so, most of us have agreed on an october date for the get together to coincide with pc's 20th birthday. my main concern is that there has to be a motivated team to get this done. it has been a consistent issue in previous get togethers that people cannot follow through the whole way and oftentimes the work would fall on one or two people which isn't fair. so to avoid this, please only volunteer to be gt management if you're sure you can dedicate a bulk of your time towards planning. it is creatively intensive and time-consuming with what all the finer details that have to be planned out to ensure things go right.
for those of you who aren't familiar/are new to gt management, the responsibilities are more or less self-explanatory: the gt managers are in charge of the direction the gt goes as far as what the themes will be, what form that will take, things like that. while all staff can contribute to ideas here, the gt managers ultimately make the decision on what ideas they do/don't adopt. they also oversee the get together as a whole. this means that as soon as the gt starts, they are more or less its "moderators". event organizers are under their purview and they can make decisions as far as whether to keep EOs on or remove them depending on the circumstances (like if they fall inactive or some other circumstance that may warrant it). basically, just about everything that has to do with the get-together is the responsibility of gt management. so it's especially important that the team remain communicative, self-driven and active.
imo, if any gt manager has to take a leave of absence, they should let the group know so everyone is aware of it ahead of time or as it happens so it wouldn't impact progress too much. gt managers are also to let the group know if they are to resign from the position. because of the time-consuming nature of planning every detail for the get-together, it may be difficult to find a "replacement" should a resignation occur, so in an ideal scenario everyone should have an open schedule as possible so things don't get too strained. considering the get-together is five months or so away, we understand if life happens because who knows what'll happen between now and october, but that's precisely why the extra two months serve as sort of a cushion in the event that occurs.
finally, in the scenario where things do get finished early (the planning is done, wrapped up etc), we can give everything a once-over just to be sure nothing is falling through the cracks before we open up EO sign-ups (when that comes around). it's better to be finished way early than cram it at the last minute so we can look at things with a less stressed mindset.
this all may sound scary, but event management work is very rewarding when everything is done right and we see everyone having fun with the events, theming etc. seeing the general population genuinely appreciating the efforts put into the organization really makes it all worth it. c:
