to the Pokemon. Hell, some Pokemon that many people hate are way up in the higher tiers.

Not only that but there are tiers you can play in where there really aren't that many restrictions. Ubers (the tier with Pokemon like Mega Gengar, Mewtwo, Lugia, and so on) really only has the Sleep Clause and Evasion Clause. Even then, if you don't want any restrictions, there's also an "Anything Goes" tier.

All I'm saying is don't curse an entire community of people because of one little thing. That's the same as saying "I don't go to Pokecommunity because they have profiles." Many, MANY people don't battle in our server. I choose random every time because it gives me something I'd have never used before. If you're so worried about having a mixed tier team, play in Ubers clarifying to your challengee why you're doing it. Most people understand and actually get excited with such teams! They're really fun!

The Battle Server would love to have you there. There are a ton of friendly people who have a massive variety of interests, not just Pokemon battling. Many I'm sure share your RvB love. I love Rooster Teeth! I talk about it all the time!

So give it a shot. It isn't an evil place where we yell at people for having a Delcatty side-by-side with a Garchomp. We welcome any kind of team you'd love to make, and we'll show you the Pokemon we love to battle with. Tiers aren't a separation of rank, they're a balance of power that take months and sometimes even years for those people to complete.

tl;dr: I love the battle server, and though I may not know or like or even get along with some people there, that doesn't mean it's a bad place. I'm sure everyone here has the same issue, and we do a TON of awesome tournaments where you get little cute, small rewards, games here on the main forum site, and we just have a ton of awesome people who share love in just about any type of battling format. Give it a try!

I used to be a server regular on the Pokecommunity battle server up until I had college, and of course life. I used to go on everyday like it was Facebook, but even more better and friendly. When I first went on, I felt like I wasn't going to fit in or I would be too awkward /weird, which I still am tbh. But, I suppose that in the end, I did in some way or another fit in. I have met a lot of people worth mentioning such as Chase, Sophie Golurk (Tom) , Ozzy, Dustin, Derk/Ange, Mid, Wolf, Nica, Jakee, Shawn, Nicole, Sheep, (although the latter 2 I met here), Zeffy, battlebro(littlebro), Gunner, Dipu, Slate, Kaori (Shinell), Vrai, Lala the Man, Renèe, Hayley, Sonic, Gavin, Harry, Blade, Luke, Aero, Sector, Megan, Ashley, Amanda, James, Lucas, Sri, Ryder (Kimi), oddísh, Yoshikko, Christοs, Chris, Tara, Rabi, Syn, Anti, Archer, Naka, Yankee, Jess, Audy, Jake(Hiroshi), Alex, TheFattestSnorlax, Red, Mudkipguy, and ShinySquirtleSquad.

I know that alot of people say that they avoid the server because they just suck at competitive battling, but, so do I, and I have been there for 3 years! It doesn't mean that going there you'll be an expert overnight, it will take time and effort to be good at battling, as does with everything in life, I know that I want to be better at battling, even though I am not doing much of competitive battling, I still want to learn regardless. So when there is a discussion on CB, I can contribute to the conversation, without ruining the chat by not knowing what I am talking about.

All in all, if you don't want to battle or just are clueless in making a team, then just sit back and enjoy the chat because you are not going to regret it. Don't worry about team building, because that is something everyone who first joined the server were initially scared of. Nonetheless we really do have quite some regulars who are experts themselves to help you out and teach you the basics and the past and current meta of today. So don't be hesitant to ask.

The battle server will always have a special place in my heart and I encourage those who have not yet been on there to just come and have fun, I can guarantee that you all will, even Christοs will guarantee it~

i was trying to get into it but apparently my brother hangs around there, no thanks.

its a great place cause it has me :D
    must visit imo

I have been a regular there since December 2012, and while I do occasionally battle it's usually only randoms. Most of my time spent there is for chatting, since I'm not a very good battler myself. But I am good friends with a huge chunk of the server community and that's why they're special to me.

I've been on the Battle Server since around February 2013, and I think it's a pretty good place to hang out with great friends. I also battle on occasion, usually on randoms. I like battling even though I'm leaning towards casualities instead of competitiveness. Plus, Battle Server is one of the reason I cancelled my decision to leave PC as a whole when I was not in good mood back then, so it holds a special place for me too.

I come there often, its p. good :)
But I rarely use the chat because I'm too shy
Now im a member of the Majestic Milotics, I think I'll be on it more often.
