I just want to say that while Nidoking was the clear MVP on my team, the other three main members (Kadabra, Hypno, and Muk) all contributed significantly (and Vileplume was okay for a while too). Hypno in particular was invaluable against Psychics, and Muk was necessary in taking down Lance's Gyarados in particular. Kadabra beat Bruno by himself, but he really wasn't able to do much else in the E4, although he was very useful during the game especially since he had Dig.

Here are my final movesets:
Nidoking: Earthquake, Horn Drill, Strength, Rock Slide
Hypno: Confusion, Hypnosis, Body Slam, Psychic
Kadabra: Psybeam, Recover, Dig, Psychic
Muk: Disable, Thunderbolt, Minimize, Sludge
Vileplume: Mega Drain, PoisonPowder, Stun Spore, Sleep Powder

Well I'm writing rules and instructions down now and something is bugging me.

Jes said I shouldn't make points have to do with winning the game (my idea of 3 people finish but the one with the most points is the winner) because the purpose should be to buy items, but all the items anyone cares about (wrist watch, black out, etc we decided should be lottery items so many people wouldn't be spending their points. Idk.

Also I want this to be a lot like an rpg within an rpg so I thought about quests. For example what if it was something like "Catch all Pokemon and obtain items in this cave" if you completed that you'd get a special treasure chest that contains all sorts of goodies.

Also what will the challenge itself be? Aren't you all sick of monotypes?
Well, one idea that has merit is to reduce the amount of points or actions that gain points.

Also, I was thinking that you should have to have every team member within 5 levels of each other at the end of the game or something, so that what I did wouldn't be possible, soloing at the end with Nidoking (although I actually didn't solo as much as I thought I needed to, and I used most of my Rare Candies on him at the end too), and the game would also go slower since you have to put time into training your team, especially if you have to change types or someone gets boxed or something.

As far as the ending for Ruby/Sapphire, maybe it could be capturing Rayquayza, although a capture at the end seems lame because all you need is the Master Ball. Lati@s does have merit though, since you have to look for it and could potentially get shut down or overtaken.

I think something we could do if Lati@s is the ending moment is that a Sudden Change used on someone looking for Lati@s would have to beat the E4 again with the new types or something, so they aren't immune to that particular item. That would give others time to catch up and extend the game.

I also think there should be a Lottery item that takes away points on its own (not the Friend Ether).

And there should be more than one item given away each day, but not to the same person, and the second roll shouldn't include the Black Out.

As far as the actual challenge, I'm fine with the dual monotype. Not sick of them yet! I'm not real sure what other challenge we could try. The Sudden Change item would need to be changed however.

Here's an idea relating to the rankings, for the future though.

If we are able to find a way to do different challenges, we can keep track of how players finish and give them ranking points. Every time we finish a game/challenge, we add it to our score. That would also allow us to replay games (with different challenges) as well.

anyway, there's some random thoughts. anybody else?

For Gen 3 it should be you have to catch both Rayquaza and Lati@s. That way someone cant just masterball both for the win, making it slightly more difficult.

I dont think the pocket watch should be lottery only, i think it should just cost more.. maybe 50 - 60. I think thatd be more reasonable. I think there should be a lottery item that lets you cut a players time by half.
75 points- Half life - cuts a chosen players playing time by half for 3 days or something like that

maybe an item that forces the trainer to level their pokemon say like 15 levels before continuing from a place they are at. Kinda like a double edge sword cause itll slow them. but also give them an advantage for later stages.

And and and each competitor must take a screen of there game time and team after every play, (Perhaps emulating would be easier for this)

Team members must all be within 5 levels of each other before important parts in the game?

So many ideas so little time!
And i also think that everyone should have a chance to finish the challenge on the day the first person does, cause thats fair, then maybe remaining points or something could be the decider of the winner?

Crap.

Good Game.

Well, i actually purposly didn't use my black out, only cuz i wanted the game to end..

(surrrrrrrre)

:3 i'll post ideas later, but uh gg

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, so for the challenge itself, i am sick of monotype.

Lets do some sort of username challenge, like the letters of your name (say if i name my char bowser) have to be the leters of the first letter of the pkmn you catch

Well, uh Items are getting some good ideas, i like a lot of jespokes, but uh

I luv the quest idea, its epic :3 and we need to see more of the friend ether that item is freaking win :P

All right, so here are some grabbag item ideas.

Well, actually, what if say you catch a pokemon, and its ability is stench, than you can bad smell 20 points from someone of your choice or something :3

Ok well that would be confusing, but it could work....

Hmmmm yes Jespoke I'll just copy and paste all those bombs when it is time to set up the forum lol

I agree all Pokemon should be five levels either higher or lower than each other (maybe that's why I'm so far behind because that's actually how I level up my team lolz)

As for proof for 3rd gen I'll be playing a hard copy again, everyone with an emulator should post their pics, but as you seen in my post we live in an age where we have a camera in everything so it isn't too hard to take a pic of your gba.

