But why do you need to be in a separate school to prepare for high school? o_O I was plenty prepared just from elementary school. I just don't get iiiit. Seems like a waste of space to me, I dunno.
 
My school here in the UK goes by the Primary and Secondary system. Children that where born in 1995+ have to stay in school until they're eighteen now. The government made a wise decision there.
 
They closed the middle school in my county, so they've split what used to be middle school between the elementary and high schools. I think they go to elementary through 7th grade and then high school at 8th...can't exactly remember.
 
It seems somewhat trivial to have 3 or 4 schools, it just seems a little pointless and maybe even daunting for the student knowing he/she has to move into bigger schools. I like the way it is in Ireland where you spend 14 years of your school life between two schools. We just have Junior and senior infants then, 1st to 6th class in Primary school then we have 1st to 6th year in Secondary school. We have two major state exams, one in 3rd year in secondary called the Junior certificate then we have the Leaving certificate examination when we graduate.

I prefer the Great Britain system because it doesn't actually confuse me.
 
Here, primary roughly equals elementary, intermediate roughly equals middle school, and high school roughly equals, well, high school.

Intermediate is, according to many sources, supposed to prepare one for high school. Really, though, my intermediate at least was absolutely hopeless for that. I mean, sure, it got me to come out of my shell a little bit, but it did nothing to prepare me for just how 'different' high school is. I mean, it took me till the end of my first year of high school to understand how the NCEA system works, and I still struggle a bit. (You have to collect certain numbers of credits at certain levels at certain grades to pass in a certain way, including a certain number of credits in certain subjects. @_@)

I adapted fairly quickly, but that was through my own observation. And no, DG, I don't think it's wrong to not start the year at the beginning. Just odd. Stupid planetary tilt.

Where I live it is:

Kindergarden
1-5 Elementary
6-8 Middle
9-12 High

Note to self: Do not text in a hospital because when I get a text message my monitor goes all Kyoshi-Crayon on me.

Where I live in England, we have reception which is ages 4-5, then years 1-6 in primary school are 5-10, then years 7-11 (11-15) in secondary school. College/ Sixth Form is years 12 and 13 (age 16-18). o:
 
We had a grade 13 in the Canadian province of Ontario. They put an end to it in 2004, when grade 12 and grade 13 students graduated from high school. XD

Though yeah, I'm glad I never had to deal with 'middle school.' I'm always lost when non-Ontarians talk about it. lol
 
Teh American School System is the easiest there is... IMO that is. But the Education Sucks,
 
I never knew there was a grade 13.
