I remember watching Ned's declassified school survival guide, and the episode about bullying. I was somewhat aware of what they did in American schools but I think it could work. That what they sort of did, was an interventionist type of thing, where they would bring both parties in a room and discuss it.

Not only is this super awkward and humiliating for the bully, but it also gets the bully a chance to redeem themselves. As for the victim, they will probably think that this too is humiliating but have to be told or taught it is the best thing to do.

That Columbine shooting is no different... If you make people snap, don't expect fairys and magic...

The whole "unwritten code" of school conduct, is held in by peer pressure...

That never happens. You can't watch a television show about school and think it's the same thing.
No...
When bullying happens at school it can go a few ways...

The kid gets upset and gets the bully in trouble
The Bully starts to hurt the kid, bully gets in trouble
The bully hurts the kid, no-one says anything, Bad time
The Bully wins, kid an-heroes, bad time

There is no intervention.
There is no calm resolute.

Yes it is their place.
The teachers job is to maintain a safe and secure learning environment. Teachers DO have the right to tell students to stop certain actions, what the teacher says, goes, so long as the teacher doesn't try to tell the students to do something illegal.
As a matter of fact, teachers can lose their JOB by not stopping a student from bullying.

My elementary school staff were a bunch of asshats and when I told them I was being bullied they said "boys will be boys." :\

Eventually I got my parents in on it. They said the same thing to them. *triplefacepalm*

By then I was only going to be in elementary school for a couple more weeks, though, so I just toughed it out, under the condition that I could leave and be home schooled at any time. It wasn't too bad for my remaining time, luckily.

I went to a public school after that and it was somehow better. I got bullied one day in seventh grade, so I told one of my teachers, and they were like "yeah if they keep doing that you can file a lawsuit." I was like "holy what wait what!?" Then they talked to the kids, and I didn't have any problems afterward.

I've been bullied because the people who bullied me considered me a "retard" (and I didn't even find out I had ADHD 'til the 4th grade).

And I can't really say I've been cyber-bullied, namely because I've been on sites like these where people would get perma-banned for such XD

I remember the early days of ADD and ADHD, on how people speculated on everything it was not...

In terms of cyber bullying, I'm glad to have been slightly older when that became prominent, so that never affected me, as early on, I realized that the internet is pretty faceless, so that I should never take anything to heart (in terms of getting flustered and such).

With technology there always seems to be a new form of exploitation, I speak of sexting... And how teens that get found with that, either get charged as a pedophile or if not found, sometimes even blackmailed into distributing the photos by the original recipient.

Yeah well that's now a criminal offence isn't it?
However, there's hardly a way that you can send it to the police or whatnot, I dunno how people do it =/
Magic

In Vietnam, it was a bully or get bullied type of situation. The martial spirit still exists in some rural parts of the country, and stopping physical violence (unless it gets bloody) doesn't appear to be high on the teachers' priority. Discipline and saving face was deemed more important. :/ In the States it was less of a physical thing and the teasing were mostly of ethnic nature. Luckily, things got better came High School and now I live without a care in the world.

I was a part of this once in 5th grade, I believe. The other kid afterwards just plain stopped interacting with me, which was a relief. (b'v')b I wrote a paper on this situation for 9th grade, and the story (mainly its awkwardness) just made the entire class laugh.

In a way it is kind of interesting as to know why they would laugh... But I'd still say that the main reason, is just insecurity... They would feel the same way (no one really wants to see a victim suffer), but they'd rather make someone else stay as the victim to their scapegoat issue. Their laughing almost make it seem like school shootings are justifiable. I know they're not, as a person has the choice to get help, but what if all else fails? And the bullys don't relent? You can bet for sure no one will be laughing after an incident such as that, even if everyone survived...

To be honest, people don't bully in my school. At least not in the middle school really. I mean, there a few high school girls who have beef with a middle schoolers, but it is really petty little stuff. My school has a zero tolerance towards bullying, so if it is reported that you do, and their is sufficient evidence that you have done it, then they will kick you to the curb.

Bullying occurs alot at my school, and the teachers are completely unaware of it.

And Feign, no just some random school kids from another school

:S I think in my schools there was small skirmishes but nothing persistent or wholly serious...

I've been in 3 fights though X_x
I guess that in my school there is a minimal amount of bullying, but nothing to extreme. Just a name here or there. It is a lot better than it has been in the past years. But some people have just snapped and fought. I swear, this sweet, perfectly innocent kid, who would never do anything, decked a basket ball player in the face. Then, he slammed him up against the locker.

I might have been a little too boastful when saying that my school was relatively bully free. :/ But, really, the only things that I can compare my school too are the extremes seen all over the news.
