The DCC is about trading card games. This must be some elaborate trap to lure me into making a post about Yu-Gi-Oh and thus, igniting Yoshikorage.

NICE TRY GUYS BUT YOU CAN'T FOOL ME! IN FACT! I BET THIS ENTIRE SET UP HAS BEEN ORCHESTRATED BY FOREVER TO GET HER REVENGE AGAINST ME!!! details can be found in my signature

any cxomments on thius? i mena its gotta be true right

When people don't reply to things, it's because there's already a conversation going and they don't want to abruptly switch to another one, especially one we very recently had such as power rangers. If you really want to only talk that then try making a fan club in Other Clubs for it, or a thread in Culture & Media about the series. Try to stick with the topic at hand in the DCC unless it's dying.

As soon as I saw your font I expected a wall of text. But you should tell us your YGO history because I'm curious.

Naive question coming up: what is the difference in terms of gameplay mechanics between Pokemon TCG and Yu-Gi-Oh TCG? I was a fan of neither when they were 'popular' among my circle of friends, and all I know about Yu-Gi-Oh is watching the anime a bit all those years ago. How similar/different are they?

I myself used to be a collector of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards. However, I ended up giving most, if not all, of my Yu-Gi-Oh cards to my neighbor for Pokemon Cards. Now that I look back I kind of wished I kept the, but I'm cool with the Pokemon Cards that he had given me during the trade. I remember the Christmas in which all I got was Yu-Gi-Oh cards. ahhh, the good ol' days.

They're... pretty different? I remember how to play the Pokemon TCG well because I played it recently, but I only vaguely remember how to play YGO. Maybe I should pick up the GBA game that I have and play some of it sometime, haha.

I collect Pokemon cards. I have over 500 to date, my most recent Pokemon card pack was in a tin with Samurott on it. I got a Zekrom card in that deck! :3 That's the only rare card I got, though. =\

Anyone listen to OSTs? (Original Sound Tracks.)

Yeah I agree it might be interesting to hear! Go onnn tell and don't use too many irl associations references etc

I shall proceed with EXTREME caution then. If I get banned for this post, I just want to say that I've enjoyed my time here at Pokecommunity. I've had lots of good times and laughs with you guys and I wish you all the best for your futures.

My history with trading card games is quite lengthy. It begins when I am around ten years old and Pokemon has just caught on at my primary school. Lots of talk about the anime and people would also bring their Pokemon cards into school for trading and battling. I would usually just observe other people doing their things with the Pokemon cards as I had only just begun watching the anime and had no clue what the cards were about. Eventually I decided to get into it and I initially purchased a single booster pack. I distinctly recall pulling both a Magnemite and a holofoil Magneton which made me happy as I had the set completed. Unfortunately the following day at school, when I took my cards with me and this guy offered his pidgeotto for my Magneton. I gladly accepted the trade but I blatantly got ripped off as the Magneton was a rare and the Pidgeotto was uncommon. I learnt my mistake and it's good to make that error when you're inexperienced with trading cards, as I have never forgotten it and it's a memory which has made me become a pretty effective trader over the years. A week or two later, I got the first Pokemon structure deck and started actually learning how to play the TCG with my brother. By this time however, Pokemon had died down at school, people stopped bringing in their cards and the school actually banned the cards at school because of an incident at another school where some kid stabbed another kid for some Pokemon cards. I was saddened that I would not be able to battle anyone at school with my Pokemon cards but still decided to collect them anyway.

I collected the cards up to the set which released the Gym Leaders Pokemon. So I believe I collected the Pokemon cards for around three years until an accident occurred. It had been decided that my family was going to move to England and while we were at the airport, the little suitcase which held all of the Pokemon cards burst open and they all tumbled to the floor. There was a cleaner nearby who brushed some of the cards into his bin, the douchebag. I did manage to retrieve the majority of the cards at least but my parents were stressed out and they just flat out told me to give the cards to my cousin as they didn't want to waste any more time re-packing the cards. I obeyed unquestioningly as my dad was in a pretty bad mood and at those times, I feared him.

