Sports The Football Discussion Thread!

Imagine having a really shitty day at work, finally getting home ready for some football, then seeing that the only early kickoff in the top two divisions is Bolton vs fucking Hull. As grim as living in Bolton or Hull.

I hear that Boro got buggered over yesterday. Not good timing.

Please, God let us beat Norwich today. Arsenal is sucking right now, and a win against Norwich would kinda fix it.

3x0 please.
4x0 if they feel inspired. Or they can just draw a boring 1x1.

Not great, but at least your lot are on the tv later (or is that a bad thing I wonder).

Lets just not even talk about yesterday shall we. All that needs to be said is the linesman is blind and should never officiate again.

As a United sympathiser and someone who would much rather see Newcastle/Sunderland go down than Norwich, I'll be rooting against you today. That said I don't really like Arsenal anyway so I would probably want Norwich to win regardless.

And after those results it looks like Norwich will be needing that win.

Out of the whole BPL/FL Championship subject, Hummels is now being utterly hated, the poor guy.

I mean, i would dislike it too if he went to Bayern, i mean, Bayern already grabbed way too much from Dortmund. Their best striker, a great midfielder, and now their best centerback. He wants to go to Bayern, but i don't think he'd be used THAT much, i mean we already have Boateng, Martinez, Benatia and Tasci. I want Hummels to just stay in Dortmund.

Speaking of Dortmund, 5x1 against Wolfsburg, whoop whoop!

Someone went through on reddit picking it out which top teams buy players from their rivals and Bayern seemed to crop up the most often as the team who would buy mainly from their title opposition over the last twenty years. It's a shame because the clubs around them usually don't have the reputation to replace them properly. I suppose it's better than having situations like the NBA were the league can override a trade though (as rare as that may be). In the end it just means the Bundesliga will almost always be boring.

Atletico fan here! Hoping Betis can hold Barca today, so far so good!

EDIT: Urgh, red card for Betis... :(

Unpopular opinion, I support Sporting de Gijon. I'm not from Gijon, much less Spain... I just like them hahaha. I'm really hoping Barca loses today. That previous match against Betis was bs. Other than them, I like Real Madrid, though.

Trust me, being an Atletico fan in the centre of Catalunya isn't exactly doing me any favours! ;) My previous affinity for Real is why I support Atletico, my school promised me a trip to a match at the Bernabeu if I went on the school trip when I was younger...they were unable to secure tickets so we went to see Atletico instead. XD

Urgh, they're 1-0 up now, can't stand hearing all the obnoxious comments that my students will be throwing my way if they win this.

That's not bad for a school trip. We went to Norwich reserves vs Southend reserves for one of ours.

Am showing my age a little there, I miss reserve team football.

Yer it wasn't too bad, I remember the older years teasing us as every year before us went to see Real instead. xD

How was it? I'd be curious to see a reserves game.

Reserve team football was loads of fun. Games weren't always the best but it was cheap and a brilliant way for youngsters to see games. The atmospheres were relaxed and you'd get to see managers playing around and trying lots of different tactical things out. You never knew what you were going to get in games, one day you'd be playing some kids from Southend and the next game you could be seeing Ryan Giggs getting some match fitness. Another thing I noticed was the referees were allowed to have something resembling a sense of humour, I remember one pretending to send himself off after accidentally tripping one of the players.

The development leagues have replaced it in some regards but yeah, reserves were dope.

My favourite Spanish team at the moment is probably Athletic Bilbao. I had a very small soft spot for them from a successful FM save which has been amplified this year by living with a Basque flatmate. My usual favourite Spanish team is Real Madrid for 100% Ronaldo related reasons.

That sounds fun for reserve football, I remember my only similar experience watching Boro U18s a few years ago was very boring but I suppose it gave me an opportunity to just chat with my friends for a good couple of hours.

Do you remember the first games you ever attended? My first was this reasonably boring England U21 game at the Riverside against the highly illustrious opponents of Azerbaijan U21s (noted for their credible away attendance of 9).(Link) That was eventually followed up with a very exciting first Boro game against Bolton with lots of goals and a last minute winner. (Link)

England (4-4-2): Carson (Liverpool); Rosenior (Fulham), Taylor (Newcastle), Davenport (Tottenham), Whittingham (Aston Villa); Milner (Newcastle), Welsh (Liverpool), Huddlestone (Derby County), Richardson (Manchester United; Routledge , Crystal Palace, 56); Ashton (Norwich; Stead , Blackburn, 67), Bent (Ipswich; Ambrose , Newcastle, 81). Subs not used: Ridgewell (Aston Villa), Camp
(Derby), Marney (Tottenham), Moore (Aston Villa).

One player out of the lot has became an England regular so to some extent that U21 game was a huge waste of time.

Is it Leicester's day today?