Okay as for challenges I was either thinking:

1. probably no one remembers but I had a season challenge, it'd be something like that where depending on the season you get there are certain types and colors you're forced to use, but there are types as well as move sets that are completely banned from your party

2. I have a list of all the traditional challenges (I will be a nice person and there will be no Nuzelocke) all the different types that could be used for monotype, duotypes again, trio species, maybe scramble challenge, and a few others and randomly a challenge will be assigned for you

Yeah capturing Rayquaza and Latias Latios would be amazing, I just pray none of you get tempted to enter a certain code into that nice little hack section in your gba emulator

I have a hard copy of ruby (3 of them, to be exact. Oh, and 2 sapphires, and 3 emeralds)

Please Dont Ask why i have so many...lets just say gen 3 is my fav gen :3

Anyway....

Uh I dont have any way to take pics other than uh point to webcam and shoot, i dont know what the quality of that would look like :3

I like the season challenge thing i say we should do that :o

SO wait the next challenge is gonna be the gen 3 games? (Yesssssshhhhhhhhh)

Well now that the full fledged round is starting soon (the first non-beta one uh yeah) i think a ton of people will join, so its gonna be really hard to keep up with everything, but im sure we can think of something :)

But now that theres gonna be say at least 10 people, IM NOT GOING TO BE SPECIAL ANY MORE :(

Anyway, i say season challenge, Mostly because i haven't done one yet

If there's a bunch of people, could we maybe somehow make it a team challenge? And like you have a point total for your entire team, so if you want to get a really expensive item, then the rest of your team can't get as much. Then, the challenge would be over when like everyone on your team finishes. Could that work?

That way, if there are quests like Laure suggested, some of the people could like beat the challenge, but still go out and do the quests to get points for their team.

So many things to reply to!

The team challenge is a good idea for later episodes (more than 2 teams) well it depends on how many join.

Laure, the next thread will require a lot of work to keep up to date so I will try to be the second poster and update the challengers points, location, pokemon, types etc for you :) because im kind...

I wish the challenge was slightly longer so maybe battle frontier? What about wifi battles at the end?

Anyway, people having different challenges isn't fair but I would love Nuzlocke (its my favourite) but maybe where other people choose your Pokemon would work - The Ones That Got Away or Scramble (even the Egg Supreme)?

I almost joined the seasons challenge so that gets a yeas from me!

Monoletter gets a shout from me or what about just using Team Rocket Pokemon or Pokemon under a certain BST? SO many choices...

PS. I hope my holiday doesn't get in the way on the 17th :(

How about the Youtube Challenge that aragonbird made on his Black/White hack (PureWhite/ Pitch Black its in the Sideshow Showcase)?? Most points wins and extra points for speed :)

I don't know about groups I want to be different than battle royale because this challenge is you on your own, even though it sounds like a good idea for the future, then you could designate people to do things like someone needs to work to end the game by catching the legendary pokemon, someone work on the pokedex to get points, someone work on quests and collecting alchemy items, than whatever team would have the most points when the game ends would win.

Anyway another idea just dawned on me, a way that would force you to take advantage of your half an hour so maybe you could do a quest and rack up points.

Okay for this we will use R/B/Y for example

This is what the beginning of the game would like like

DAY 1 OF CHALLENGE
Notes: Where I put rule changes etc.
Dungeon Master Events:
Today's daily effect is Inflation, all prices of items in the store have increased by 20%
Today's Daily lottery winner is JD the Bud of 20 points
Dungeon Master hands bomb to Jespoke

Level 1: Road to Virdian City
All players have beaten the level, and must shut off their game once they arrive in Pewter City

Player Events:
Laure finished Level 1 with 20 points
Hackii saves on level 1 with 25 points

Okay basically what I mean by levels, is that even though you are free to use your half hour however you want, it ends once you get past a certain finish line, in this case it would be Pewter city, and when I put up the score board you can keep track of how far your opponents are.

For Laure in this example I got to Pewter City so I finished my game
For Hackii he was working on his Pokedex before he got to Pewter City, so he is still on level 1, then the next day of the tournament, no one is allowed to go behind level 2 and so on

I think if you get forced to start a new game though you'll be allowed to accomplish 3 levels a day

What do you think?

I think the season challenge would work best with the Sudden Change item, since some types overlap, if we wanted to not do monotypes. Personally I think the dual type works well. We can always try a season challenge later if we want to and do Emerald or something.

Hacki, using the Battle Tower/Wifi is not a good idea. The challenge is long enough. I was able to beat the Elite Four with such an underleveled team because of Horn Drill(with X Speeds/Accuracys) and Psychic. The rest of the games require a lot more training to face the Elite Four since the AI is a lot smarter as well.

