IMO, that quote should not be attributed solely to America - if all embittered countries would just agree on stuff and stop fighting (and stop producing nuclear weapons to uphold "mutually assured destruction"), we could invest efforts toward cool stuff like Vocaloids instead of trying to think of the next way to murder our fellow human. How horrible. :(

Vocaloids were created by a private corporation over in Japan, not its government. Same with that 3D projection software used in that video. There's just not that same market here in the US at the moment, and, as such, companies that sell products here focus on other areas, such as 3D television and "intelligent" warehouse robots.

And don't knock military research. It's gotten us many things we use on a daily basis, including portions of the internet and electronic computers. It's not just about finding the next weapon for murdering. Some are geared toward the survival of soldiers, which benefit us civilians in many ways.

That vocaloid concert was using pretty cool technology, but the vocaloids are meh.

Yeah...apologies; I didn't mean to knock all military research, as I've heard that there are stationed soldiers around Earth who are engaged in things that aren't combat-related (i.e, civilian rescue from natural-disaster emergencies and such). >.<

I just dislike the "warfare/combat research"-geared part of the world's various militaries, as we could be investing that energy and effort into other productive (and more sensible) scientific areas... I mean, exactly what is the point of 5,113 warheads (active+inactive; give or take) if they're just sitting who-knows-where being dormant..?
Apparently, at least a majority of them are slated to be dismantled, so that's a start towards eradicating such violent instruments. Alternatively, we could just re-purpose them and utilize them for non-military activities instead. >_>