So that ends my Pokemon career. Or so I thought. We arrived in the UK and one day (a month I think after moving) my dad randomly gave a call after work asking what Pokemon decks me and my brother wanted. It was the most random thing ever as my dad would never do something like that. But any way I ended up getting the Eeveelution structure deck and my brother got the corresponding Xatu deck. I think they were from the time that the EX Pokemon was initially released. I played with the cards for a fair while with my brother again but I think the time gap did something to us. We eventually got bored of the game and so we stopped playing. Having lost all our previous cards was pretty demotivating too in a sense. So fast forward a year or so later and a friend of mine who would go on to become my very best friend introduced me to the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game. Intrigued about it, I started watching the Yu-Gi-Oh anime. It was really good and so me and my bro decided to try out the YGO TCG. I got the Kaiba evolution deck and my bro got the Yugi evolution one. Very quickly we both became immersed with the game. I found a few friends at the secondary school I went to who also played YGO so unlike in primary school; I had plenty of opportunities to play with other people which helped solidify my interest in the game.

It wasn't until I reached the age of eighteen that I actually started attending a local card shop for tournaments and stuff. I was at university and there was a local card shop fairly close by, unlike back at home. It was during my university years that I really started to become a competitive YGO player. I frequently attended local events and my skills developed a lot quicker. There was a player base that I was able to get good trades from as I had become a pretty good trader over the years. I also began attending some big tournaments in the UK such as the "UKay Pro" which is basically a tournament for the English and Irish mainly. A couple of players from European countries would drop by too. As far as tournament success goes, I managed to sweep through a regional tournament going 6-1 in the swiss rounds and winning the finals, which qualified me for the 2010 UK nationals, which I got destroyed in lol. I also just missed out on qualifying for the 2011 Euros cause I lost on the bubble which sucked. I've also attended two Yugioh Championship Tournaments in my time – one in Germany and one in the UK. Did mediocre in both of them though.

Admittedly in the past two years or so, I have grown to dislike Konami's marketing strategies. They have this tendency to print really rare, good and therefore expensive cards which most tournament worthy decks will need. Around a year or something later, re-print the card so it's cheap to get and then end up repeating the cycle. I've gotten sick of it to be honest and also at times the meta game for YGO has been pretty terrible for one reason or another. Usually it's because of some BS deck that is mega popular.

So in the past two years or something I slowly got myself back into the Pokemon TCG! Basically around two years ago, my brother started collecting the cards again in response to the deterioration of YGO and my best friend also had a bunch of them, therefore I expectedly got swayed back into it. We played casually between ourselves until a few weeks ago where I attended my very first Pokemon Cities tournament (went 3-2 which is alright for my first time). Due to my lack of experience in Pokemon, I pretty much went with a really popular meta deck known as Thunderdome. In YGO, due to my far broader knowledge, I had the capability to be far more innovative and still perform decently.

As things stand right now, I don't think I'll quit YGO. There was definitely a time where I thought I would but once you get into YGO, I think you're pretty much stuck with it lol. There's a YGO tournament coming up in a few weeks' time and there's a Chaos Dragon deck being released soon too. Both of these factors have re-awakened my YGO passion for now. I figure that when I get bored of YGO, I'll play the Pokemon TCG for a while and circulate between the two TCGs like that.

Well you asked for my history and you got it. I'll finish off with an image displaying my main Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh TCG decks and binders. A fair warning that the image is quite large.

Spoiler:

The main difference between the two that immediately springs to mind is that YGO has trap cards which can be used during the opponent's turn. Whereas in Pokemon only under very rare circumstances can the opposing player interfere with the turn player's turn. In Pokemon, you can place your Pokemon on the bench freely, whereas in YGO there is a limit of only one normal summon per turn (though you can special summon as often as you want, so it's not that different I guess). Winning conditions are different between the two games as well. You will lose in Pokemon if you can't put an active Pokemon out but in YGO, you are free to have no monsters on the field at any given time.

A competitive difference between the two is that in Pokemon, drawing a large amount of cards in a single turn is fairly standard but in YGO, draw power is far more advantageous. This is because YGO has a ban list that limits the amount of copies of certain cards but this isn't the case in Pokemon. Often drawing into those power house cards in YGO gives the player a decisive advantage, which makes draw power in YGO so powerful.

Haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh ever but it seems to be nice card game. Duel Masters was pretty fun also. Destroying opponents shields.

BTW, I saw something weird stuff few hours ago. I checked some random new user's profile and it said he's modifying user groups. That was pretty weird. You can't modify user groups if you aren't admin so I think vB was just trolling me. But weird still.

Is that was all that "heart of the cards" stuff is about?

People in the competitive atmosphere do use that phrase as a joke when a player top decks a really powerful card which often leads to a big come back of some nature.

In the anime though, the phrase was essentially about the concept of if you believe in your deck (and by extension yourself) then your deck will give you what you want when you need it lol.

If only that were true.

But then what about physics and the laws of nature?!
