She was joking though, despite them being in bad taste. How would you feel if someone just decided to block and ignore you just because you got off on the wrong foot?
Sorry, I can't say I would say the same thing. Whenever someone does something akin to that I just stop treating them seriously.

That's quite possibly one of the worst sayings I've ever heard, I'm sorry.

I know it usually isn't, but it was still a joke that you took too seriously nonetheless.
 
I don't agree with that saying, but I do agree that saying mean things "as a joke" just for the sake of saying something is incredibly stupid.

Maybe if that person is well-known and you can tell when they are joking and when they aren't, it may work. But someone you don't know? "Hey person I barely know, you are stupid!" "What?" "Haha! It's a joke!" How about no.

Jokes don't really work when you joke with someone who knows nothing about you and vise versa.

Not everyone's senstivity levels are the same.

It's like going up to a random person and saying they look like a total retard, you know you're joking obviously, but I don't think the random person would feel like it's a joke.

Basically it's the same as being rude.
 
Let's say: you go around and punch somebody you just met. That person says "Hey what's up?" and you say "Hey, it's a joke!". The following days, you keep slapping that person every time you have a chance. Then someone tells that person they shouldn't stay away from you because you were just joking.