I'm not sure how I feel about the Level idea. It has merit, but the whole point of the points system (especially if we have quests) is to either get points by gathering items/pokedex or speed through particular sections. Maybe we could emphasize this more by assigning lower point values to mundane activities (like rare candies and stuff) and more points to beating all the trainers in an area (Victory Road, Aqua/Magma Hideout, etc.).

For example, an optional quest for R/S could be getting a DeepSeaScale, which requires getting the Scanner in the Abandoned Ship. Something like that would work well, as it takes some time and is out of the way, but the points earned would be good. It's also easy to do, unlike catching a Legendary Bird or something.

I like the idea of capturing both Lati@s and Rayquaza as well, especially since Rayquaza is so strong, so using Ultra Balls might get your team killed :D, and Lati@s is roaming, so you have to find it multiple times to catch it with an Ultra Ball. Who do you use the Master Ball on, especially if you only have one chance to get Rayquaza (no resettng and trying again) so if you fail to catch it, you have to restart your game.

Also, I think there should be more Protection Charms available to buy, especially if we have a lot of competitors.

But still I go back to my same issue since the idea of having several winners and the one with the most points is the true winner concept keeps getting shot down. If you can claim the whole tournament by simply accomplishing what you need to get done first then nothing is really stopping you from just speeding through.

Unless we make the protection charm a buyable item, just a very expensive item that last for 3 days, and you'll want to do quests and such just so you can afford to protect yourself. Maybe it will work. Unlike last time more than one person can buy it, because you won't always have the money since wrist watches are no longer buyable.

Actually yeah I feel comfortable, the only reason you guys were racking up the points you were racking up in the beta was because you were buying watches everyday, if you are stuck to only 30 minutes a day the chances of being victim to items and having a need for points is greater, that and I suck at all these Pokemon games, but I do believe R/S are longer.

Oh also how about you get more points depending on the rarity of the Pokemon you capture? 2 for common, 3 for uncommon, etc.

I think we might do seasons because I was looking at the thread and I think it will make things very interesting.

This one would be good because I like the green and red thing, it makes strategy a lot more interesting for if someone uses a dark pokeball on your red pokemon, they've pretty much used it on your green since it can't be used without red.

In some of these I created expert mode and if we utilize these challenges maybe it will be like Guitar Hero, there can be an item you can force on your opponent that make them use expert mode, which would require for them to box some of their team and get all new Pokemon

yes I think seasons would be a really fun the new forum will also have an faq section where I would put this sort of thing in, as well as all the questions asked during the beta test

@ Hacki I'm DM so I have to keep control of the event pages, but maybe after I make the thread you can quickly post right after to reserve the second post, we make that post the scoreboard and you can read off my event log to keep editing it and updating it.

This means I'd have to Twitter stalk Sydian when his not at work, and when you're online force him to quickly publish the challenge so you could post there D: idk

Keep the levels for some future special-round, but for now, it seems like a too big of a change.

If we do ad multiple protection charms, then i will make the:

Unprotected Focus Bomb!: Removes all protection charms from play, and from the shop for 3 days

Falcon Focus Powwwwwnch!!!

Just taking them off the field is good enough, they won't be cheap in the shop so I doubt anybody will be buying them, but then again it doesn't matter too much there are so many bombs that if the odds of that one going off happened w/e no charms havoc can insue...

but then again maybe that could be an alchemy item or quest gift item I like the bombs having affect on the invidual rather than the group, because like I said the bombs are basically hot potatoes and the fact that it will effect you gives you reason to think about who you are going to toss it to

You can use all the bomb effects for the alchemy too, with the bombs they are so rare that we probably wont see all of them used until 4.-5. round :P Ive made a small statistic for the new bomb list below (Be sure to read the bottom 4 bombs: they are new creations by me :P) :

There are 20 bombs. 6/20 of the effects are positive, 8/20 are negative, 4/20 affect the entire game, 1/20 Is bad when it explodes, but can have positive aftereffects, and the last 1/20 is just for the lolz :P

Note: I've written it so that we can make up more kinds of charms, like some made with alchemy. (I think of Golden Sun every time we mention that word :I)

Okay I will most likely put the forum up tonight, anymore, questions, suggestions, or complaints? or forever hold your peace

What challenge are we doing? I think we should stick with dual type...

Seasons ^_^ I really only did dual type cause there isn't many choices in R/B/Y and this one gives you more choices, but at the same time limits, that and like you said earlier transitioning when sudden change is used won't be too harmful

AND YOU CANNNNNNOOOOTTT FIGHT ME CAUSE I'M MAKING THE THREAD NOWWWWWWW
